Unsafe Safety Feature (and other safety) in 2024 Subaru Ascent Premium Trim
With so many safety features, it's almost like we are forgetting how to drive. Let me show you at least one safety feature which I believe is VERY unsafe.

After about 1.5 months of ownership, I have a much better understanding of this car and stuff which drives me nuts. Here is my list. Lincoln Town Car Guy Finds Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor Dodge Charger and Others
I won a 2014 Police Interceptor Utility with 115k miles for $3,800. Funny enough, I think it has more features (give or take), than this newer Explorer. For example, the auto-dimming mirror was standard on every Explorer, including the Interceptor Utility. Not anymore. But tbh, you don't really need it in a cop car with tinted windows.
They came with rpm meter ?
You mean tachometer?

1985-1989, 1995-1997 and 2003-2011 were the most beautiful models. However all Lincoln Town Car generations remain recognized as symbols of perfection worldwide.
Nice.
Where did you buy the seat belt part from?
I think it was ebay
@@VitaliyKofman Thanks!
I like my 4th Gen 2004 Signature. Drives and rides like a dream. I will drive nothing but Lincoln Town Cars from now on.
My Dad bought his 2014 brand new, right as the 2015 model came in the lot. He would’ve gotten a smoking deal on the 2015 model… but he chose to get the 2014 model, and I’m so glad he did. Simply because of the V8 and the classier design
Thanks for the comment!
We use to drive rear wheel drive cars all the time in the 40s and on. It was only until the 80s that people started to drive a lot of front wheel drive cars.
Have you been able to find replacement rear quarter panels ?
No, but they are out there. The car was sold about a year ago with that rust. Please see other (newer) videos.
Solution , brand new headlights 🥱
I own an 05. The big trade off with the 3rd gen is you get the emblems on the tail lights but no hood ornament. Plus I dont think the front end of the 3rd gen has aged especially well.
3rd gen with the 4th gen front end swap (if possible) would be sweet. I absolutely hate that goofy grille the 3rd gen has. It looks like they pried it off the front of an MGA and glued it on a panther.
i favor a comparatively spartan town car over an opulent rolls.
Well said!
How are you supposed to mess with the display safely while driving? Even more unsafe is digging through menus while driving to get at X-Mode during bad weather.
Most of the screen features get deactivated while driving so you are left with just the very basics to pick from.
It seems to me that you are overwhelmed with all of the different options and features. I urge you to turn your Ascent in on another Subaru (or other brand) that has just the options and features you would prefer. Driving is serious, but this car is giving you headache. I have a 2022 Subaru Ascent Limited which has its quirks. We are going to purchase a 2025 Subaru Forester Wilderness. We chose the Wilderness because it has the turbo charged engine. The standard Forester has a four-cylinder non-turbo engine which is gutless. Good luck.
I'm happy with the car overall, so it's not like I get anxiety when I drive it. Just learning how all this crap works and what to trust and what not to trust. Steering assist definitely is in the DON'T TRUST category. Other stuff is nice to have but not neccesary.
Haha the раб joke :) The only modern "safety" feature that I'm missing in my cars in adaptive cruise control. Like you said, you can live without BSM, and I wouldn't trust auto steering for sure. Your parking sensors seem to be very sensitive, that car was pretty far away based on the rear camera image (barely entered the green zone).
I love that smart cruise! The back up sensors are tied into that RAB system and the backup assist feature so probably tuned to be extra sensitive.
I'm on three months now with my 2020 Fusion Energi Hybrid. While not as long of ownership as you, mine has 94K kms (about 55K mi) and honestly it's been nice just being able to hop in and go without worrying about anything and a very cheap gas bill. My gas bill has gone from $275 to $350 a month to... $60 to $80 a month and there's far more sound deadening vs the vic and we will need brakes far less with regen braking. I need to get winter tires here soon. Honestly have 0 regrets buying it. Do I miss the sound of the V8 and the sofa seats? Sure do, but honestly no rust, no mechanical worry really and far cheaper to operate and own, it's 100% the smart move and would do it again. Even so, the seats in the fusion are pretty good too. It's a worthy vic replacement imo. Even for what features there are, there's buttons for and the screen is very simple and easy to use.
I feel the same way. Big boats are great, but just driving without issues even better!
The Fusion looks like it’s in a good shape. Only the wheels look like they have never been washed. Cheap tires are ok but you have to be careful. They either wear super fast or they last forever but the rubber gets dry and hard. Wet driving and braking performance is usually where they aren’t as good. 40PSI is too much pressure I think. Maybe check oh that. Anyways safe travels!
I agree with you, cars have gone waay overboard with the tech and screens and electronics in the recent years. Like you said, 2020 might be the last good year, where cars already had all the modern tech, but the safety features haven't become too intrusive, with constant beeping, etc. And if you plan on keeping the Fusion for a while, I'd advise against 10+ months oil change intervals. :) It's 5k miles or 6 months, whichever comes first.

That’s what my wife call my the shit box boat
How can you drive with the seats so upright? 😉 I agree on the rubber mats. I have them as well.
I was vacuuming so probably forgot to put them back :)
With such a huge and high-tech screen being available in the car, one might think PIN could be programmed through it...
You would think, but it's not - only through that button on the back...
I drive a 1999 Lincoln Towncar Signature Series. I have 192 on the dash. Best car ive ever driven.
Extra switch is good. Its for when you put some aux equipment in the car and can have a nice integrated switch to toggle it on and off.
I agree on the black on black plastic interior. I also don’t know why they call the trim like Premium. Another thing I don’t like is when you can have no fog lights but see a plastic cap looking round thing where they are supposed to be. Also don’t like the black piano glossy paint. As for the screen with Tesla you can reboot the computer by holding the steering wheel buttons. That’s a useful feature every car with a large screen should have.
Motor cant be on. Doesn't work

This was your chance to buy a Ford, Lincoln, Buick, GMC or Cadillac SUV. You always seemed to love these brands. Anyways nice car.
My wife drives this 99% of the time so had to get what she likes. Others considered were Grand Highlander and Honda Pilot. Ascent won :)
@@VitaliyKofman I like the Ascent most out of these.
I think the Ascent is not a bad choice. Better than the vehicle you had before and the black interior makes it look better. I don’t know why you looked at Pilots, RAV4’s and all of them generic vehicles but not at something more interesting like a Ford Bronco, Explorer, maybe even a GMC.
Bronco = Not a 3 row, Explorer = Would have been fine, but wife likes Japanese cars, GMC = didn't even think about it and would have got shut down by the wife. She likes Subaru and I kinda like them also :) I was the one who recommended we get the Forester and can honestly saw was not disappointed.

Love is in the air ❤
Like the technology and the ceiling a/c vents - that's pretty fancy! About the power liftgate - does it have a single motor or dual motors? The ones with a single motor tend to get crooked with time.
Looks like duel since both struts are huge, but not sure
is auto hold only available through the screen? no physical button?
Correct - Only in the screen
@@VitaliyKofman does it have any physical buttons at all? Might be a topic for the "what I don't like" video :)
@@lugburz7539 It has very few buttons and that video will be out next week
@@lugburz7539we’ve had our 2022 Touring for little over a year now and the lack of physical buttons and loss of the upper dash screen were a couple reasons we specifically sought a 2022 model. Absolutely love the car
Love, it’s what makes a Subaru a Subaru!
3rd Generation is my favorite. Looks sleeker, more refined.
That area where the water came out behind the wheelwells is the same area where my sunroof drains.. I had a similar situation with my 2007TC but I knew my sunroof drains were clogged as I was also getting a drip from my overhead light in front of the sunroof. I used a high pressure water hose (purchased at Wal Mart for 14.99) that slid down the drain holes of the sunroof to unclog them and also cleaned out the cowl area which was clogged and blocking the drains on either side there. So far so good.
