This is why I think a proper Navigational education should be mandatory passed a certain boat size. I own a 33' sailboat and a 47' power boat , and nobody asked me anything when I purchased them and insured them. Only regular driving license for car is needed. I came from France where you can't sail any kind of boat past a certain power or size without having a specific license that is not that easy to get. This skipper might be used to power boat (or not) and doesn't realize that maneuvering a sailboat is a completely different story . Understanding the prop woke and the physics of a hull as well as inertia is key is this case. Speed is not a friend and can have the opposite effect of what is desired. The prop woke can be reduced at minimum backing speed but the effect of a rudder to steer the boat baking with too much power is close to zero and the prop woke is affecting even more. Anyway I feel sorry for him, and his crew was probably not educated to help either. Thank you for sharing, it helps to educate people on what not to do and consider that a boat is evolving on a moving surface, people have a tendency to forget it.

Here's my guess- the skipper is not a sailor, but a powerboater. I think the skipper was steering with the screws only! A sailboat is an unbelievably maneuverable thing with the least bit of headway because of the rudder. There was plenty.. the least little flick of the wheel and that boat could have been pointed in any direction. Really bizarre.

Sailed with a guy like this once ... he came into the dock at speed then looked for the brake pedal. Only once.

My step father bought a power boat first. He ripped the cleats off the dock once he even ripped off the outboard. Then he decided to buy a power boat, got it stuck on a muddy bank at low tide ran the whole boat up on the bank, 3k in repairs to the engine and bottom it too the repair guy a week to flush the mud out it the engine. Then when things were running again he had a dock built at our house on the river, he ripped the dock out when he and his drunk buddies decided to go fishing early one morning ( mom wouldn’t let me go) dad said yeah he will be the only one sober in the boat to drive or dock the boat. I stopped at the Marina to buy me some sodas I took the keys with me one of the guys untied the boat so they could drift fish while I was in buy my sodas. It took the coast guard two days to find the boat with them passed out drunk in the boat. Out sea! After that mom shot holes in both boats.

Wait for the sailing school, they don't pay attention should have been Wait for the sailing school and see if you can get an application.

You got to go faster. If there's no current over the rudder the boat won't turn.

Can soneone explain me what the f*ck happened there??? We have a 33 f sailingboat and we see so many horrible things , mostly from rentboats. But this..?!?! It‘s like they were not using the steering wheel. I think many people underestimate the difficulty to “drive” a boat. We began with a little 4 meters motorboat, then a 6 meters sailboat, then a 9,95x2,95 sailboat and now a 10,05x3,45 sailboat. So we learned slowly and safely. And of course where we live we need to get a licence doing classes etc. But in general, the most important thing: first think about what you are going to do, then do things slowly(!!!), if they don’t work out just go back to the beginning and try again. When we go into the harbout and need to dock we first see how the current and the wind is and how it is going to move the boat and how we can use these powers in our advantage. Then we think about what we are going to do and how, and then slowly we do it.

This is only because in Canada and the US you do not need, by Law, any proven certification! Every Idiot can buy the largest Sail or Motorboat and just go. I've seen such things thousands of times. But I would not be quiet and still. I would tell the MALE OR FEMALE Skipper AND I would call the Police if they would damage my or any other boat. That way at least some officials AND their Insurance Company could force them to go and learn it properly, after the reklamation and payment from the insurance Company. It is completely wrong from all, to stand by and be still. Specifically since they obviousely do this each and every time. Such People belong into Jail!

The skipper and crew and cast majority are not filtered into the bank and they look like a seekion and the tanker who stopped because this is the only way to get the chance to look like this for the rest of the most.

That guy doesn't need fenders, he needs a giant inter tube surrounding the entire boat. If you want to play bumper cars go to an amusement park.
