Great video! It's Moelleux (mway-luh) , means soft
This is the first time I hear it poont and not punt like the football
Do you decant this wine
Hi Archer: This wine is a “beast” and can age for decades. Because of its high tannins, I would decant a young Sagrantino (under 20 years old). Decanting older wines, you run the rush of losing fruit notes. I gave another video called the Science of Aging Wine. You may want to check it out. Cheers, Dave
Very nice review. Thanx!
Absolutely love Vouvray. It's the only white I get in the summer for hanging out at the pool. A close second is Viognier. Great talk!
It adds strength in the bottom of the bottle and allows the bottom to be more stable
Fantastic work, Dave.
This is VERY useful content, thanks for including this, Dave! So glad you went up into Alto Piemonte to cover Ghemme and Gattinara. You are reminding me to put them on my winelist!
Hi Jon-Marc: Thank you again for your kind words. I love to share my wine travel & experiences and I really appreciate you recognizing that. Sante, Dave
Great overview of Valpolicella wines, Dave! Your content is superb. Been watching 3-5 videos a day and every one is a winner, sharing interesting and useful information in a compressed, relaxed, easy-to-digest format. You did great work with these brief videos.
Hi Jon-Marc: I’m so glad you like my format and content. Please share with your wine friends so we can share this beautiful world of wine. Cheers, Dave
I just opened a 2003 and it was lovely, but boy you aren't kidding wen you say tannins.
Hi Michael: Indeed it is! Thank you for tuning into my channel. Cheers, Dave
Great content, very useful. Your video script and design are always enjoyable and informative. Keep up the good work!
Great content. A lot of useful information for all levels, and a good length. Keep up the good work!
Hi Jon-Marc: Thank you for the kind words and for tuning into my channel. We’re on a little break now but I hope the 200 other varietal and regional videos will give you what you’re looking for. Sante, Dave
Excellent overview of Fiano. Really enjoying your content. Great job! Keep it up!
Hi Jon-Marc: Thank you for the kind comments. I’m glad you enjoy the channel. Cheers, Dave
To me, it aligns more to a Rioja's Garnacha without the perfume
I find Saperavi goes best with more Saperavi

We spent a weel in Alsace last year. What a great experience...Tried so many different Vinyards, each was better than the other....

Falanghina is another winner in the dry whites group.
Hi Gurgis: Thank you for the comments and for tuning into my channel. I agree, I’m quite fond of the grape too. Cheers, Dave
Thank you. Well presented.
Hi Urbane: Thank you for the kind words and for tuning into my channel. I hope you will check out some of my other 200 videos. Cheers, Dave
I had some Grechetto wine today, also from Montefalco / Umbria. Of course, that's a light dry white wine. I hope to get around to trying this bold red sometime as well.
Hi Gurgis: It’s so nice seeing you having fun on your wine journey and trying new things. You may want to check out my Orvieto video now they you found Grechetto. It another perspective on the varietal. Cheers, Dave
I just saw a bottle at the supermarket in italy and was unsure if I should give it a try! Thank you so much for the video!! I love drinking piedirosso, do you have a reccomendation?
Hi Chan: Thank you for tuning in and for being adventurous with your wine selections. Piedirossa is a small production grape. Please see my video on Lacyma Christi for more. I’ve yet to see a single varietal Piedirosso here in the US but I’m sure you can find one in Italy. Cheers, Dave
Hey Dave, thanks for taking the time to highlight all the varietals that deserve a bit more attention from the world. It was your Saperavi video that helped guide my decision to procure some cuttings from UC Davis foundational plant service, which hopefully will do well in the high altitude/cold climate of Santa Fe, NM. Thanks again for all the knowledge, and please keep doing what you're doing!
Hi Charles: Thank you, so much for the kind words and for taking this wine journey with me. I think Saperavi is a great fit for your terrior. I wish you all the best with your cultivation. Cheers, Dave
Hey Dave nice video! You were so descriptive about this particular bottle that once I’m back in the states I’ll be running to find it somewhere. Salud
Hi Nick: You will be happy you do! Hope you can find one. I know my organization is completely sold out. Good luck, Dave
Is this grape the Garnacha Tintorera, very common in Almansa, Spain?
Hi ggbr07: That is correct. When Henri Bouchet created the grape, he crossed Grenache and a family grape to make this varietal. I explain that at the beginning of the video but didn’t name Garnacha Tintorera by name. My bad. Thanks for watching. Cheers, Dave
I heard Tannat Wine is considered to be the Healthiest Wine in the World .
Hi Jason: It is certainly one of the healthiest. It has thick skins and lots of color making it one of the higher wines with respect to tannins and anthocyanin content. Of course, “the dose makes the poison” so everything in moderation. Cheers, Dave
Thanks, I'll give one of these a try. I hope the one offered at the supermarket is secco.
Hi Rabbi: Thank you for tuning into my wine channel and for taking this wine journey with me. I hope you enjoy the orange wine you buy. They can be a little odd so don’t be surprised. Cheers, Dave
Thanks for the concise explanation. I bought a Bourgogne Aligote from the supermarket (in the UK) yesterday. I hope it's nice. I usually drink Chardonnay. Chablis has become too expensive, but every now and then I go above my target price.
Hi Rabbi: They can be a little Chardonnay like but I find them charming. Enjoy, Dave
Fyi… don’t pronounce the C at the end of Blanc when saying Sauvignon Blanc. It’s incorrect and makes you lose credibility - message from a wine learner, but a French native. Thanks for the video!
Hi Vincent: Hmm, so you are saying Sauvignon Blanc is pronounced Sauvignon Blan in France? Can’t say I have ever heard that even after visiting the ancestral home of the grape in Loire or southern Bordeaux. Maybe all the vintners I met were all just humoring me, lol. I’m just glad you are exploring my channel. 200 videos strong and by far the most comprehensive source for wine knowledge on the internet. Cheers, Dave
Blanc means white in French. So it doesn’t matter if it’s in Sauvignon Blanc or le camion blanc. The c is silent in the word “blanc”. Anyway, my point was, as a beginner I’m looking for people who’s knowledge I can trust, and mispronouncing (or anglophoning it) one of the most common grapes jumped out at me. Doesn’t mean you don’t know your stuff of course. So, since you’re helping me with wine knowledge, I thought I’d give you this little tip !
Very interesting. Thanks.

Always like that you do pieces on the lesser known grapes. That said, Württemberg is not a town, but a wine growing region that unlike most German regions, focuses mainly on red wines. Additionally, Württemberg is in the state of Baden-Württemberg, not Bavaria. Baden in its own right is also a very good wine region, which in my opinion, has the best red wines in Germany!!
Hi Sean: Thank you for the great observation and elaboration. Somehow your comments got attached to my Riesling video when they probably belong with Lemberger.or Dornfelder. Either way, I’m thrilled you are exploring my channel and I wish you all the best in the new year. Cheers, Dave
@@obi-wine-kenobi Thanks, Dave! I’ll have to give the Dornfelder video a watch. Would love to see you do some more German wines, as well! And oh yeah, my comment was meant of course for the Lemberger video ;) sorry about that! All the best!
thank you. Question: if it's aged on the lees, why is there no yeasty taste like is common with some Champane
Hi Nodoubtbb: Thank you for tuning into my channel. I hope you will check out some of my other 200 videos. Great question, some Muscadet can have a yeasty or creamy taste/texture. It all depends on aging time. The reason why Champagne is more yeasty is due to the fact that it’s aged 18 months, minimum. Cheers, Dave
Congratulations on your 200th episode, Dave! It's such a cool story that five years ago you were shooting a video there in the vineyard with the very grapes that went into that bottle. I look forward to opening the bottles of 2018 De Nalys that I have laid down. I certainly appreciate the advice, information, and good conversation you give, both through the TH-cam channel and in person in your store. I will be sad when you retire from your day job, but I hope you can continue the TH-cam channel for many more reviews to come!
It’s been a pleasure to have met you and all the conversation we’ve shared. I have those lists we’ve discussed at the store and will give them to you next time we see each other. Thank you for the kind words, Cheers, Dave
Another great video Dave.....congrats on 200. Always learn something in each video. Thanks!
Hi Tom: Thanks for tuning in and exploring the beautiful world of wine with me. You are a great friend and I wish you a happy new year. Cheers, Dave
Congratulations on your milestone! That definitely looks like a wine I’d love to try. You got me at velvety! Merry Christmas!
Hi Lori: Merry Christmas and thank you for tuning in. That wine is one of many exceptional wines. Wine is a journey not a destination so stay curious. Cheers, Dave
Congratulations on 200! We really enjoy your recommendations and learned about so many new grapes. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and helping us enjoy wine even more! All the best to you in 2024!
Hi Carrie: Merry Christmas and thank you for your continued viewing. I’m going on a dry January but will pick it back up soon. Cheers, Dave
@@obi-wine-kenobi Dry January is a perfect time to do research and read about future selections! Merry Christmas and wishing you a bright 2024!
Big congratulations on your Milestone!! After learning by reading and watching educational videos like yours, tasting has been tremendous to understanding wine, particularly comparative flights. My favorite was a mini-horizontal of 2 wines from the same vintage and main grape but from its entry vs. mid-level wines. Both were very enjoyable, but the fancier one was noticeably different and more than justified the 70% price premium! Keep the awesome videos coming!!🥳🍾🍷
Hi Mickey: Merry Christmas and thank you you for tuning in. Competitive flights are so fun. Vintages, producers, bagged samples. All cause you to pause and analyze the wine. Cheers, Dave
I appreciate the videos,thank you.
Hi MJ: Merry Christmas and thank you for tuning and exploring the beautiful world of wine with me. Cheers, Dave
Another great episode! Keep up the good work👍. My wife and I met with friends in Paso Robles for wine tasting. When they turned their eyes up at the wines from Austin Hope, River Hall, Niner and other top wineries, I realized some people, sadly, are hopeless to educate on wine.
Hi Dan: Merry Christmas and thanks for watching. Paso is a great area and I did a video on that AVA a few years back. You may want to check it out. Cheers, Dave
Outstanding summation covering such important factors in creating the end product (outstanding wine). After all, it all starts with the grape. Thank you for a very well thought out video.
Hi William: Merry Christmas and thank you for tuning in and embarking on this wine journey with me. Cheers, Dave
Another great introduction to a new grape! We will have to seek it out next time we are in the wine store!
Hi Carrie: I’m glad to see you are adventurous and eager to try new, more obscure varietals. I think you are going to really like it. Cheers, Dave
One correction: Baden-Wurtemberg is not in Bavaria. Both are distinct "Länder" (provinces or states), and people in each area would not want to be mixed with the other. Otherwise, great video as always.
Hi Frederic: Thank you for the clarification. I really appreciate the insight and your loyalty to my channel. Cheers, Dave
I love Friulano. Great video, you perfectly described the beautiful complexity of this varietal. I also like your food pairing idea, but as you said at the end it works really well with chicken, the same way as a Burgundy would. I also found it fantastic with turkey. One way to surprise your friends and family at Thanksgiving next year!
Hi Frederic: Funny you say that. I served Friulano and Inzolia with my turkey this year. Great minds think alike. Thanks for watching. Cheers, Dave
Thank you
Hi Star: Thank you for tuning into my channel and for taking your wine journey with me. Cheers, Dave
Are you in Saint Croix or do you still have your home in Jefferson Hills my friend? Greg Hyrcza
Hi Greg: It’s been quite a journey. We sold our house in JH in 2019, moved to STX in 2020, back in 2021 and we are planning our next step. I’m retiring in July so it’s wide open. Glad to see you are still with me on my wine channel. My number is still the same. Cheers, Dave
Do you know where to find the Old version of thw muscatel wine. Or a version of the the muscatel one that tastes the same. Running out of my last gallon used for old family baking recipe.
Hi Marianne: I have not see the old fortified version of Moscatel for some time. It has really fallen out of favor with wine consumers. Maybe ask at your local wine store. Cheers, Dave
@@obi-wine-kenobi thanks Dave for the info. I made these cookies using that wine when I was 8 years old. I have been making them for many many years now for my mom who will be 95 and the rest of my family. I hope I will be able at least to find something that will work when I run out. Marianne
