Indeed, in a country like Gambia with just about 1 million adults, the population of those with disposable income could be challenging, all businesses compete for the same local wallets and the occasional tourist wallet. Hence sometimes returnees may need to consider more populated countries with bigger markets to start or export facing goods/services.

My sister, it's nice to see you and the videos you share about your new transition. I respect your thoughts always. However, on a different note, isn't it how we as a culture are, Diaspora, or not? We would support other cultures to excellence and growth but shamelessly neglected to support our own. The question I asked myself many times, why? Who gave us the "crab in a bucket" mentality and told us it's the right thing to do? We hate to see our own thrive, or even if we give minimal support, we don't want to see our people excell further than ourselves. We are our worst enemy, and then we turned around and blamed others. I love your point of view, about lending services to others in whatever field of expertise we're in. I never thought Black Americans would b met at n Africa with all the bad blood that greets them in Africa. I'm in two minds about the whole filiming scenario. We must remember that it's a cultural thing. I'm from the west and i absolutely hate the fact that everywhere i go, from the moment i step outside my door, you will encounter people filming. 15 years ago this was not the case. Being on the continent right now, i actually enjoy going about my business day to day without having to dodge somesones camera because they are doing a YT/ TikTok video. I personally find it intrusive. It's not just Gambia, I've visited other African countries and they don't want to appear on peoples videos either. I tend to just enjoy the moment and not want to appear too touristy anyway so don't feel the need to film every little thing. Just because it's the done thing in some parts of the world, doesn't mean it should just be accepted wherever you go.

I have been here for almost 5 months and I'm nervous about driving here too but I know I have to start driving myself.
