Amen brother
Absolutely
Hooah, did 20 years Army, then 23 years on the railroad, thank God for retirement. I also agree with you.
Thanks for your comment AND your service as well. Stepson is in now as a tank commander about to get back home from a Poland deployment. Another son was in for six as an aviation mechanic. You wouldn't believe some of the DEI type stuff being rammed down their throats. It's no wonder they can't fill the ranks. After Tuesday though it's gonna get so much better.
@ I concur, I do believe that President Trump will be taking us in the right direction. I like your channel, look forward to up and coming videos.
Thank you so much. It may be a few days. Wife has some medical issues which will hopefully be solved in the morning.
Nice review, thank you for the video; that driveway turned out nice! I was getting ready to order an 8 foot EA last week until I discovered they stopped filling orders without refunding those already made. In fact, they are still accepting new orders! That's dirty! Luckily I researched deeply before ordering. Ended up purchasing an 8 foot Catawba that cost $1,000.00 less, weighs 300 lbs. more, and shipped the same week. I have a large property landscaped in rock to maintain as well as a 1 mile long road that leads to our house. I've been using a box blade, so a large land plane should be a major upgrade.
You'll really enjoy the land plane for the driveway. It doesn't move material from place to place like a box blade but it really dresses up surface. I had another viewer say that EA was "back in business" and his order was filled and shipped very quickly. I could be wrong but I think the courts probably froze their assets during all of the legal mess - not that I dived very deep into what was going on there.
I enjoyed this video, thank you for sharing your story and speaking the truth about the state of our land. Thank you for your service to our country, and service to the public.
Thanks Andrew. Regular folks have to start taking a stand and not be afraid to speak out. We got in this mess because good folks failed to take a stand in my opinion.
Great video David, glad you're recovering from covid. JLM
Great to hear from you Jeff! Hope all is well on your end.
Hey neighbor, I would also roll out some curlex blankets to help hold that seed in place. Gonna do the same for the riding ring.
We'll chat. The light rain last night helped. She's bleeding me dry with this horse stuff! ;)
Thanks for the video. Gives me confidence for doing this myself. Are there instructions for removing the safety shrouds around the drive shaft? Don't get me wrong I'm all for safety, but they get in the way for maintenance.
Adjusting and "burning in" the slip clutch is easy as pie - and VERY necessary. After doing this just make sure to use it a few minutes and make sure the clutch isn't getting too hot. If it burns the crap out of your hand it's too hot. I always spit on it first to make sure it's cool enough to touch. No manufacturer is going to give you instructions on how to remove any safety device. Liability issues. DISCLAIMER: I can't advise you to do that either. However, some of the shrouds have bolts that hold the shroud on. In my case, I just took my old aviator survival vest knife - kind of like a kabar - and cut that sucker off. You gotta be real careful going that route though. A military survival knife will do the job but you'll be applying a lot of pressure. If the blade slips then anything in its path is most definitely going to get a very very very nasty cut! They're good tools to keep in your "tractor tool bag" for cutting weeds away from tillers and twine or wire away from brush hog blade spindles, etc etc. Another option which might work would just be some shears or very heavy duty scissors. I'm not advising this but you make your own decisions in life understanding the pros and cons and the risks involved.
One thing no one who owns one mentions the horse power requirements these mulches need. I have a tractor with less than forty hp and this here mulcher needs over that to operate properly. The same with my mulcher that is designed for 40hp a larger tractor would have too much power and could damage it.
Agreed. It's always a good idea to talk to the manufacturer and fit the implement to your tractor. At least take a look at the specs online if nothing else.
😂❤
Yep
Just saw this video. Really informative. The question I have is how did you find the torque specs. I can’t seem to find any material on this but would love to know. Thanks much.
Most manuals will have torque values based on what grade the bolt is marked. Unless there's a specified torque I go with the chart. I don't recall seeing one in the TYM manual but a chart is available with a quick internet search.
I want to follow up on my previous comment: I ordered a 'wicked' grapple on 9/3/24, which was confirmed, and then on 9/15/24 I ordered a box blade. On 9/16/24, I was informed that both were ready to be shipped. I paid for both and on 9/23/24, I received both here in southern Oregon. Guess they're up and running and doing OK.
That's fantastic news. They build excellent stuff that is very heavy duty. We have several of their implements and will certainly purchase from them again.
Where's the rebar? Wouldn't you put rebar in something that size? Or am I missing sometime. Super curious if I'm just completely missing something here
In my neck of the woods it is not a requirement until you get to the 5" mark. This pad is 4" of 3500 psi concrete on a base of hard packed sand rock with a smidge of well packed (4 years worth) of gravel. Around these parts people don't rebar driveways or sidewalks or even barn pads less than 5" unless you're going to put extreme weights on them. If I were doing that then I'd put in a 6" pad with rebar as you suggest.
I had just ordered the 60" today just like in your video and just BEFORE I watched the video which was very good. Suprised me that there were comments saying they had gone out of business - hopefully not, and hope the 'wait' time isn't tooo long. BTW - I got an email from them confirming the order.
That's a very interesting development. I'll be sure to stay tuned and see how it develops. I was also under the impression that they were no longer in business. I do know that they make / made outstanding pieces of equipment. We have several of their implements / attachments and have been very pleased with their products.
@@hiddenacresoutdoors Follow up on my previous comments. I ordered a grapple on 9/3 and then a box blade on 9/15. I asked them to ship both items in one delivery. Got an email from EA on 9/16, stating they were ready to ship both items together and were requesting payment, which I complied. Had them shipped to a business location (saved on additional residential delivery fees) where I had purchased my Yanmar YT235 in Central Point, OR. On 9/23, Brim Tractor picked up my tractor to install rear remotes and top/tilt hydraulics. On 9/25, Brim brought my YT235 back home with the remotes and hydraulics installed along with the grapple and box blade from AE hooked up and ready to go. I tried everything out a little, but I need to grease up the grapple before really getting into it. I would definitely say that AE is back in business without much of a delay in delivering.
That is fantastic news! Being in NC I usually try to buy as local as I can and I've never been disappointed with any of the EA equipment (we have several pieces). Thanks for the update!
Hydrostats have a relatively short life span and are very expensive to replace. If you plan to replace the machine after short time they should be o.k. But if this will be a tool for years of service opt for the traditional drive train.
I also have a shuttle shift LS that does the lion's share of the work bush hogging, discing, etc. Hopefully that'll pay dividends in longevity with the hydrostatic.
Crack the lines on each and all injectors and it should bust off. Oh by the way one of those filters is a water filter.
Gonna crack the injector lines and cross my fingers. Yes on the filters.
Air in hp lines
Agreed. Gotta crack the injectors.
You need to pursue the whole thing and run running and open up the injectors that. Feel the way you're gonna get at the run?
Going to crack the injectors and get rid of the air lock that way. Thanks.
Gotta burp the lines to each injector.
Yep. Probably get back to that tomorrow.
Aint got no gas in it😮
In some parts I suppose.
Check your injector pump for a fuel shut down selenoid. Check it for system voltage with key on. Try bleeding it with the key on to open seleniod and allow fuel to make it to your injectors. If it does not have a mechanical shut down it has a shut down selenoid. Cylindrical looking, generally one wire. I hope this helps.
Thanks. My regional TYM friend is stopping by this morning to take a look. I was hesitant about diving in any deeper and possibly voiding some type of warranty. I did bleed the injector pump with the key on for several seconds.
if those filters have bowls with loose o rings, sometimes they slip from the seat and suck in air. ive changed out the filter on a water fuel separator on a semi and that happened. in my case, i primed the bowl so it started but as he pulled away, the truck died. after that i started using some dielectric grease on the o rings bc its tacky so itll keep that o ring in place
That's a great idea. I had that happen initially with the number one filter and had to remove the bowl and reseat everything.
Won’t turn over or won’t fire off? If it will turn over but will not start you have air trapped. I am sure there are more professional ways to do it but the poor man way to do it is crank on it while cracking open the fuel line at the injector furthest from the pump. Once you have all the air out of that one move one closer. It should fire once you get more that half bleed free of air. The rest might take care of themselves but if rough idle continues keep. Working them in order. Hope that helps. If it won’t turn over you hit a sensor somewhere. Look to see if you have a water in fuel sensor. Most likely on the secondary filter but veries but brand. Some have two on them.
Yeah I mis-spoke when I said it wouldn't turn over. It does turn over but it won't fire. Air somewhere. My TYM mechanic friend is stopping by in a few minutes to fix it. Gun shy about voiding any warranties so I'll let him work his "sanctioned" magic.
If it won't turn over that sounds like a starter issue.
My bad choice of wording. It turns over but doesn't fire. Sorry.
Air somewhere
I think it's between the injector pump and the injectors.
Probably air in the high pressure lines. Crack a line at one of the injectors to get the bubble out
Just crank it over after you loosen a line and tighten it up once it starts running. Do it all the time when I run a tractor out of fuel
That's the plan after I finish this cup of coffee. Thanks.
ty sir
Not a problem
Nice presentation and good reasons to use each.
Thanks for watching!
Have used a 6’ flail on our pastures for years and love the results. Just ordered a ditch bank flail to reclaim some field encroachment on other parts of the property. Flail is especially good for pasture work because of the mulching to prevent encroachment of broadleaf weeds, which are not good forage for our horses. Have never used a rotary mower.
Love ours. Adjusted correctly they're hands down above a rotary cutter - just a bit more expensive and a bit more maintenance in my opinion.
How long is your PTO drive shaft, and did it come with the mower?
I'll have to measure it and get back to you but yes, it comes with the flail mower. I did not have to shorten the shaft if that helps. I'll get collapsed and extended measurements for you this week (unless anyone here cares to share?).
@@hiddenacresoutdoors Thank you, and I appreciate that! I have a TYM 494 and a TMG offset flail mower. The PTO shaft that came with it is too short, and before I spend a few hundred dollars on a new one, I'm trying to make sure I get the right one.
I haven't forgotten you. I have an air lock on the kukje engine that the mechanic is trying to clear. It won't start at the moment and the flail mower is attached to the tractor. Ergo, I can't get the fully collapsed and extended measurements quite yet. I'll get them to you as soon as this thing is fixed.
Sorry for the long delay in getting back to you. I haven't cut the driveshaft it came with. It collapses to 54" and extends to the 78" to 80" range. I didn't pull it all the way apart. The max extension needed when I have the mower all the way extended to the side using the TYM 574 is 78"ish. Hope that helps and again, sorry for the long delay.
Glad to see the barn progression
Thanks. It's been a long time coming. Now to get everything moved into place, semi-organized, and final grading and gravel work done!
nice demo ty sir
You're welcome. Hope it was helpful.
You need a battery powered grease gun and a LockNLube grease coupler. Game changers!
Funny you should mention that! I did exactly that a few months back. Much cleaner, faster, etc etc. Works like a champ. I can't believe I waited so long to buy one!
I have a Bush Hog BH15 rotary cutter and love it! I sure like that Rhino you have. I’d definitely buy a Rhino. Both brands at this time (2024) are owned by Alamo.
The big selling point for me was the blade carrier. I like to be able to see the gearbox output shaft vs the doughnut arrangement on most others. Plus the metal was a bit thicker. I had an issue initially with the drive shaft but it was replaced about a month outside of the warranty at no cost. They even drop shipped it to my house! The Rhino is tough as nails and I've abused it in use. Just make sure to keep them serviced and they'll keep on tickin'. I do wish I'd opted for the 6' now that I have a slightly larger tractor though. Lesson learned.
Don’t forget to grease the 2 plastic grease fittings on the PTO driveline.
Exactly.
That’s Tremendously Awesome! Have A Great New Week!
Thank you very much!
Agree. Rotary mowers are for use on OTHER people's land---the flail is for your own. "Duck-bill" flails are for grass and produce a "cut" equivalent to, or better than a "finish mower's" results, better than, actually, because they don't leave windrows of "mulch" like finish and rotary mowers do. I use my top link to hold up the front of the mower, allowing the aft roller to contact the ground all the time. That way you can just throw the three-point lift control lever all the way down every time without any danger of scalping. Control cutting height with your top link (which is under compression rather than tension in this application). This also allows the mower to follow the contours of the land without jumping up in the air when the tractor goes over a hump (which is what happens when using the lift arms to control cutting height...) I keep one set up for grass/lawns with "Y" blades (or duckbills) the other with hammers for brush/minor "forestry mulching." (two-inch stuff and smaller) It is a true saying that once you've used a flail, you'll never go back to a "scalp hog" mower. My rotary mowers sit forlorn, unloved and unused over by a fence row. But no one will buy 'em once they see your flail mower's results.....
Excellent reply and great points. I think I'll keep the Rhino rotary cutter for one of my fields that seems to grow big rocks. It's easier to sharpen cutter blades than to sharpen all of the hammers in my opinion. The offset and articulating aspect of the flail mower is an absolute game changer.
can you get blades for the titan? did you try ? i seen another video they had issues. rhino is top quality on ur rotary
Yes, you can get replacement hammers for the Titan. I bought a pack of five with the machine and they also sent me replacement hammers for the ones I damaged when it ate the safety chains. Agreed on the Rhino rotary. It's a great machine.
These ditch bank flail mowers are a little bit more upkeep to keep running, but definitely a better cut than rotary brush. I have a Betstco AGL165, and I just had my hydraulic cylinder fail on mine after 60h of use. Taking them to a local hydraulic shop for new piston rings and seals and have them camber the ports inside the cylinder.
Agreed. I certainly hope I don't run into those type of problems at the 60 hour mark though! One thing I do wish was different was the drive system. I'm not a fan of the 3 belt drive and would much prefer a gear driven system protected by a slip clutch. For the price point though I'll just have to settle with the belts and use the Rhino rotary cutter for very tall and lush grass. The hammers also require a lot more maintenance to keep them sharpened mainly because I use them to mulch up saplings and woody stemmed stuff down in the woods.
Thanks bud you just help me make a decision
Ours is still running strong. The only thing I've done since we've had it is change out the spark plug once. I did order a carb kit for it off of Amazon because the gas bulb that you use to prime it finally developed a crack. It runs fine but leaks gas from the bulb which is a big no-no. Simple fix. Let us know how you like it.
I just bought a used unit exactly like yours with 39 hours on it. I didn't get an owners manual with it so I don't know the year of manufacture. What year is yours?
2021 Go to the Gravely website and there should be a manual available for free download under the support menu.
I'm dealing with this same situation now. I haven't gotten into the brood chamber yet, but I would bet mine looks the same. I just ordered a new queen for next-day air, because even if my queen is still in there, this behavior is NOT okay!
I tried replying but it doesn't show up for some reason. Our hive did very well after getting rid of the aggressive queen. We had to do a split on it this Spring since it was doing so good. Both of those hives are booming at the moment. We'll harvest honey probably the first week of July.
The dog?
The dog is a nut and is still running around like he just escaped from an insane asylum.
Good video. Like your plan using rain and mowing to get seed coverage
Thanks. Now to get the flail mower fixed today so I can make that plan happen!
How'd you know it would be a double yolk??
Because the egg was absolutely huge. Look at our “Poor Chicken” short to see how big it was compared to a normal egg.
Good information, right on target .
Thank you very much!
I need to go in on Wednesday and find her. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.
I'll be sure to film it!
Just purchased a new 494 (open top) should be delivered in the next day or so god willing. I’m in Georgia so we don’t get much cold. A 35 hp tractor would probably been more than I needed but as usual I over buy just in case I’d rather have and not need than need and not have. Your video was helpful thank you very much for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it. Always buy up when buying a tractor if you can afford it in my opinion. You'll find a hidden benefit in that the 494 is going to be much beefier and weigh much more than a lighter 35 HP tractor. That really comes in handy when trying to use the FEL or any pushing/pulling work for that matter.
Hope you enjoy it!
OK, I think she's decided on a name. I'll give y'all another chance to earn the reward money by giving you a couple of clues. #1 is that we are Southern Baptists. #2 is that she is an Emergency Department provider. 1 + 2 = a Biblical name for the horse.......
Names sequoia,mist,cherish
She's leaning HEAVILY towards a name nobody has mentioned as of yet.
Heres a few ideas Whiskey, Cola, Dame, Ode, oh idk?
I believe she just vetoed all of those. Sorry.
