Replacing front wheel bearings
Replacing a front wheel bearing is a moderately advanced automotive repair task. It typically requires specific tools and mechanical know-how. Below are the general steps to replace a front wheel bearing:
Step-by-Step Guide
1. Preparation
1. Park the vehicle on a flat surface. Engage the parking brake and block the rear wheels.
2. Loosen the lug nuts slightly (don’t remove them yet).
3. Raise the vehicle with a jack and secure it with jack stands.
4. Remove the wheel by unscrewing the lug nuts completely.
2. Access the Bearing Assembly
5. Remove the brake caliper and rotor.
• Use a socket or wrench to remove the caliper bolts.
• Hang the caliper securely with a zip tie or wire (do not let it dangle by the brake hose).
• Slide off the brake rotor.
6. Remove the axle nut.
• Use a breaker bar and appropriate socket to loosen the nut. It may require significant force.
• Ensure the axle shaft moves freely within the hub by tapping it gently with a mallet.
3. Remove the Old Bearing
7. Disconnect any ABS sensors (if applicable) and ensure they are out of the way.
8. Unbolt the wheel hub assembly.
• This may involve removing a few bolts from the back of the hub.
9. Remove the bearing assembly.
• Some vehicles require a bearing puller or slide hammer to remove the hub and bearing assembly.
4. Install the New Bearing
10. Press in the new bearing using a bearing press or appropriate installation tool. Ensure it is fully seated without damaging the bearing.
11. Reattach the hub assembly.
• Secure it with the bolts you removed earlier.
5. Reassemble the Components
12. Reinstall the axle nut.
• Tighten it to the manufacturer’s specified torque.
13. Reattach the brake rotor and caliper.
• Ensure all bolts are tightened securely.
14. Reconnect any ABS sensors and confirm proper alignment.
6. Test and Finalize
15. Reinstall the wheel and tighten the lug nuts by hand.
16. Lower the vehicle and torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications in a star pattern.
17. Test the vehicle.
• Drive carefully to ensure the repair was successful and there are no unusual noises or vibrations.

I have the same car and yesterday it started running like it was in limp mode doing 40 on the interstate and then died and wouldn’t start up unless I used starting fluid, in your opinion do you think it’s the fuel pump or the relay that is bad? I’m going to replace both if I need to tomorrow but of course I’d like to replace the cheaper option if that’s what it is (relay)
Really helpful. Needed this, saved breakage and time.
Thank you very much, you made my job easyer!
Thank you for the video- I have a 2020 legacy and it was similar, but now there is a release latch , when I pull that and at the same time I lift the seat out of the socket. Able to remove the seat and install a noise dampen under the rear seat
I literally got a wrench stuff on a plug on the drivers side. I wish I knew I should be jacking the engine up. That makes a lot of sense. So much more room...
Awesome video, i have to replace mine but been waiting for a mechanic to do it. Will probably do it myself now knowing how easy it is. Good work!
Very good and informative video, thanks for sharing it definitely helped me out a lot!

What happens if you accidentally put connection wires in wrong place on fuse block? Will it cause overheating?
Still to this day this is the only and best way to properly take out the MUSB.
I recently replaced my spark plugs. I used the recommended spark plugs by most legacy owners NGK (7913) SILFR6A laser iridium’s and. Its pre-gapped .32 and its still misfiring. Does anyone know the correct gap? 2006 subaru legacy gt automatic

Useless if you cant get in the trunk!
Can this fit on a 04 legacy ?
I don’t think so, this is for an 05-09 not sure if that helps

@@brokenwrench4309 how does that work? Because in your video it was an all in one replacement with a built in screen already
That's not rear door its one of the front doors mate.
Very good video. You made it easy to fix.
Really great video sir 👍👍👍
Great walk through! Thank you !!
Thank you for a very clear and straightforward walkthrough! Mine is displaying the typical ‘hard to start after fill-up’ so I know the pump is going. ‘05 and original pump, so I’m sure it’s due. My first car was a ‘73 Vega GT. In-tank pump. I got to change my first pump ever on the side of the road in 1980 in Dripping Springs, TX in the middle of August 😂 wasn’t gonna pay $60 for a tow back to Austin! This looks like a breeze compared to that. Thanks again for a very good guide
Thank you so much you save my balls
How do you diagnose between bad alternator and this ?
Thank you
Encouraged! This was much simpler than I was expecting. Gonna try this myself this weekend. Ca you tell me what size sockets you used?
Had Firestone replace an alternator. Left the shop with all kinds of problems. No gas gauge, no RPM or speedometer, no windshield wipes, no turn signals and thats only half of the problems. Firestone said they did nothing wrong. There is a recall for my ignition switch. Do you think its worth having it replaced? Replaced computer and FCM. Didnt help. Jeep starts runs and AC works but hazard lights stay on all the time even when the engine is shut down. Have to disconnect the negative before they go off. Would appreciate your opinion. Thanks
Nice job. It's not fun holding the phone when your all dirty anyhow.
What year is this car?
2003
A bad pump or clogged pickup tube would register low pressure across the entire rpm range..not just at idle..
Not where you want to put the jack. I jack up my camry at that location the jack go right through
Why in The dark??
Thanks
Do you have the link where you purchase from Japan?
I don’t sorry! I see that the link I had before don’t work. I did this to my car so long ago. Good luck
Did you find a harness at all?
Why inThe dark?
Spray those plastic fuel line connectors with penetration oil and let it soak a few makes it easier to get off and on especially on those o rings can get messed up if there not lubed. Cool video!!! Thank you my son has a 08 trying to find out why it dies randomly when its started and put into gear may be the pump but love it when i dont have to make my own accses panel lol
Thanks for this video!
2.11 minutes video in the darkness, 1,000 better than a 32 minutes video in the sunshine ☀️ Thank you 🙏🏼 very helpful video 👍🏼👍🏼
Glad it was helpful!
Genuinely a super helpful video as it's not as straightforward as other door cards at a first glance. Thank you so much!
My 2004 Outback looks the same and no usb/bluetooth and in Australia I haven't been able to find any facia to delete the CD player and to have a Bluetooth setup. I currently have a Boom 3 external speaker and would love an in dash entertainment unit to access Spotify using bluetooth.
Ya just couldn’t do this in the daytime? 😕
No sorry about that. I have been given a lot of flak on this for that reason. That was the time I was able to install it, the cars alarm kept going off and when the part came in I took the time at night so the door was not open another day. Sorry I really did try to get a good video and angles to see what I was doing.
@@brokenwrench4309 Appreciate the response. I was able to figure it out though. I was installing new speakers in the rear doors.
This is the alternator fuse?
It’s the main fuse for the car. Don’t think it’s just for the alternator
Thanks man, some jeep owner kicked my door after he nearly caused an accident, gotta fix it ferrari style 🔨🔨
