Upstream Morning Paddle
A dugout canoe weighs a couple of hundred pounds, so paddling upstream is good vigorous exercise. In the early morning around any bend in the river, one could encounter monkeys, swimming swamp antelope, basking tree snakes, and a variety of birdlife living in the forest surrounding the river's course.

Evening River Sounds
มุมมอง 512 ปีที่แล้ว
A symphony of birdsong echoes through the late evening treetops as a dugout canoe glides along the narrow course of a river shaded by tropical rain forest. Shortly evening will give way to dusk when crocodiles take to the currents in search of river snails and fish. Later after sunset when the moon rises tree hyraxes bark dementedly from their perches atop towering liana-draped trees, before pa...

African Schools Emptied for Xmas
มุมมอง 513 ปีที่แล้ว
Schools over much of West Africa reopened without complications despite the ongoing global pandemic, but with Xmas around the corner, their premises are once again emptied out, until the new year. This means a little sight seeing is in order, aboard the Phantom 3 Standard, now coming up on a cumulative 600 miles logged in over 120 flights over the past few months.
African University Campus
มุมมอง 1473 ปีที่แล้ว
Time to defy gravity once again, despite November skies promising some light rain late in the season. This time, the destination is the campus of a university, viewed from a bird's eye perspective, on a lazy Sunday afternoon. This site was carefully inspected from adequate height during a preliminary overfly, to note the map location of all fourteen radio masts on the campus, thereby defining a...
African Town Aerial Tour
มุมมอง 993 ปีที่แล้ว
Let us take to the skies on a slow aerial tour of an African town. With the annual rainy season tapering off, clear skies free of dry season haze, make for superb flying and filming. For your listening pleasure, I have left the soundtrack to your individual discretion, as the images flow by. The venerable Phantom 3 Standard is regarded by many as the Model T ancestor of modern, more capable dro...
Baby Genet and Kittens Wrestling
มุมมอง 18K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This adorable baby African genet orphan has been raised by our cat from infancy, alongside her kittens, and now they are all just about old enough to start grappling and chasing each other around. Watch as the baby genet rears up on his hind legs to pounce, having watched the kittens doing so.
Baby African Marsh Mongooses Exploring

Some more footage of the baby African Marsh Mongooses on the rampage again, chasing one another around. They were later released into the wild, on the forested shores of a nearby river, where they have likely set up home now, snacking on minnows and fresh water shrimp.

Sorry about the shaky picture. I was being jostled by the other dog, who also grew up best buddies with Tomcat, and wanted in on the action. No harm is ever done in these friendly bouts, and all three pugilists spend much of the day snoozing together in the hallway.

      Thanks for stopping by. This footage was filmed with an old DJI Phantom 3 Standard flying under the fully autonomous control of Litchi, and following waypoints sequenced out beforehand using my desktop, which made possible those gradual camera pans that I could never replicate manually with such smoothness. Beyond visual range flight is permissible out here in the sticks.

    do genets smell like ferrets? Is there anywhere were I can look up info about owning one before I buy? I'd like to know if they always have to be caged, or if they smell, of if they can be let out unsupervised (like a cat) .. or if they can be neutered by a regular vet, Or if I need to find an exotic vet. Or if there are temperamental differences been a male and female. Or if there is any difference between a small spotted genet and a large spotted genet,

    • @riverbankfisher
      @riverbankfisher ปีที่แล้ว

      The genet that I raised remained very shy and didn't like being handled much. Let him go since I live near some forest. Hardly any smell at all but those claws were as sharp as surgical blades. All in all my experience was that a gennet was not a good house pet, since it remains wild despite lots of handling.

    • @bevs9995
      @bevs9995 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@riverbankfisher Ive heard that if you adopt a genet, that you have to keep them away from other pets at first so that they only attach to you, since they can only attach to one, and that it should preferably be its owner and not another animal. And that there is no such thing as "Rehoming " a genet, because when they lose their 1 attachment, they frequently revert back to becoming completely feral. That's quite sad. But I think that I would still like to own one. Even though theyre shy. They still seem friendly and sweet (with their owners) and are good with cats. Thanks for your reply.

      @@bevs9995 Is it even legal? Watch some videos of genets out in the wild and you'll quickly understand they don't belong in a cage... that would be mental and physical torture for the animal. They cover vast ground at night foraging of their own free will. They mate, have kits/pups/young, teach them to be genets... Please don't think you should take all this away from one.

      Yes, this footage is from the tropics. Thanks for stopping by. The wide-tracked D7G bulldozer is used to create artificial lakes alongside the river forest fringe, without damaging any trees. The lakes are stocked with catfish, while also strategically located to block the forest access paths previously used by renegade bandit loggers seeking to deforest the area.

    • @riverbankfisher

      Hello Tony, While there are quire a few TH-cam videos of people raising gennets in the USA, I am not sure what the laws in New York are, regarding gennets has house pets. Even if the laws permit keeping gennets, they tend to revert back to being jumpy, timid and wild, if they are not handled enough. This gennet in my video is doing well among the litter of kittens so far, but I notice he stays hidden most of the day. Finally got him eating shredded chicken today, to help wean him off the mother cat who fed him from the start when he came in as one of two orphans.
