Watch this episode as we cross the Nullarbor! Check out some of the iconic stops, the anticlimactic parts (hello, 'golf' course), and learn from our mistakes in regards to not getting your expensive fruit and vegetables taken! As always, we appreciate you watching our videos. Always happy to answer any questions about the best year of our lives!
Esperance to Norseman - We visit Lucky Bay! Australia's Number One Beach!

Wow! This has to be one of the most blue beaches in Aus! We can see why it's been voted the top beach, and even better, it's so quiet because it's just a camping type set up. Love it! Pick the right spot and you are sheltered from the wind somewhat too. We were 'lucky' enough (pardon the pun) to visit on a sunny day, which really makes the colour pop, if you can time it like that for your trip....

We’re back and can’t wait to show you the last few months of our Lap of Aus. In this episode we stay in Albany and do some great day trips to the famous Elephant Rocks and Boston Brewing. Nikki flies out and leaves us boys to our own devices as we travel from Albany to Esperance. Thank you all for the continued support.

In this episode we explore Margaret River, and man, do we rate it higher than the Barossa Valley! So much more family friendly, with almost every brewery and distillery having a playground. We stayed at Jarvis Estate and really enjoyed the vineyard vibes and the cellar door within walking distance. We also enjoyed CBCo with their aqua driving range, just a short distance away. The town of Marga...

Join us for our visit to Perth and Fremantle. This was the final capital city that we were ticking off. We can now say we've been to them all! What a beautiful city. Didn't get a whole lot of footage as the city served as an errands city for the most part, but what a cool place. Could've done without the reminder of what traffic will be like upon our return to the big smoke. Your support is tru...

We start this ep in Jurien Bay AFL field (epic playground there!) as we head to Cervantes to check out the Pinnacles. What cool natural structures they are! Then we head to the Lobster Shack for lunch - highly recommend trying to book early for their seal experience. It was fully booked but everyone we spoke to said it was epic! After checking in to Karrinyup Waters (more in the next ep on Pert...

Come along as we visit the famous Shell Beach - a beach near Denham that contains solely shells instead of sand beneath your toes. How cool is that! We then head to Wooramel Station to sample the artesian bore baths. These are 34 degree baths that go down a treat at the end of the day, with a bevvie in hand - what's better, they're open 24/7! Steep Point Western Australia - Mainland Australia's most westerly point - 4WD track from Hamelin
มุมมอง 5758 หลายเดือนก่อน
Watch this ep if you are planning a trip out to Steep Point WA, the most westerly point of mainland Australia. The trip took us 3 hours each way, and most certainly requires a 4WD as the road is full of corrugations, undulations and soft sand. Although we did not get our maxtrax off the roof, all vehicles will need to lower their tyre pressure to gain access to Steep Point without becoming stuc...

In this ep, we start with some sorrow after the Broncos lost the NRL grand final. It added salt in the wounds when staying at 14 Mile Campground with the most amazing blue water, but insane winds! So much so that we had to move back behind the sand dunes to even watch the footy! We then headed to Carnarvon Space Museum. Highly recommend for those with and without children. too much "uuuumhh"- less Y62 specs... no man!!!
Thanks mate, could the dish be mounted on the van via a moveable bracket. And do you need so much cable? Thanks and happy travels
to get the fish up the cliff face we use a cliff gaff also named a flying gaff, its big hooks that are attached to a rope and it attaches to your fishing line and it slides down the line over the fish the gaff has 3 sometimes 4 like grappling hooks which catches into the fish then you pull the gaff up with the rope the rope takes all the weight of the fish, about 100 metres around the corner from the oven is a slightly lower section which you can use pole gaffs
Great suggestion. Hard though but worth giving it a shot
mine gets 21.8l per 100 towing 3459kgs consistantly
wow a true fuel summary thanks
MS
Hey there Just letting you know I get consistently 16.9 in my Y62. We only tow a camper trailer around 1.8 tonne so that would make a difference but that’s what we run . One thing is I don’t have larger tyres which I think makes a massive difference.
Have fun miss
Thanks for not bullshiting most guys do
You’re welcome mate
Nice family have fun!😊
Thanks guys
HI MISS ITS CHRIS

Hi. Do you mind me asking how the black sink, taps and shower are after the years usage? Have they scratched? Are they easy to keep clean? Thanks
Hi sorry for the late reply. Black tap where has been great no scratches in the sink and easy to keep clean. Will get it again in a new van 👍
How heavy is your caravan bud
Hi mate comes in at 3380 loaded I believe
What a beautiful world!
Great video, will have to keep camping in the vineyards as an option. Happy to keep watching you check out breweries 😂 but you might have to check out some distilleries as well.
Thanks guys will add some distilleries to the list 😂
We have just received our Starlink but haven't set it up yet. We are looking forward to starting off on our adventures 😊
Hope you enjoy it!
Doing the Aussie salute a bit with all those flies.
😛 I haven’t heard of that before but so true 😂
I found using cruise control I got better economy. I was very surprised as using cruise control in my previous vehicles (prado’s) cruise control was shocking but the patrol seems to be better in selecting the right gear etc with out using manual mode like I did in the prado’s.
Thanks for the tip guys will give it a go!
We are full time on the road with a 2020 Y62. Towing a 3050KG 23' van. On this current trip weve done 3800 km's and average is 23.7/100. Im very happy and comfortable with that. I try ti use 95 ron where i can, but in the NT is either 91 or 98. Ive got a rack but not much on it right now. Tyres are the same set up, just more aggressive tyres 265's Maxxis. Stiffer rear springs by Dash off road. Im running an ARB Summit bar so a little extra weight there. Over all its a beautiful car to tow with and its effortless . Love the vids
Thanks for the support mate! Loving our setup wouldn’t change it for the world. Sound like you have a great setup too. 🤙
Hey Greg, did you have to do a GVM upgrade to your Patrol at all for the towball weight?
Does the modem get overheated in the bag? Also how much power is it using during connection in an off grid situation? Great vid 👍🏼
Hey guys! The modem definitely gets hot but has never had any issues, the Starlink in off grid situation normally uses about 5.5amps per hr. We normally switch it off before bed to avoid using to much power over night.
😮😂😂
You should have tickled them 😂

My old man tows a 3.3t toy hauler for work Moblie mechanic he’s on 35s an was getting around the 25 to 30L to the 100got a tune now around the 18 to 23 max goes so much better too
Oh really I should have looked into the tune a while ago. Oh well thanks for the info mate
@@birksbackyard no problem, what the next rig? Ram maybe 2500 would tow it like nothing
Keeping that one under wraps until it arrives 😉 👍
120kmphr down hill is still speeding, slow down and pick timing with winds
funny stuff wrong 4x4 mate to big to heavy wrong motor , all u trying to do is work out how to reduce fuel hehe get a dieasl !
Haha maybe next time
200 series use on par as the y62. 300 hasn’t proven itself yet although from what I’ve read they are better than the 200
If anything you’re likely hurting fuel economy by trying to keep the revs so low, the reason I say this is the engine makes its peak torque at 4000rpm. Revs don’t equate to economy, engine load does and the further you are out of its torque curve the more load you’re applying to the engine.
Oh damm I didn’t realise that thanks! In our experience unless it’s just been luck keeping it lower has worked but happy to try anything. Thanks 🙏
Honestly fuel is just fuel. I drive a petrol Territory, & get 19 lit per 100 kms around town then 12s on the highway towing nothing with a roof top tent. The main thing is your having fun so enjoy it 👍👍
Thanks mate that’s how we are looking at it.
You don't get twelve on hiway it be lucky to be 15
Thank you for visiting Japan and sharing the video! Even though there is language barrier and muggy summer, you enjoyed Tokyo Disney Land👏 I’m so glad to know it😊 Please come again in cool season😂👍
Thanks for the support! We will be back for sure! 🤙
As a fellow Y62 owner totally agree. We have the 4.2T GVM upgrade, roof rack and towing 3.3T get same L/100km measured bowser to bowser.
Thanks for the comment guys! Good to know it’s normal haha. Travel safe
Awesome guys. I did watch but was under protest ! 👍😂
Loved it!🤩 That water is crystal blue!🩵
Have been watching you guys since you drove passed my house after you left Old Macs Farm in Tasmania. Obviously you were going slow enough up the hill to read the back of your van. Keep making content 👍🏾
Oh wow! Thanks guys! Sorry about tonight’s video had a few little errors! I will get better 😂
@@birksbackyard we are heading off travelling in February for a few years and hopefully a few laps. Heading to SA first up to work and catch up with family. And as for the video, nothing wrong with artistic stills
Good luck on your travels mate! Enjoy
Put the Jerry’s at the back of the rack it will make a big difference, also buy a 4 cylinder and smaller caravan you’ll get 15ltrs per hundred but it’s not a v8 🥹
😆 very true! Great idea about the jerry cans thank you! Thanks for the the support
I have almost exact same setup as you! Just picked up van in last week but have been running 45PSI all round and 30psi in rear bags (have 4499kg GVM upgrade) as a good spot. I sat in 5th/6th gear on last trip, not sure what is most fuel economical, some suggest 5th as it keeps trans temps down. have you fitted an exhaust? Love the vids hope to see you out on the road some day!
Hey mate no exhaust fitted to this one 👍! Thanks heaps for the support give us follow on Insta and we can keep an eye out if we are ever close mate! Safe travels
Tyres obviously make a fairly big difference. Our Y62 is stock standard other than rear springs and airbags and our van weighs approx 3.3t loaded and we averaged around 22.5l/100km towing over 5,000km. On a good day, with a tail wind it dropped to just under 20, but that was a one off situation across the Barkly, so next to no hill climbs involved. We don't buy these for their fuel economy, but for their towing capability.
💯 agree! We bought it for the capabilities not the consumption! Isn’t that funny we did a 33.5L on the Barkly cause of a headwind. Thanks for watching mate
@@birksbackyard Ouch! 33.5! I've been fortunate enough to never hit 30 even. Just lucky with the weather I guess. You do learn to never over estimate your capability when it comes to distance. Maybe I'll invest in a jerry can or two for our next trip 🤔
Hard Solo's are the best, but so is karijini
