Fontomfrom by Dodowa Talking Drummers
Fontomfrom or Obonu is a drum beat from the southern part of Ghana. The ensemble is made up of two different sets of drums - two big drums and two smaller drums called the Atumpani(Atumpan).
This drum form is only performed for Kings or in Palaces. It goes with a majestic royal dance that is performed by specially trained persons who are mostly royals. It got its name from the two large drums called fontomfrom or Obonu by the Dangme people of Southeastern Ghana.
