Whenever Stewart and De lancie shared scenes in original tng they were always a joy and thrill to watch.

Wow, starfleet academy is pretty short, here in Germany if you get your a levels at 18 a bachelors degree takes 3.5 years (if you don’t fail any tests) and a masters degree (the thing you actually want) takes another 1.5 years so if you don’t fail any tests and finish in perfect time (which few actually manage to do) you‘ll finish at age 23. Throughout the series its said that starfleet academy is quite a high level of education + military and combat training doing all that in 3 years is mighty impressive.

You know, Q says that only Picard's life and history will be affected by changing the future. But that's simply not true. We later see Picard back in the present as a Lieutenant JG on the Enterprise, which has an entirely different Captain. That Captain's life has been changed by being the Enterprise's CO. And that same Captain would have made different choices for every mission, than the one's Picard originally made. Jack Crusher might even still be alive. Every single person's decisions are unique to themselves. And it always affects those around them, one way or another.

Why does Q get so enraged at Picards overwhelming sense of integrity over time and preserving thus preventing him to play Qs game and learn the lessons he is trying to teach? It is also this rigidity that stagnant humanity to expand beyond the physical Because it represents the core fear the continuum have of humanity one day surpassing the Q because their moral integrity at such a early stage of their metaphysical advancement shows that they are superior to the Q.

I'll always consider it a missed opportunity that they didn't put Q in one of the "red jacket" uniforms.

I kinda wish Q had appeared in the Starfleet uniform of that era, would have looked interesting.

The real reason why Patrick Stewart is playing Cadet Picard is because it would be a boring episode if we see a younger actor.

Riker refused yet another promotion.

Oh my yes changes to the timeline gave us Kirtzman bad robot and std.

Maybe I don't understand Riker the best to give this thought up, but it seems pretty stupid to just up and deny Q's offer. Not to say Riker should fuck of and live transcended, free to abuse reality. But the opportunity to become like them seems to be something the federation would be all about knowing more of. To truly go where no man has gone before. And it's not like all the Q is terrible. We see with the Q we know that even though he's horrible and pompous, he has his own weird standards. He's more an annoying ass than anything else. And other Q we get to meet are more or less reasonable. Plus they do follow an order. With all these things to consider, something like "I'll consider it on my deathbed" would have been more in touch with Riker. He gets to tell off Q a bit, and leaves the door open for more discovery

Just two men in a room. No fancy effects, no musical score. Good lightning, though.

I would love it if Q sent me back in time as a 21 year old. Now at 55, I see the wisdom in reliving my life by completely avoiding all of my mistakes that lead to a lifetime of regrets. Come on, Q! Give me the same chance you gave Picard!

And the point of this episode, TNG fans, is that even if you can go backward in time the past is unalterable.

"I certainly don't look it." "Well, to everyone else you do." What a great, simple way to not need any kind of special effects or "young Picard" actor for this. They could have used the actor in the fight recreation, but they would have had to sacrifice a little bit of this great scene.

I'm actually surprised Picard was comfortable enough with Q to divulge that tidbit.

Even if you have brought me to the past somehow……man the writers just having characters say dumb stuff. We’ve established Q has powers beyond powers. Going back in time is a snap for him

Of course, the real gift that Q gave to Picard is to allow him to bone his old school friend without any ramifications whatsoever.

Such good acting, and compelling storytelling. Cheesey... But so much better than our current Star Trek. Why has entertaining taken such a back seat?

Always thought it was funny how Q was so frustrated by Riker - and, eventually, Sisko as well - that (afterword's) he confined himself to tormenting Picard and Janeway xD

i love picard’s unrelenting skepticism in the face of Q’s obvious power. he constantly challenges Q. picard seems to assume that the Q do not really have the power they claim to have. he seems to assume there is smoke and mirrors in the works. he also seems to be right. really great characterization but also just really interesting for a trickster god to be such a trickster that they aren’t even a god.
