Flounder fishing in the Puget Sound! (PB and Catch&Cook)
What were the tides? High/low/slack?
2:43 is not a stagghorn sculpin. It’s a buffalo sculpin. Still cool nontheless
14:30 looks like maybe a buffalo sculpin to me.
Sick video dude!
Quality fish! You've got the golden touch. IMHO = I'd fight the fish till vanquished before I reach for the net. I don't know how you fight a fish, shoot video, and hold a net in your hand all at the same time. Are you hiding a third arm????
I’ve caught a 3 pound stag horn off the dock
what weight rod you using just curious looked big
Kids have a blast catching those shore species. Try going to a river mouth and you might get into some searun cutthroat trout. Those are a blast on light fly gear.
That was a buffalo sculpin. The staghorn is the second one you caught in the video. The spine's are not poisonous.
amazing, I've been looking for videos like these for a long time. I have recently started fishing in river mouth areas in northern Spain. I was determined to buy a 250grains opst line and you just convinced me by watching your videos. I fish with a 9.6", 7Wt rod. Can you also do overhead casting with the opst line or would it be dangerous? Greetings from Spain and good fishing.
Is this OPST setup? What line wt you using, and is that a switch rod? I'm looking to setup something like yours.
Damn that's hard to watch...
Would be cool to fish with yah! I’m in Tacoma for the summer!
I’ve eaten buffalo sculpin they are similar to a catfish but the one I cut was as big as a smallmouth bass and that was about two or three years ago five years ago actually
Don't think I've ever seen anyone spey in the salt. Always a double haul thing.
Jacks can belong to any species of salmon. They’re basically just salmon that try to return to spawn before they’ve grown up.
I’m 2 years too late in finding this video but I like in Oak Harbor. I been trying to learn Spey since I was younger in the surf here and haven’t had much luck. Caught a pink back in 2015 on my Spey but you make me want to just fish the surf to see what I turn up
Go give ala spit a shot. SRCs dollie’s, and salmon when they’re in
I advise against fishing under the bridge. I used to fish on the other side - before the second bridge. I fished directly under as that seemed the safest. Once time kids were dropping rocks. Another time a jumper landed on the rocks about 20 feet from me. No more fishing that day. All cops and fireboat, etc. Now with two bridges you are not completely protected by being under one roadway.
I can't tell how experience you are with fly casting but I think you could use a refresher. Your line running to your left hand at an angle is ruining the power in your cast. Get your left hand up against the rod as a "home" position if you are trying to double-haul. I know exactly where you are. I caught one a bit south at Green Point wading once that was over 4 pounds - huge female. There is no easy public access there anymore but I think the Fox Island spit is some sort of park now?
Yeah it’s a shooting head so I kinda get lazy with my casting when I’m using this rig. My normal fly line I do make more of an effort to not keep my left hand still. Awesome with the green point catch!
buffalo sculpin I think
Wher is this wanting to check out more spots in the gig harbor area
Look up the state parks north of gig harbor
Very poor fish handling. Wet your hands before handling.
NIce vid. Great weather!
what leader and tippet are you using?
Sign appears; Olalla, but, where are you accessing this location in Olalla?
Tell us "Where" you are fishing!
Notellum pond

Great video, keep it up
I been catching some on topwater biggest is 19"
Heck yeah I’ve had a few chases on the Dalia squid from Timothy Bird’s channel!
@tylerdoesflyfishing7191 that's exact fly I was using slow long strips
nice fish!
That's not a Staghorn Sculpin you caught at 2.31, it's a BUFFALO SCULPIN (Enophrys Bison).. besides the two large "horns" (similar to the Bull Sculpin of California) the orange margins of the pectoral fins are the features that tell you it's a Buffalo Sculpin....
Hi There, I was wondering if you knew whether or not kelp greenling is still legal to keep in puget sound. Lingcod and Rockfish have been closed, but I'm not entirely sure where kelp greenling stands.
legal no size limit
That's not a baby Steelhead, that looks like a legit adult! Congrats!
by the way that sculpin was a buffalo sculpin, really cool colors on it tho
Nice South Sound cutty! Good for you!
I know a little creek near their that's pretty fun to fish
What kind of fly line are you using that it’s getting knotted up like that in the guides? I only ask because I want to be sure not to ever buy it.
It’s the OPST rig, commando head and Lazar running line
I would like to know more about the size and colors of your flies. Where do you buy them?
I make them myself, they are usually 4-5 inches and just the standard pink on purple. Go to Spawn Fly fish and pick up the jig shanks and beads!
catching a lingcod on the fly is badass dude!!
I care about kelp greenlings. They make awesome ling cod bait🙂 Second only to sand dabs. I need to get out after the searuns this year. Water looked beautiful!
I was going to make a run down there to fish the bridge until I checked the distance. Nearly two hours! I'll flog the water closer to home. It would even be easier to go to Neah Bay, further, but faster.
Any advice for learning to read water? I hate to say it but looking at this run of water it doesn't look distinct in any way
Dude,… you keep saying your fish are huge …. We have pike minnow her in Cali that are 30 plus inches…. Your net is not big enough
A snap swivel attached to a hook ? …. Total rookie move bro… way too much hardware …! You keep saying your are huge … haven’t seen anything huge yet…. Just sayin…..
That lingcod is average size … not huge by any standard … they get to be around 80 to 100 lbs.
Nice! Neo fly fishing is where it's at! Can't remember the last time I caught a trout, having too much fun chasing everything else. Hope to build myself a 2 hander soon and have a go in the surf.
Looked like a cab dude
Sorry… I spoke too soon about the basket… couldn’t see the basket in the beginning of the vid…
OPST Lazar line…. Nice..! I use 50lb. Lazar on my 11 and 12 wt.. I stretch the entire line in one shot and put back in my line basket or that silly looking board with silicone tines… but the line never hangs up on me … just sayin….. 😊
I can feel your joy here, too^^
Good to see someone else trying out skagit spey!
