Isolated vocal track: Mick Jagger singing on Carly Simon's "You're So Vain" (1972)
In 1972, Carly Simon invited Mick Jagger to the studio. She was recording "You're So Vain" and Jagger provided backup, uncredited. Around the 1:44 mark, you can really hear him, and it's even stronger starting at the 3:26 mark.

My friend Dan pointed out that I work at real-life Animal Crossing, and he's right! It's got quirky architecture, animal villagers, flower gardens, and more - just like an ACNH island! What is this place? It's a 70-year-old storybook theme park in Oakland, California called Children's Fairyland (fairyland.org). As the story goes, Walt Disney visited the park soon after it opened in 1950 and was...

    Could someone please put the timestamps, on when Mick’s voice actually comes in background. From what I can determine, its only a very very small fraction of the song. I think the song would’ve been number one with or without Mick’s very faint background singing.

    I can only discern Mick's voice in the chorus, and that was because I was consciously trying to hear it. If no one told me that Mick Jagger sang on this track, I would have gone to my grave not knowing that, and that would've been fine with me. He is so buried in the mix they could've gotten anyone to sing it and it would still be a great song. It's all Carly! 😍

    I can hear the differences in their delivery. Carly ends each line smoothly sliding to the finish, dragging out the note a bit. Mick delivers his line staccato, with a sharp attack and sudden ending like a machine gun.😎

    Another song you can listen to to hear vocal "ghosting," is The Doors song "Riders On The Storm." If you listen carefully to the chorus, you will hear Jim ghosting himself. He clearly sings "Riders on the storm," and then he "whispers," "riders on the storm." That's another one where once you hear it, you will never "unhear" it. 😉

    • @bmpvw
      @bmpvw ปีที่แล้ว

      The whispering you hear on Riders on the Storm was Jim Morrison's last recording with The Doors. His overlay was his last track. He died a few weeks later in Paris. Once you hear it, you can't unhear it. Incredible song.

    Just heard this song for the first time a few days ago. As soon as I heard it I was hooked. As a Stones fan, as soon as I heard the chorus, I knew that was Mick’s voice. His vocal timbre is so unique, I’ve never heard someone with a sound even close to his. So cool to hear how well they blend in isolation. Their voices really complimented each other.

    Just watched the Dave Grohl interview from a couple months ago... When he said as a child he could hear how Carly and Mick's voices combined made a "chord" when he heard this song on the radio, I said to myself... "They must have played a different "duet" version in his radio market, because as far I was concerned, Carly was the only person singing on this song." Of course now it became incredibly obvious why some people succeed very well with music and others struggle. The fact that he could hear that when he was 7 or 8 years old in his mother's Maverick completley blows me away, because those cars (like most in the 70's) were mono and had one crappy speaker in the dashboard... Simply amazing.

      Like any other skill or language, ear training can be learned. You didn't hear Mick's voice because you did not expect to hear it. If you expect to hear Nagger "ghosting" the chorus on this song, I bet you will hear it. I will say that we all have different brains that give us a natural affinity for certain disciplines.

I think my mental block to math started with my math teacher, Mr. Caspari, in 7th grade.
