Lovely cover. We will never know now if River Phoenix might have had a real musical career as well, because he departed from his earthly life too soon. But it takes time. "Until Now" and "Standing on a Rock" were written and originally recorded by Rodney Crowell. It bugs me that so many people can walk around oblivious to what an incredibly fine songwriter and beautiful vocalist he was and still is. River could not have chosen a better person to show him about what it's like to struggle to succeed in Nashville. Even with Johnny Cash for his father-in-law (was for many years), and Johnny Cash being *still* the most beloved artist in Nashville almost 20 years after he died, Rodney Crowell has never gotten the recognition and accolade he deserves, and yet his work is constantly being played and covered by countless artists. Just listen to "Till I Gain Control Again" and look right here on TH-cam to see how many big name artists have covered that song, as just one example of his talent. I really did like Elvis, but as far as I know, he didn't write a single one of the hit songs he is famous for recording. I think all those swooning fan girls propped him up a lot.
