    One advantage of the late war campaigns against the Japanese is that the majority of their pilots are of novice or average calibre. In '41/'42 there are lots more veterans and aces to harry you. 😉

    I forget if your rudder control is via pedals or a twist stick. I suspect the latter given the not uncommon tendency for your yaw to depart and oscillate at the moment of firing. This leads to wasted shots, and a really poor hit percentage. 😉 If your directional control is sloppy, firing when closer and in more controlled, shorter bursts is advisable. Long busts as your plane is swaying and porpoising about, and particularly when the target is on the far side, starts to resemble the 'spray and pray' gunnery of the novice. 😂

    Paveway fix is spacing set to zero in sms. Default is set at 175. So it is 175 from zero.

      No FreeFalcon requires the original Falcon 4. It can be bought on Steam. FreeFalcon wasn't very stable, if you prefer to mod something over Falcon 4, go rather for Falcon BMS. Newest version, looks beautiful.

      Hey friend. In Il2 you mean? I was usually flying the east front around the Crimea. But in real life, my favourite era is the Battle for Britain, La Manche, Dover, Hurricane, Spitfire ... that is what I love the most.

    If a flight you are commanding to attack a relevant target have no such target within 6km (I think) of them, they will be unable to comply.

      Yes, there is definitely some threshold for "seeing" enemies and reacting to them. I thought I was giving order within that range.

    I forgot to mention about the invisible clouds... you can also see their circular shadows on the surface. And so those shadows and the in-cloud 'fog' are not disabled when the clouds are made invisible. I would think it better to disable those other elements as well.

    My previous comment was made before you were egressing and with that persistent enemy following. I noted that you did actually lean left to better see behind you. So you do have 6dof capability, it would seem )unless you did that lean movement via the keyboard.) If your tracker is able to exert translational movement, I wonder why you appear to rarely take advantage. Do you have some fairly wide 'dead zone' set for those axes? I use no such tracker 'dead zones' (and the same for my joysticks) because I desire instant responsiveness without clunky 'gaps.' ;)

    Is your head tracker 6dof capable? All I see by way of translational movement is the very small amount tied to the panning movement. For example, when looking straight ahead the reticle is centered in the sight's reflector. Then while panning to the right thecreticle is seen to shift right by a small amount. This is the small offset built in to represent the fact that the eyes also sweep across some small distance as the head rotates. Another built-in movement is tied to G forces. As you maneuver your body is pushed about. For instance, when chasing a bandit under some positive G you are pushed down a bit in your seat and the reticle drops downward somewhat. If you have 6dof capability you can separately shift the viewpoint on the 3 translational axes, L-R, up-down and fore-aft. This allows to look about to better see around obstructions and to obtain a better sight picture. At the start, when you couldn't see the bombers, it was probably because the headrest/back armor plate blocked the view. With 6dif in operation you could lean to the left and lean forward so as to get that headrest more out of the way. The cloud effect you were seeing, without any cumulus clouds being seen anywhere in the sky, is the result of you somehow having disabled the drawing of those clouds. Even though the clouds are made invisible, the in-cloud 'fog' effect is still enabled whenever you are inside one of those invisible clouds.

      Hey mate. I am using the default setting, with no dead zones. There is a progressive curve for the movement, while close to the center position it moves slovely, the more further you move from the center, the more rapid the movement is. This seems to be perfect for me.

      Didn't complete it now, it is unwinnable right now. Too many enemy aircrafts in the air. This is the 2nd day of the campaign and it looks like I was the only one operating aircraft there. I ended this Skinkworks campaign and started the regular AF Korea campaign instead.

      @@olivere5497 to use shadows etc it would be necessary to get more detailed satelite image. Vehicles are visible at the road, but again just as a flat texture.

      @@Iceman42nd yeah i wouldnt rely on the ingame textures (x512?) , instead i'd look for a free or nearly free/public domain aerial image or even better a map produced by an offical cartographic agency for that region, at a scale which includes individual houses. Then work on a script which can produce nice results with the data provided.

    I suck at sweep missions . Situational awareness is not good enough , i often have to resort to using night vision during the day just to look at bandits

      It might be tricky, especially if too many enemies are in some area. Always good to return back to safer distance and approach them repeatedly. Never go too close to them.

    Lol, I could never figure out what I was supposed to drop bombs on in this mission. I flew it multiple times just to try to figure out what the target actually was. Poorly designed for sure. The bit about "do not expect fighters"...please. There's a difference between setting up a challenging but rewarding mission and just trolling your customers. A big difference, most of the time.

      There is a mistake in briefing for sure. No ground targets are visible on the map, just enemy aircrafts. Looks like the briefing is for some other mission. A pilot needs to be aware, that the situation might differentiate from the briefing. There is a saying, always have a plan before mission. If you have a plan, it might change. But if you don't have any plan, you will fail. Or something like it, hard to translate :D

    I'm just starting to play with setting drop tanks to have a random chance to burst into fire on contact with the ground. If I pursue it further I would have to enable them to also incur damage. At this moment I've just assigned a visual effect. The most versatile implementation of this would be to have an entry the player could add to the [Mods] section in conf.ini whereby the exploding drop tank feature would be enabled or disabled. Then one could have a mission where the plane otherwise has no option of napalm in the weapon load out, but could take drop tanks to burn stuff. But this would be best on missions where thectarget is not far away, else the tanks would be emptied. And of course it would generally be better to carry bombs instead of fuel tanks in the first place. Which makes the addition of such a feature not so terribly logical. 😉

    Great video. But of course you was not stealthy enough to reach that bridge. You keep yapping over the radio asking for pictures. These missions where done in total radio silence. From beginning till the end.

      That is true, but something like radio silence is not simulated in Allied Force. Basicly they saw me either on their radar - at close range, or directly visually. And an IR missile doesn't need any radar lock in order to find the target.

    You might be interested to know that earlier this evening I was fiddling around and added the capability for a dropped fuel tank to have a chance of erupting into a fireball upon impacting the ground if the fuel content is at least 25% of the tank's capacity.

    Aaarrrgh! I thought that BAT had included my P-39 cockpit! It has not. I know my F4F cockpit has been adopted. Perhaps I mistakenly thought the P-39 was included because upon installing BAT I had immediately ported over a ton of my mods out of habit. So sorry for leading you astray! 😢 You can of course add the mod.     The stock P-39s were all given the incorrect reticle, that being appropriate for the Russian PBP-1 gun sight in very wide use. This is the American sight represented here, and thecreticle should be a simple circle and dot. Moreover, there is a problem in that the reticle is repeating; there is not just the one reticle. These are among the things I fix when I mod a cockpit.

    When you fly Quick missions, upon finishing you can hit a button labeled next and navigate to a statistics screen that will show your hit percentages!

    Regarding the P-39 as I was writing about it previously... I was highlighting the mod I did for the earlier models, up to the N, and suggesting you compare that against the later models to see the differences. (The early models looked very similar to the later, sharing many textures, and I added some new 3D elements.)

      @@Iceman42nd I mistakenly thought BAT had adopted my P-39 cockpit not too long after my Wildcat cockpit was incorporated. But it turns out that, during the relatively rapid upgrade process I followed from 4.08 to 4.09 to 4.12 to BAT, I had got in the habit of porting over the PILES of mods I have been making o er the years, out of habit. And so I had overlooked the fact that my P-39 'pit was carried over before I even tried it out as spied. My bad! 😞 In one of the replies I made earlier I supplied a TH-cam link for a video made by someone who grabbed my mod. I'd recommend you check it out, to see if you might like to get it for yourself. ;)

    Try to check out the Lancaster in the object viewer. If it looks entirely magenta that means you'll need the carsmaster dlls. (I think those are the ones, but you can verify by a judicious search.)

    If a plane cannot be viewed when setting up a mission, it likely means there is some problem with the plane. And that could explain the engine being off upon spawning in the air. And some Lancasters can be problematic, potentially requiring to replace one or more .dlls to get full compatibility with hi-polygon models and or hi-def skins. You should look into the carsmaster 2017 .dlls...

    The Frontline moves in dynamic campaigns, you've just chosen one which doesn't have big front movements. Try playing the eastern front campaigns where it's really obvious.

      I do remember such things from my previous playing. I was playing the Luftwaffe career, and I had to move to another airports couple of time, just because red army pushed us back to Berlin :D

    I was about to throw shit about graphics, then I read the title, realised it's a 2005 game. I am even more surprised why I have never heard of this game until now. The level of detail...20 yrs old game. Just wow.

      It is truly amazing my man. This game is still perfect. The graphics is really bad, I have to be honest about it. But the flight model, combat model, dynamic campaign are far better than nowadays DCS. And I enjoy and prefer such things over the graphics all the time.     I'm seeing cloud shadows but no corresponding clouds above. And here I'm referring to the lower '3D' cumulus clouds as opposed to the '2D' high clouds. Have you disabled those clouds? If so, odd that their shadows should nonetheless be drawn...

    Remember that the P-40 has poor performance above about 3km or so. When you're fighting over the higher mountainous terrain, even near the ground your height above sea level is high. And yes, the drag from an external tank is accounted for. But because fuel is treated as residing in a single supply, I'm not yet sure if dropping the tank early counts toward a weight reduction. I really must get to testing that out. I can add a line of code which continuously displays the mass of fuel on screen, and see how it changes upon dropping the tank...

    I would recommend considering to install a wide field of view mod. This will reduce the number of times you lose track of a bandit. The stock wide FoV is 90 degrees. The mod allows to set 120 degrees, and perhaps more (depending on the mod.) I have my max set to 105 degrees, which is a good compromise between area of coverage and increased gnomonic distortion.

      I dont like such high FOVs, just because it makes enemies even more smaller and harder to hit.

      @@Iceman42nd You don't need to stay at the same FoV. 😉 I have my setup working in conjunction with a smooth zoom mod. I have three fixed FoV values selectable on my throtte; 30, 70 and 105 degrees. When I switch from one FoV to another the view angle smoothly varies over a period of about one-half to one second (the longer time when going from lowest to highest, and vice versa.) When lining up for a shot I almost always go from the 105 to the 70 degree FoV. If the enemy is at a distance, or is maneuvering gently, I might zoom fully to 30 degrees. This allows to more accurately snipe particular parts, and in general improves the hit rate.

    It had bugged me from my earliest days of playing (2004) that the red-out effect is brought on with just a slight negative G level. In looking at this state of affairs in Pilot.class, I discovered that merely -0.6G causes a red-out to commence! That's stupid. I can hang upside down, with -1.0G pulling on me, and never see red. And so I modded the code so as to have the neg G red-out component to commence at -1.2G (I was tempted to set it higher, but figured that for now at least, having greater than -1 is a good enough improvement.) Meaning that one can now fly inverted without the red screen effect.

    I'm no expert on dynamic campaigns. But I'm given to understand that a limited number of mission templates are used, with a certain degree of randomness applied. Hence the high degree of conparative repetitiveness in mission construction and object disposition. That's a good part of the reason I prefer so called 'static' campaigns. With each mission individually constructed or at least tuned, more variety is typically the norm.

    When your view jumps in a twitchy way when your head tracker is turned to put the view at or near the limit of the in-game panning angle, this is a clue that further adjustment of your tracker settings would be worthwhile. I have my setup such that when my head is turned to put the view at the limit, my head is physically turned such that my eyes are still looking within the screen edge without swiveling them at all. This is achieved by a combination of sitting close to the screen and having the tracker sensitivity set fairly high. My virtual head rotation is at least 15 times larger than my physical head rotation.
