In which I start out doing my best ?uestlove impression, then venture toward sounding like myself, then back to ?uestlove again, and also make funny faces and speed up indefensibly over the course of two and a half minutes.

Billy Ward Tour of Jazz Drummers
มุมมอง 272K16 ปีที่แล้ว
Drummer Billy Ward expatiates on the development of jazz drumming, with demonstrations of the technique of the major icons of the style. From "Voices in My Head." Fantastically informative and fun! I posted this video out of pure admiration; hopefully it will encourage more people to buy the DVD. www.billyward.com

Seeing Gary Novak in the audience is nuts
Billy is such an underrate drummer - which in my opinion Is top notch - I remember purchasing modern drummer magazines because of his articles in the early 2000’s.
Gene Krupa was the first with the hihat, but of course that isn't PC.
Wonderful player and his kit always sounds incredible.
Thomas Lang is wearing a disguise with hat and glasses in the audience.
This is so cool and awesome
This is how i talk sexy to my wife for kinky night hahaha
He's just amazing.
He's a little more than a lot better than me. Think infinity.
Billy has such great taste
1:17 that is the coolest groove almost sounds like whiskers...
I think he is the only drummer to demonstrate Elvin and get closer than all the others.
I want more!
Fantastic.
Is this the same guy who played with Black Sabbath?
Philip Acinapuro I used to think the same thing! But No, that was English Drummer Bill Ward, different guy from Billy
Great stuff Billy!
that snare sounds AMAZING!!!
The only bummer about this video is that its not long enough and we didn't get to see him demonstrate more cats
i think Gary Novak is in the audience
Guy is gr8!
Billy I love your style and approach..its so addictive..your tone choice..cymbal choice..FUKIN awesome drummer..we need more billy ward..another dvd is due man..cmon.
His Elvin impression is super awesome.
Love this guy!
Those Glitches are GREAT!!! reminds me of Autechre! Big Up!!
I watch this video from time to time and now it's full of glitches. How do you get it fixed?
I watch this video for inspiration from time to time, and now it's all fucked up. How do you get it fixed?
Damn glitch.
A joy to watch
Any one else getting glitches?
What's up with this video ?
wow he's so talented!
Nice :-)
jazz drumming is one of a kind, just shows each genre of genre is extremely hard and have their own hard parts to fill. Im mostly a metal drummer but jazz has taught me a lot of great fills and grooves and its great to not limit your playing style and throw different elements in.:)
My only complaint: Papa didn't really begin moving to the ride cymbal until after Kenny Clarke showed up in the bebop scene. Papa checked Kenny playing the ride, and decided to do that as well. Kenny moved to Europe shortly after all that, so Papa is often credited for that, but really it should go to Kenny Clarke (not to mention that this is arguable, but thats what I've been told many times by many different cats).
Brushes just appeared in his hand
Obvious troll is obvious.
LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE! LOVE this fucking video. :)
With you there, buddy. I LOVE metal but I also love and adore jazz drummers. I'm actually getting into jazz, hence why I'm here. ^~^
05:08 .. FUCCCKKK
what ride is this? anyone knows? i just love the sound of that <3
And then to demonstrate Buddy Rich he would smash everything.
Excellent, a journey through time. I played a lot as a younger guy, then came the day job, but only for about 25 years. I'm retired now and have a room dedicated to a Yamaha electric set and I would like to get good. At age 65 I hope it's not a pipe dream. Back then in the 60's, 70's we didn't have the internet. What a tremendous resource. Thank you for taking the time
Buy his DVD you wont regret it. I did'nt like Elvin Jones the first time I heard him on youtube, but now that he explains it, I now see what Elvin's playing is all about and so are the other drummers' style. And the more I understand that I have a long journey ahead of me.
nicko mcbrain plays with the jazz feeling except in rock
1:32 suddenly...BRUSHES!!
Little is known about Samuelson before he joined Megadeth. It is known that he and Chris Poland played in a jazz fusion band called The New Yorkers, and that before this, both practiced and played together for many years.
