Ride designs and ideas in the late 90's to the early 2000's were on another level for sure. I think someone else mentioned this but this period probably was the epitome of the theme park era, when there was still innovation and great ideas being thought up. John Wardley (Designer for Air and Oblivion) was on another level back then. It's a shame Air wasn't made to the original specifications due to costs. It was meant to feel like you were flying, light and airy, hence the name. The marketing for Air and Oblivion especially was great, the Queue videos with the Light Vs. Dark guy was the definition of the 90's with all the visual effects, Powerpuff girl music and videotape like, look. Whoever the director and or editor was for all that, did a smashing job, especially the waiting in line in the queue for hours on end with the Light Vs. Dark Guy videos on loop, ahead of you. I don't think that video was there when I rode it unfortunately, I think I missed the cut off for the video since I believe it was taken down at some point, but I can imagine people's anxiety, excitement and frustration at waiting in line while that guy was being eerie and mysterious. Everything now, in advertising especially, other then being simplistic and minimalistic in nature, seems to be geared towards one upping the previous ride. The hype is gone and innovation is dead. What a shame.

I feel bad for the workers listening to the music of the smiler all day I got annoyed just listening to it for an hour

My favourite old ads where the twix ones. Before norm, I remember 3 different puns. But I can't find them anywhere and no one else seems to remember them! There was one where a guy is stroking and surf board and it said something like "just the thing when you're feeling a little board" Another he was stood between 2 windmills and it said "just right between meals" And lastly, he was smashing up plant pots that where growing thyme and it said "perfect for killing time" Anyone remember them?

Interesting to see. I stopped watching TV in 2003 and left the UK in 2009.

I loved both of the 'Spec Saver' ads. We had the second one in Australia, the 'What sort of cheese....etc.,' but hadn't seen the 'Gordon Ramsay' one before - especially the chopping of the salami! Well done. I could laugh at these for ages. Never boring!

I've been trying yo find a childhood favourite of mine. It had the repeated line of. MOOORE WAAAARTERR!!! a water gun/ super soaker advert. It had more water than ever before About 25 percent more. If I remember correctly. However that was not the prime focus of the art piece. It also had the ability to teach a moral lesson to the people of the late 90s. And if you happen to be rude enough request some more water please to a waiter at a resterant there will almost certainly be an energetic child who will very effeftigky put you in your place. Truly we have been in a many layered drought of much wisened advertisements ever since.
