Remembering CHRISTIAN FERRAS, who died on this day in 1982.

Je viens de découvrir la vraie sonate de Debussy. Merci à Christian le Grand. Les autres violonistes sont tous passés à côté. quelle expression française .

son jeu est un jeu d'instinct, c'est-à-dire un jeu ou son bras et sa main gauche et la conduite de son archet est si maitrisée et libre en même temps qu'elle suit son inspiration du moment sans que cela gêne ou rompe en quoi que ce soit la ligne musicale; cela est le grand art de l'interprétation.

What a great maestro and human he was. That concentrate vibrato and those glissando's, can't be described with words. The world will always miss him..

Ferras gives an inimitably "French" touch to this masterpiece using his fast vibrato and quicksilver bow-arm to achieve delicate shades combined with passionate outbursts.

Allow me to add my appreciation. I have loved Ferras' Sibelius and Tchaikowsky VCs for many years. I believe Mr Bourassa lives on, now 89. He has an entry in the Canadian Encyclopedia online, and was apparently a much-sought after accompanist. I share your sadness at CF's untimely end and thank you for keeping his musicianship alive.

Today it is exactly 30 years ago that Christian Ferras died. What a marvelous musician he was.

I have to wonder, what made him start playing with a shoulder rest, when he clearly used neither shoulder or chin rest in his younger days? Changing times demanding compromise, I suppose. That must have hurt him deeply.

@fingerhorn4 some hope for us: things are changing. an environment like TH-cam is not just another technology, but a deep change in collective awareness. Here we can see and hear them again and again, and gradually some of the best and forgotten emerge to the top. Good public relations can less and less distort our autonomous "objective" minds. It's like a collective psychoanalysis of a sort, through which hidden treasures of our past experiences and knowledge are coming to light.
