Homemade processor with a mere 19 hp kubota d950 engine may surprise you. Running fresh cut hickory logs through the 6 way wedge in this video. The splitter cylinder is 4" bore and the prince auto cycle valve I just replaced and have not adjusted yet, so it's at the factory default 2000 psi. @@HuckThis1971 alternative brand power sources have crossed my mind, however I believe reconfiguring the machine would be pretty difficult to accomodate a physically larger engine, cooling system, etc. Also, the hydraulic system size doesn't require any additional engine power currently, the only time it needs a slight boost is when cutting while retracting the splitter cylinder. Just a couple of extra ponies would put it in the sweet spot I believe, and a turbo addition should be much easier and more cost effective than trying to shoehorn a larger engine.

    Nice working machine. Everyone thinks they are easy to build. Most people couldn't even route the hoses after everything else was built. I made my own 36" stroke splitter with auto cycle, 4 way hydraulic adjust wedge and hydraulic power for conveyer. It took a lot of thinking, tack welding and grinding to get everything to work. And was a pile of money. After that I was planning to build a processor but decided I would be in for just as much money anyway so I bought a Wallenstein processor.

    • @BigBlue12V
      @BigBlue12V ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, and you're right. You have to be thinking about hoses when you mount everything. And don't be scared to write a big check to the hose shop. Not every machine can be built with farm store cheap hoses. It's hard to engineer a good balance of ergonomics, weight, function, cost, efficiency, engine power, hydraulics etc. I've seen untold amounts of videos of processors both commercially produced and homemade and I see room for improvement in almost all of them. Including mine! The trick is to find the balance that fits your situation.

    I like the evolution of your machine, question on the electric clutch for the cutter, do you have heat issues with it engaging it for every cut? Has it held up pretty good? What size kubota engine you running? I am a D1150 I was going to use for mine, just wasn't sure on pump size/ type. Yours seems to run at a fair speed. Anyways, like the layout of the machine.

    • @BigBlue12V
      @BigBlue12V ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! No isues at all with the clutch. Initially when I set it up I put on a used clutch from a mower. It eventually wore out and I replaced it with a brand new one. That was years ago. You gotta think, starting the saw is nothing compared to getting 3 big heavy 21" mower blades going. Engine is a Kubota D950. The latest redesign incorporates a split cylinder with a larger rod, now returning more fluid through base end port than it can handle which results in a pressure spike upon return stroke (power draw) and I'm running so many pressure and flow regulators on everything else, that draws more power as well. So now i'm hunting for more power, thinking of adding a turbo. And would like to have cylinder reworked with a 3" rod made for it, adding a 1" port to base end and install a dump valve. That and the turbo should gain me another 25% in productivity I beleive. I love the layout of the machine. There are only a couple of things I would change. The ramp should be steeper. I will eventually add a powered hourglass roller to the back end of the log feed trough. Ran another machine that has one, and really liked it.

      @@BigBlue12V Thanks a ton for the response. I like the clutch drive to the bar alot better then hyd. Just seems like its way more expensive for what it needs to be that way. What size pump you running behind that? I agree with the cylinder, I have a large one off a man lift that is 48" stroke and I am going to shorten it to 36". My Kubota came off a Bunton reel mower, and has a large piston pump since everything on the mower was hyd. So I am thinking it will have enough capacity to handle the splitting side. Just curious what size pump you running?

    • @BigBlue12V
      @BigBlue12V ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ehr400 I think the direct drive is more energy efficient than hydraulic drive, and in my application that's enough reason alone. I'm not sure if there are ANY processors out there that are either 20hp range or in the sub 1 gallon per hour of fuel consumption range that can honestly produce a face cord in ten minutes in real life use. I'm running a two section single stage pump, 7 gallon per minute runs everything but the splitter. 15 gpm runs the splitter, and the return from that also runs the conveyor. I only need 5 or so gpm for conveyor but there's almost no return fluid flow available from the 7 gpm stuff because of all the flow and pressure regulators that have direct to tank return ports. By the time it goes through all of those, there's not enough left to run the conveyor unless everything is sitting still. Tried it that way first lol. 7 gpm circuit only peaks at around 1200 psi usually. Splitter is regulated to 2200 psi.
