3 Days in Kyoto! || Travelling in Asia
Hi, my name is Emily and I recently moved to South Korea! I am an EPIK teacher placed in Daegu, South Korea, and I love sharing my little adventures here on TH-cam. This January, I finally got the chance to visit Japan! In this video I spent 3 days in Kyoto with a day trip to Nara to visit the bowing deer. In Kyoto I visited a temple, a shrine, and ate plenty of gyoza. I hope you enjoy this video!

    Hi Emily! How much do you recommend saving for the move? Do you get paid the first month? I did NALCAP in Spain and am considering this next as well. Thanks :)

    • @emilyabroad
      @emilyabroad ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! This could be wildly different depending on a lot of factors, but while EPIK recommends $1000, I felt safer with closer to $2000, as the cost of living here is quite high and I wanted to have fun in my first month without worrying too much. Like NALCAP, you should get paid at the end of your first month if you have a bank account open by then. Let me know if you have an other questions and I'll be happy to share my experience!

      @@emilyabroad thanks so much! I am also curious what TEFL course you recommend? I know part in-person is recommended, but I'm also wondering which TEFL programs look the best because there are so many. Does it matter??

    • @emilyabroad
      @emilyabroad ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stephaniealton8063 Unfortunately I don't have any specific recommendations for TEFL course companies, but I don't think where you get it matters too much as long as they're legit. My only recommendations are to make sure you have the in-person practice component and that it matches the requirements of any countries you might want to teach in in the future. When I joined EPIK, the practical experience part was a requirement for Busan placements, even if you had teaching experience like NALCAP, so I would definitely recommend checking requirements like that. I hope this helps!

    Good review, I'm currently staying here and there are more things that I would add on for criticism. For example, sometimes when you turn on the bathroom taps to wash your hands it smells really bad (don't know why). Also, the room lights on the panel sometimes turned on and off randomly for me as if someone else was controlling them. Moreover, the capsules don't lock from the outside (I dont know if this is normal for capsules but I didn't know this before)

    • @emilyabroad
      @emilyabroad 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, wow, thank you for sharing some updates! I didn't have any issues with the water or the lights when I was there, but that was in February so there's plenty of time for things to change. I did have the same issue with the capsule not locking, but I'm used to hostel bunk beds, so it didn't feel much different when I had to put my valuables in the locker while I was out. I hope the rest of your trip was better!

    Hi Emily, is it easy for a non Spanish speaker to about the city?

    • @emilyabroad
      @emilyabroad 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As a spanish speaker myself, it's hard to say, but I don't believe it would be too difficult. Most of the popular destinations have tours in english and often times there are restaurants by those sites that have english on their menus. In general, I always recommend studying basic phrases and their responses (ie 'Where's the bathroom?' 'In the corner on the left.') and especially memorizing the words for anything you're allergic to or won't eat.

    Good video! Thanks to the author of the channel for this fascinating video! It is interesting to see how people live in other countries! It is very important to know foreign languages on such trips. I would like to recommend to all travelers a practical guide to learning foreign languages by Yuriy Ivantsiv " Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages". This book contains a lot of useful tips on how to learn a foreign language for tourists, students, entrepreneurs and anyone who needs a foreign language in life. There are a lot of good tips on how to solve problems with the language from beginner to advanced level of language learning. It turns out that the traveler only needs to know a few dialogues and you can easily travel around the world! You don't have to spend a lot of time to fully learn a foreign language, you just need to learn what you can use when you travel. I wish everyone exciting travels!
