In this video, we will be listening to TWO different versions of the song "Monkey Wrench" by Foo Fighters off of their 1997 album "The Colour & The Shape" (This is also the album that has "Everlong" and "My Hero" on it!) One version is the major label release that we know and love, and the other version is the original demo. I recently found out that this song originally featured a different dr...

Not a drummer, but that drum fill in Lost In Germany has been one of my favorites forever! Glad to see someone highlight it! Another one of my favorite Jerry moments is in the breakdown after the solos in "I Just Can't Help It" before they go back into the last verse.
Yes!! His breakdown in “I can’t help it” is genius!
Great lesson, thank you! If talking about punk drummers then Smelly from Nofx and Gordy from Frenzal rhomb are my top dudes for single pedal) cheers from Russia!)
Thanks for watching and for the kind words! I’ve never heard Frenzal Rhomb, I’m gonna check them out!
@@DruMarshallDrums i hope you like them) drumming by Gordy is so true)

my all time favorite band or 3 cool guys that make awesome music
Best band ever!!
I cannot express how wrong this feels, I’d rather watch a brother and sister kiss 😅

2:27 this is SICK
Gracias! 🥁😄
The ultimate team player, zero ego.
Couldn’t agree more!
Nice video! And very realistic btw... Thanks for not be like Drumeo and say "I never heard All The Small Things" 😂 you should do with Black Rain... Definetly the most unexpexted song from Travis
Thanks for watching! Haha yeah everyone has heard Blink 182! And thanks for the suggestion, I’ll keep that in mind!
This was honestly fun to watch. Do more guesstimation videos with this format. Love your drumming and then love your reaction to the actual drumming on the song. Keep up the great work!
Thank you very much! Guesstimation is a great term haha. More to come!
So that’s what the kids are calling it these days, Take number 17 😉
Hahaha exactly! 🤣
I wonder how much of the drum parts and especially the sounds / gear used was actually from Jerry Finn. Not saying Travis isn’t gifted as a drummer and a composer but I think Jerry had his say on the drum stuff too.
That’s a fair point! Jerry Finn was a genius 😎
Why not just use one of the songs from “One More Time” ?
I heard that album before I had the idea for this video 🤣
@@DruMarshallDrums ah. Fair enough 👍🏼 (Btw I’m an old skool blink fan as in watched them in local San Diego bars before the “182” and I have to say the new album is one of my favorites)
@@codycast I'm jealous! Wish I could have seen them back in the day!
@@DruMarshallDrums yeah. I saw them when they were just “blink”. In places like Soma with maybe 50 people watching.
"That groove is sooo cool" True shit bro.. that's what Travis does and something I love him for.. He's not the best but he definitely does have a way of making the drum sound better ❤️
He is uniquely himself at all times behind the kit. You always know it’s him!
I feel this sounds more like something Scott would be playing..Travis is more evolved sharp even when he's smashing everything around.. Overall, I think you did a pretty good job keeping the Blink182 vibe on it 😁
This is one of the best blink 182 songs, it's incredible
It’s such a jam! Thanks for watching! 😄🥁
Thanks my guy !
For sure! 😄🥁
Points for the unique setup
Thanks! The hardware that came with the set made it fun 😄
all three guys are crucial to their sound. My favorite band as well. Probably the best live performance I've ever seen or heard and from just three guys
Completely agree! They put the “power” in the term “power trio” 🤘😄
The drums sounds and mix are incredible
If you’re talking about the original, I fully agree. If you’re talking about my version, thanks! Haha appreciate you watching! 🤘😆🥁
@@DruMarshallDrums yeah I'm talking about yours, your snare is awesome
@@zeldaaudio2476 thank you very much! Never expected a PDP snare to sound that good, she’s a beauty!
Travis's stuff was obviously great, but I liked your version going into double time! Sounded great. I saw Blink last night in Dublin, Travis was IMMENSE.
Dude I just saw a Travis video from that Dublin show, he was going nuts! Thanks for watching! 🤘😄
I'm convinced that no one hits the kit harder than Dave Grohl. Great comparison vid!
Fully agree! Dave is an absolute monster behind the kit!
the saosin shirt is sooo sick!! could u do a saosin video with a song from the Translating The Name EP??
Thanks! Absolutely, that EP is amazing. Changed my drumming when I first heard it!!
Dave is the best, but Taylor was also a great drummer. Josh has a phenomenal resume and I’ve seen him with the Foo. He seems to fit really well. The true test will be the next record.
Dave is the GOAT!
wonderful playing!
This is sooo interesting. Thanks for digging in!
Thanks for watching! Glad you dug it!
Oh.....I am happy you did this video, i havent ever seen one truly getting into the small aspects of Monkey Wrench. Great job
Try recording anything when everyone around you is just waiting for you to get out of the way. And the tempo is slower. It sounds like the guitarist is figuring out how he wants to play the song.
This really isnt fair to Goldsmith. The mix for grohl has the Hi-Hat pushed up so you can feel him leading the music also the Bass Drum is saturated in a compressed/noise gate that hides the slight reverse reverb
Yeah the mix is way better in the version that got released. Perhaps if the demo were mixed differently it wouldn’t have felt as lackluster but drum-wise, I think Dave nailed it!
Goldsmith plays with less dynamic range and less energy. I would be curious how much of that is the mix.
Yeah, hard to say! In general, it feels like Goldsmith has a more laid back approach
Noooice 🥁
Thank you! 😄 🥁
Hopefully you do another blink video like this!
I definitely will! Have a few videos I’m gonna post before that but there will be another blink one for sure!
This was so dope. Please do many more!!
Thanks for the kind words! Will do! 😄🥁
Well played and honestly true to form for Travis so even when you were off the mark you might as well have been because it was basically luck at that point. If I may offer one man's constructive piece criticism: I wish you'd explained a bit more WHY you chose to play what you played instead of just stating it. Also could've been fun to review the final product section by section. Cheers mate good luck!
That’s a great point! Next time I’ll go more in depth and explain the choices I make for those drum parts. Thanks for watching!
You're absolutely right about the unique identity. I would only add that what makes them so great is what they add to the collaboration of the song. They find a way to craft a song, not by adding a bunch of fills and grooves that wouldn't make sense, but adding what would be the best part to or for the song. Perfect examples for each one for me is Jerry's drum parts for the song "We Were Born to be Loved". Now that is one hell of a unique and creative groove and drum parts for that song. Take out any of it or change any of it and the piece falls apart. For Neil Peart and Rush that song would be La Villa Strangiato and the syncopated grooves he does before the solos in 6/8. Wow, til this day I've not heard anything like that since. Both songs were not easy to learn and took some time to finally get it down and play it correctly.
Very well said! King’s X always felt like an “egoless” band for me. Everyone is incredible and everyone has their moments but no one steps on anyone else or sacrifices the quality of the song. Thanks for watching and for your input!
Everyone hated on California but left alone and Teenage satellite totally rocked. Honestly the album was solid overall but obv not their best one
Hey, solid is good enough for me! 🤘🥁😄
@DruMarshallDrums definitely overhated, I think a lot of people assumed the same as you. Even if the album was decent, "It's not Blink without Tom" so everyone hated not even willing to listen to the album.
@@craig2196 yeah I should have been more open minded when it first came out!
@DruMarshallDrums If you are going to listen to the album, I recommend listening to only the deluxe songs first. Everyone agrees that the Deluxe songs are better than the original songs. And just to cover my ass. It's in my opinion that it's their worst release, but there's a difference between worst and objectively bad. It's a 6-7/10, but when you're comparing it to 10/10 Enema, TOYPAJ, and Self-Titled, it seems terrible.
Please do more of these videos!!!
Can do! I’ve got some fun ideas coming up and after I finish those, I’ll do more “what would x drummer play?” 😄🥁
Very reasonable guesses at what he might've done, but I also immediately knew there was just no way he was gonna get it right! That's part of what makes Travis so great, yeah he's got a style but every now and then he just does some stuff you could've never predicted.
Exactly! He’s totally unpredictable!
Glad you picked out Over and Over - what a song!
I’ve listened to that song on many long drives 😄
