    They were so small because they weren't thinned when dime to quarter size on the tree. If you thin them so they are all about 6 inches apart on each branch you will get much larger fruit. I learned this the hard way. ;-)

    That book of "curious markings" is Gregg Shorthand (you were right) used when taking dictation, useful for secretaries "back in the day". I actually took a course in high school (I am 66 yrs, graduated in 1974), along with typing on an IBM Selectric typewriter, as I prepared for a future secretarial job. Didn't actually use my shorthand skills as dictaphones were in use then. (I think you may have some googling to do to understand my explanation :) Still remember some of it and have a small shorthand dictionary I have kept all these years. I, too, love old books and am currently reading a novel written in 1928 that I purchased with many others :) at a bag sale when a nearby bookstore was paring down several years ago. I love the intricate designs on old silverware and keep my tarnished collection displayed in a mug with the designs "up" so I can enjoy them daily. You scored a wonderful group plus all the kitchen utensils. My mom made a coffee in a percolator with a clear glass knob on top, so you can see and hear the coffee when it's ready! I have one that I have used for camping too! Thanks for sharing & taking me on a walk down memory lane! New subscriber :)

    Drying it out is pretty simple. Just take your starter smear it thin on parchment paper, let it sit out until it is completely dry. Then break it I to pieces, and I store my dried starter in the freezer as a backup incase I ever contaminate mine.

    Why bleach

    • @thebluebonnethomestead9130
      @thebluebonnethomestead9130 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The bleach is totally optional. If you want to lighten the color of your fabric use bleach. But if you like the natural linen color of the drop cloth, you can just skip the bleach altogether. ;)

  • @OurJoyfulHouse
    @OurJoyfulHouse 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I really enjoyed watching this! I've been wanting to make a natural all purpose cleaner for my house and wasn't sure where to start! I love how you showed what you use it on too! I'm always curious with natural cleaners if they can be used on all kinds of different surfaces. Thanks for showing that!

    • @thebluebonnethomestead9130

    Can I bleach them in the bathtub? Did you have any issues with one dropcloth in your washer? I have a HUGE window to cover and was so happy to run into this video. Thank you so much for the tutorial and the links for drop cloths! Have a blessed week.

    • @thebluebonnethomestead9130
      @thebluebonnethomestead9130 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gamaw 52 thank you!! Yes I believe you can do this in the bath tube as long as the liner in your tube can handle the bleach. I didn’t have any issues with one drop cloth in my washer and dryer. I made sure to launder one drop cloth at a time because they are so big. I hope this helps! 😊

    A good draper will allow costly fabric to hang awhile prior to hemming to avoid the length from altering over time. For a speedier method that will also help to to remove wrinkles....Pin up a temporary hem that clears the floor by several inches. Close one panel so the fabric is extended to it entire width. Insert a rod into that bottom hem. Gravity is evenly distributed across the rod and will gently pull out the wrinkles and slightly stretch the fabric on the vertical. You could use a 2x2 or 2x4 instead of the rod if your curtain rod and hardware are sturdy. The wood will increase the weight and therefore the pull on the wrinkles. If the cloth is slightly damp or you can steam it as it hangs, so much the better. The moisture will help relax the fabric into shape. Make certain whatever you use for a rod cannot not discolor the fabric. To finish up, leave the curtains hanging and remove the temporary hem. Drag your ironing board to the window and steam press just the bottom section of the curtain panels. If you have a portable sewing machine, consider stitching the permanent hem with the curtains hanging in place. You could hang the curtains backwards temporarily so it is easier fold the hem. It can be less work to move your tools about than to wrestle with yards and yards of clean white cloth.
