We just bought a loaded '22 R/T for my wife. We didn't even get it home. The dealer had installed all-new rotors and pads. Ok, great! But they definitely didn't torque or thread lock the caliper bolts on at least one, but probably all four wheels as the LR caliper from all visual evidence has one bolt and began to swing and grind into the outer lip of the rotor. Very fixable. No one hurt. I'm not worried so long as they honor their tech's errors. But yes.... as one who only lets others work on my cars if I am half dead.... never trust the dealer. A lesson learned over and over. I just feel bad for my wife who was very excited to pick the truck up. She does not have any mechanical background so thinks it is broken voodoo and is anxious. Tomorrow morning is the first time I get to talk to the Service guys about getting it towed / fixed. Rotor / Pads / Caliper / Caliper Bolts / Caliper Bracket / possibly even the knuckled if the solo bolt wobbled in the hole.... they're going to ream some tech for this one. That's an easy $1500 on top of the $3000 they already put into it. Ouch.

I come from a more performance based mod background but appreciate the 'run what you brung' mentality and making it your own. What is the more populated forum for these SUVs? I'm on DDnet but it is a ghost town in there. Is there a better source for info and mods?

I know this repair will be expensive, but while you’re at the gearbox, the flex plates on these things are located very close and can crack/ break and cause catastrophic damage if it decides to while driving. The flex plate itself isn’t overly expensive, and while the gearbox is removed it may be worthwhile considering checking it to avoid a potential disaster. Rs5 owner for 5 years from Northern Ireland here.

Sucks so much but some of the 2013 models had the gen 1 DSG which still had DSG issues. What's the build date on your car? Also, it's reasons like these why I'd be hesitant to buy one without extended warranty even if it's from a 3rd party.

And...my interest in owning one of these cars is gone

2013 Audi RS5 owner here from Toronto. Last year if I accelerated quickly going over 3200RPMs or so, I would get a message saying, “Transmission overheating, please drive conservatively.” It was on extended warranty from Lubrico. Lubrico sent me to three different shops near me and they said they can’t work on the car. It’s a very specific engine. One recommended I get a whole new mechatronic and transmission unit that would cost $15k. But he was just trying to upsell me to his buddy who rebuilds transmissions. Eventually Lubrico told me I can go to Audi, or find a licensed mechanic myself they can approve. I took it to a mechanic who only works on Audi/VW. He replaced the clutches because they were burned out and overheating. Costed about $2700. Warranty covered most of it. He said IF the problem continues, then we’d look into replacing the transmission CPU. But that would be about $3-$5k depending on how much he can get through parts for. Glad to say that has never been an issue since. Hoping it won’t be moving forward. Advice: find a reliable mechanic who actually knows how to work on B8.5 RS5. They’re so rare and it’s difficult to find competent mechanics and parts for them. The 2013-14 models like ours are the ones unfortunately with transmission issues. But I always loved this car and I got mine with no accidents in the trim I wanted. Couldn’t say no.

This is where I think car manufacturers especially higher end ones where you are paying a premium already should really cover certain things like this even out of warranty or at least for more of an extended period. The car is 11 years old, not 20+ years old. To me this is a design failure and anything that is attributed to that should either be fixed or at least subsidised with a heavy discount. $7K+ is ludicrous for something that is a known issue to Audi.

Had similar problem with my rs5 mine was the driver position sensor in the transmission which would shift my car into neutral when I'd slow down ( verry dangerous when trying to turn through a Boulevard) it costed me 8k cause they gotta remove everything and change the seals, oils, gaskets etc

lol typical Audi. I’m on my third Audi and it’s always something with these cars. Thought I got around the issues with a lower mileage Rs5. Had peace of mind. Then one day while cruising I got the dreaded “transmission overheating. You may continue driving” warning. Very similar to this one. Also a “known” issue. It’s in the shop as we speak but it ended up just needing a mechatronics replacement and that’s about a $3500 job WITH a discount. Idk man. If after this I get some more bullshit I may just go to a different platform. I really want to love and take care of these cars but they are a literal glass canon

I’m going through the same thing . I have a 2015 rs5 same issue but worse.My mechanic found metal shaving inside the transmission. Can we rebuild the transmission of course but some of the parts they are not able to get. Ok let’s get another transmission guess what? None in USA or Canada I got one from Germany 1 full month and not here yet. Price $12000+ $7000 for a 30000 miles new $13000 from Audi rebuild as well. $4500+ in labor the price is going up does not go down. I love the car I’m keeping the car until the wheels fall off. No extended warranty. Everything is coming out of pocket. They wanted $10000 for one. Now is too late to get one.

Had a 2010 S5 V8 back in the day. About to pull the trigger on pristine 2015 RS5, same color, black optics. Pumped to have a V8 coupe again!

Had the same issue on my S5... replaced it for about +/- 2k usd equivalent in my local currency... Car is driving like a peach now... thanks for the videos 📹

7k is more than replacing the transmission, they are playing you

maybe search for vag gearbox specialist? I'm from europe, and there are many many many DSG vag specialist, and my mechatronic replacement cost was about 2-2,5k $ , some people said gearbox ecu software upgrade helped them, but it was not in my case. i had to sell my rs5 b8 due to covid but b9 is on the way, maybe next year? fingers crossed, cheers enjoy that glorious V8

I agree with you on the comfort vs dynamic modes for dailying... Comfort works better for the day to day driving... i normally use Dynamic on the weekends when the roads are more open! Great video!!! 👍

This will be my next car! Had a 16 scat pack challenger 6 speed manual. And a 17 5.0 mustang 6 speed manual. Miss having a weekend car!

When you first start the car it is always in auto mode even if it says dynamic. You have to cycle back to dynamic mode, it's easy to tell because if the car's not in sport it's not in dynamic.
