I’ve been doing photography professionally for nearly a decade. I’ve shot everything from weddings to festivals, traveled to some amazing places, and worked with all kinds of people along the way.
Over the years, I’ve picked up a lot-not just about cameras and gear, but about running a photography business and staying creative when the pressure’s on. There’s so much noise out there about what you “need” to succeed, and honestly, I think a lot of it’s rubbish.
Here, I’ll share what I’ve learned-the gear I use, the myths I think are worth busting, and the honest truth about making photography work for you, whether it’s as a hobby or a career.
If you’re into real talk about photography, with a bit of banter thrown in, you’re in the right place. Cheers for stopping by, and I hope you stick around!

Why Digicams Slap
มุมมอง 4.6Kวันที่ผ่านมา
Why are digicams so popular? I'm obsessed with this tiny 2007 point and shoot. Meet the Canon SD1000 (aka the IXUS 70). In this video, I’ll show you why I can’t seem to put it down. This little camera is pure nostalgia with its classic CCD sensor, retro vibes, and a design so small it fits in a box of playing cards. It’s perfect for street photography, parties, or just ditching your phone for a...

I would say the images look flat on the phone/pc if they are raw files. The camera will look more vibrant as it’s a preview image
That's a good point, but even if you shoot jpeg they're quite flat... i reckon canon has tuned the screen display settings to make images appear more vibrant than they actually are...
nah i want that alpha 1 so bad
I came across my old one of these tidying this morning!
They're worth like 150 bucks these days 😂
@julian_giambelluca no...?
The crummy muzak adds nothing and distracts.
Thank you for your feedback. Would you have preferred different music or no music?
@julian_giambelluca ,No muzak. The top TH-camrs don't use muzak as a rule.
Great video :) A little tips for getting a bit better contrast and more vibrant colors straight out of camera, is underexposing by -0.3 to -1 (depending on the camera, and the scene) Well, at least that's what I often do with my Sony DSC-W50 from 2006 :)
Yeah 100%! helps keep the highlights in check so it doesn't look so "digital". I literally always have it set up to -0.3. Though I have to say being able to shoot raw with the hack is amazing. You can get some wild results.
@@julian_giambelluca Yeah, that's true :) And, as you mentioned, being able to use AI denoise can be a great help too, not only in nightshots, but if you have to use high shutter speeds :)
Project X Party Look 💀 I swear I'm not that old that movie was only like 10 years ago!
I just found your channel today and I'm enjoying your content. I was a magazine shooter back in the film days and when digital dslr's were 2-4 megapixels. I just started shooting again after a couple decade break. Keep up the good work. 👍
Thank you man happy to hear that! What did you do instead for the last 20 years?
I worked other jobs and had other hobbies. This year I felt it was time to come back. Luckily, all the gear I used back then and even the DSLR's are pretty cheap nowadays. 📸
love the video
i literally bought one the day this video is uploaded. i cant put it down now lol
Really glad you're enjoying it!
👍
Bro it’s a camera who cares what sound it males
I regret not buying a couple of fujis x100 when they are 100ish euros
I feel that... I tried one the other day and I loved it... tempted to get an x100f or something one day. The xt-3 is an underrated bargain at the moment though! it does 4k 60 and with a pancake lens it's quite small.
@@julian_giambelluca Since you like the ixus, maybe you can find a fuji xf10 for cheap. And yes, the xt series is amazing, but by far my favorite is the xe2
Excellent👌
There are so many cameras like this, is it popular because of that one video?
I'm sure there are other factors involved, but that video got like 750k views so it definetely helped!
this vid is amazing man, real film making is alive! also there is no way you made a canon cigarette box, that’s mental
Nah for real thank you. Yeah I made that box to avoid getting flagged hahaha, makes for a cool party trick too lol
@ hahah respect bro i’m definitely doing that for my powershot you’re a genius. i was also interested in what inspired you with the cropping in throughout the video because it adds so much character i love it. reminds me of some golf le fleur adds by tyler the creator with the contrasting framing, especially with that warm aesthetic over all. can’t wait to catch more content boss
So I actually had two cameras setup side by side and I cut between them. I did it to get close up details and to help cover up cuts in the editing. Really happy to hear you notice the little details though. I think i know the advert you're on about the one with the bus crash, that one was soo good.
This vid goes hard 🙌✨✨
Haha! I had an Ixus50, and recently my teenage daughter has become interested in it. I didn't understand why until now.
There's a trend among gen z to use CCD camera, so yeah
👌👏🤩
🔥🔥
Stay true to your values and you’ll have a huge audience in 12 months. Keep it up.
🫡 Really appreciate it, thank you
Great job, Julian 🎉
Thank you ☺️
Any digital camera made after 2010 is good enough, or any SLR since the 60th for that matter. It's a no-brainer. Lighting and lenses make all the difference, and even if you can buy a good lens, you still need to learn about lighting. In the end, it's called photo-graphy for a very good reason.
I can't believe how cheap second hand lenses are for this camera! It really is a no brainer...
@@julian_giambelluca yes you're right. Serious professional lenses like those with the gold ring of Nikon or L-series of Canon still cost a bunch of money, but they're gradually becoming more aprocheable
5D mark II and 50mm f/1.8 STM is my daily. From what I understand it's the last Canon camera to use the old color science; this camera and the 5D classic just look difference, even compared to the mark III and mark IV. It's a great choice, I'm glad I picked up one. On another note, how do you only have 26 subscribers? Your editing and the overall quality of this video is on point. Keep up the great work!
What a great combo! I would go 5D classic but it doesn't do video, and honestly i'm obsessed with the video from this camera because it just makes everything look like movie. I've only just started my channel but I've watched every tutorial under the sun hahaha thank you so much!
Damn, I was so surprised when I saw you have only 26 subscribers. The quality of the video - editing, information, value - you deserve much more
That's a hella compliment, thank you so much!
You did all the editing yourself? Good job. You've taken all the good stuff from the tech youtubers.
Yeah, I did, thank you so much! It took ages but I'm so glad it paid off!
You would also get the Celebration of Heung Min Son
😂 had to google that hahahha
Cool video idea.
Glad you enjoyed it :)
No “pro” would say this camera is boring
Agreed! but i bet all the "cool" kids probably wouldn't touch it unless it was mirrorless and did 4k 60 lol
nice video man keep grinding
Thank you means a lot!
It’s Canon 5D mkII 🎉
