Overflight of Boone NC approaching from Blowing Rock. Quick circle over town then departing to the North. Note, wherever you see brown, like the big parking lot around the mall, that is where the water went. It looks like the water treatment plant was not underwater. What a beautiful flight.
Thank you. The Appalachian mountains are a lovely place to fly.
Great video ....I ran them places in my youth...
We saw this frosty top in person
Is that a quarry, strip mining?
Stone quarry.
For strip mines see my video of Southern West Virginia airpot
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
I find it disgusting that this facility is owned by someone that's making a killing off of the inmates loved ones. For instance the commisary is outrageously priced along with phone calls. To get a tylenol its around 15 dollars. All the communistwealths jails and prisons are privatized. There is a quota of inmates that has to be met or the communist state has to pay a penalty or for inmates that don't exist. If you don't think that this affects laws or has completely corrupted the judicial system in this beautiful yet tyrannical state then go back to sleep. Lobbying and the fed stole your vote and representatives many years ago America.
I agree that private prisons are an abomination. I have no reason to doubt you about commissary prices too. However, This facility is owned and oerated by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Remember that the next election day.
Your videos are just mesmerizing. You've also made public my fishing spot, so, thanks for that.
Thank you. I miss being there so much.
That's a pretty lake and area.
Beautiful!!
Very nice video and beautiful landscape ! Great drone footage 👏 Done myself few drone videos for my travel channel if you want to have a look at it.......thank you! New SUBSCRIBER
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed this video. This is not shot from a drone. This is a certificated aircraft and flown higher and faster than drones should.
Hi! Didn't realise it's not a drone! Anyway...great footage! Hope you gonna check my work as well, same platform! Cheers!
Can confirm Boone is "hit or miss" in terms of damage, some people are in pretty good shape, other people are cut off from the rest of the world. On the whole, Boone is in better shape than other places in the area, unless you are one of those people whose sole route of access is gone.
Nice footage. Really need a zoom and play-by-play. It looks fine to me. Need someone to help me interpret what I'm seeing.
Compare the streets of black/gray to the brown. Pause the video at 2:01, note the large building with the brown parking lot. Compare that pavement to the parking lot towards the bottom edge of the screen. The mall was flooded, the other building was not. I like to fly, I am much less inclined to learn how to edit video. Sorry.
Thanks for the beautiful views. Love the place and live close by but didn't get hit as bad as other areas.
Amazing view. Wow
The altitude of the mountains showed how destructive water confined can be.
Looks beautiful that’s for sure
Well im confused. If this was to show devastated areas it didnt work. All the built up areas look normal. I didn't see one broken road at all. No piles of debris no piles of cars or homes, none of the newly formed rivers where roads used to be. Really, i didnt see anything at all that resembled the kind of damage we are seeing on ground. At 9 min there was a town that may have looked like it was in disarray. I think narration was needed. I watched this on my phone then went to computer hoping larger screen showed something. It didnt. Are you flying by the hard hit areas? Still I did appreciate the view of the fly by. Seeing arial shots of mountain towns is a rare view. Such a beautiful area. Thanks for the vid.
The FAA mandates a minimum safe altitude. A careful review of the video, and perhaps pausing, will show several mobile homes washed away as well as how half of the town streets are earth toned as they are covered with mud.
Its not going to look like a wasteland overall. The washed out areas are in the valley floor where all the water funneled into the rivers and creeks. This impacts some town centers and many main routes that follow rivers and thus get washed out. The immediate problem is if you can't get in or out with a normal vehicle. Once they fill in the blown out road sections aide will flow and repairs start.
0:40 - You can see several brown areas at the bottom-left, this shows how badly the creek had overflown. This is US 421 in downtown Mountain City. 0:55 - Same as before, this is N. Church Street, Mountain City. 1:17 - Same as before, this is still N. Church Street, Mountain City. It continues on for several seconds until he banks left. 3:40 - Bottom center, the intersection of Highway 91 N and Gentry's Creek Road. You can clearly see how badly the creek overflowed here. It left Gentry's Creek Road borderline impassable. 4:05 - As we continue northbound following Highway 91, you can see a bit more substantial damage on the left side of the highway. This is also where some of the major damage to the roadway began, as 91 directly parallels a major waterway from Laurel Bloomery to Damascus. 4:50 - You can very clearly see parts of the extensive damage done to Highway 91 in the bottom of the screen. 5:20 - Again, it is so clear that there's been a lot of damage to the property lining the creek. I don't see how you can say you never saw anything. 5:35 - Bottom left. This was a trailer park with more than a few homes located there. It's entirely gone. All of it washed downstream. If you look closely, you can see the debris and follow the creek all the way to where one of the many bridges were also washed out. 5:48 - Bottom left. You can clearly see the aforementioned bridge. 5:53 - Wide area at bottom-center. You can once again clearly see extensive flood damage and debris, yet again disproving your claim that you "really didn't see anything at all that resembled the kind of damage we are seeing on the ground." 8:50 - The "town that looked like it was in disarray", as you so eloquently put it, is the same exact town that you just saw less than three minutes ago, in the same exact condition as it was then. Much more than simply "disarray." Also, again at this timestamp you can see the remnants of the aforementioned trailer park that was entirely demolished. Your comment is ridiculous. "If this was to show devastated areas, it didn't work." ..... Yes it did. If you would look closely enough, you would see. "I didn't see one broken road at all." ..... Yes you did. I even timestamped it for you. There are several. "No piles of debris no piles of cars or homes" ..... Yes, there are several. Again, if you would look closely enough, you would see. "none of the newly formed rivers where roads used to be." ..... See, that's the funny thing. When the water recedes, the "newly formed rivers" do as well. The water is gone, and all that it left was destruction. "I watched this on my phone then went to computer hoping larger screen showed something." ..... I watched this on my phone and had no problems finding every single thing that I have written in this comment. "It didn't." ..... Yes, it would have, had you looked closely. "Are you flying by the hard hit areas?" ..... I'm not the poster, obviously, but yes, yes the pilot is flying by hard hit areas. Hope my comment helps you see what is very clearly displayed in this video.
Looks pristine that high up
The FAA mandates a minimum safe altitude over "congested areas" I couldn't get much lower without violating the regs.
This was a waste of my time 🥱😤
Happy to help.
Then why did you watch it ?
I thought i broke mine Thanks
It took me a couple weeks to sort this out. Glad you got it taken care of.
You might want to change the name it's much more. Thank you.
What would you suggest as a change?

Glad you’re ok!
Yeah. I probably wasn't as alarmed as I should have been. My oil over flow vent was obstructed and oil was spraying on the exhaust. So, some smoke but no fire. Cleared the obstruction and things were fine.
Nice video. Thanks for posting
Thank you. Things in the cockpit were quite exciting, turned out to be a bit of oil on the manifold.
This is great, I love when you cross I-77
Thank you. Flying around Appalachia is lovely.
Beautifully rugged terrain. But I'm a flatlander, I like the option of Landing in a field or dirt road
Off airport landings can be a daunting consideration around here. As you can see there are options and more with greater altitude. It is still a stunning place to fly. Thanks for the comment.
Nice video - TY for sharing. Looks like bear country down below.
