First-Time Motorcycle Detailing: With semi professional products & equipment

I decided it was time to elevate my motorcycle detailing routine beyond the usual wash for my cherished Multistrada 950.
After thorough research on techniques and product options, I settled on a combination of Turtle Wax, WaveX, and MucOff.
For cleaning, MucOff Motorcycle Cleaner is my trusted go-to, despite having to improvise due to a faulty spray function. From Turtle Wax's Hybrid Solutions Pro Line, I utilized:
• All Wheel Cleaner & Iron Remover
• 1 & Done Professional Polishing Compound Correct & Finish
• Graphene Flex Wax
Additionally, WaveX's Coating Prep Pre-Treatment Spray proved essential.
Equipped with my Karcher Portable Oc3 Pressure Washer, fluffy microfiber towels, clay towel, MaxShine battery-driven polishing machine, application sponge, and small brush, I embarked on the detailing journey.
However, my first misstep was not starting with the wheels, where the bulk of dirt accumulates - from brake dust to road grime and chain grease.
The process began with washing, foaming, and rinsing, ideally with a foam gun, followed by the two-bucket system and a thorough rinse. Decontamination commenced with a light application of the Iron Remover, followed by clay treatment using WaveX Coating Prep spray or soapy water for lubrication, then rinsing and drying.
Polishing came next with the Maxshine MO312 V2, a new addition to my arsenal, paired with the 1 & Done Compound & Polish using a microfiber disc - effortless, dust-free, and easy to wipe off.
Finally, the Graphene Flex Wax added the finishing touch, applied with an application sponge and buffed with a fluffy microfiber cloth for a satisfyingly sleek result.
Undoubtedly, I likely made some novice mistakes along the way, but the outcome is rewarding. I'm already looking forward to perfecting my technique next time around - lessons learned and improvements to come!

    I did this change, front 14T, rear 41T and chain swap 525ZVMX2G120 (525 Series) ZVM-X2, now I have a big humming noise that is annoying, OMG, soooo annoying, I have check if this is too tight or loose, I have lubricated a lot the chain, but no, have checked everything, even the bearings, but no, I think the sprockets and chain configuration is the cause, I saw you used a front cushioned sprocket, is this helping for that noise? I am thinking to revert back to the OEM set up, what are the parts numbers you used for front and back sprocket? Do you have any noise? Mine is a MTS 1200S 2015

      @@Geocometsigg no, I am planning to end the season with this configuration, since I live in Michigan, I am winterizing from September to April, so, before start the next season I am planning to change first the front sprocket with a cushioned one, if that doesn't work, I will be back to the OEM configuration. 🤦🏻‍♂️ What about you, have you tried something?

    you do NOT change your tyre pressures because you have changed your tyres. you should run the pressure stated on your VEHICLE tyre placard. optimal pressure depends on teh bike, not the tyre.

    So I put a set on my BMW 1250 GSA. It's a 50/50 tire. You could argue 60/40. They are good in the dirt. They are good on the tight street stuff. They make a loud "HMM" noice from 75-85 mph...very obnoxious. Then I got a flat rear in the dirt in the middle of no where that was not fixable. It ripped longways in the middle, across the knobs. I was being very aggressive in the rocky terrain, so I blamed myself for pushing too hard. I got a new rear and about 600 miles later I got another flat in the middle of no where..same deal, it split in the middle...no puncture. I was not being aggressive as I was scared of a flat....it flatted anyway. Do NOT buy these tires for a big heavy adventure bike like the 1250 GSA, unless you just putt putt around. These tires suck and are a hazard. I do like the way they handle, but they are not worth getting stranded. Take my advise! Cheers!

    I have searched the web for a long time to see any failed SW Motech Street Rack & their TRAX ADV 38 L top case, couldn't find any references so I went for it. After not exceeding max capacity of 5 kilos (Apparently almost enough storage of clothes for two adults for two days.) and use by my pillion as a backrest over 1500 KMs of highway riding, there was zero flex or rattle. It didn't even budge. I'll update if anything catastrophic happens but I don't assume it will. And it is the best option if you wish to match an aluminum top case and original Ducati plastic side panniers. Plus it doubles as a wonderful platform for a duffel soft bag, which I use in combination with side panniers. Allows me to be very flexible and light when I need to be.

    How many kms finally you did on those tyres?

  • @patkennedy1
    @patkennedy1 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Those are very low pressures to run on anything but off-road Nicolai. Yes, you will get great traction on loose surfaces with 23 PSI, but that pressure will allow them to wear MUCH quicker than running higher pressures on the asphalt. Tyre wear relates to temperature, which is a function of the distortion of the tyre in use, and softer pressures allow more distortion of the tyre, and generate more heat, and therefore wear. Can I suggest you try your next tyres at Front 33 and Rear 36 PSI on the asphalt, and only the lower pressures off road? One of the small compressors now available make this easy when the road goes back to asphalt, after the off-road section. I run about 28 PSI front and 30 rear for off road, and reinflate to 30 front and 33 rear for asphalt. For long runs on asphalt I run 32 front and 35 rear, to prevent excessive tyre wear. These are close to the recommended pressures for my bike (new Honda Transalp - F 33 and R 36 recommended) but I have developed my preferred pressures on my old '95 Cagiva Elefant 750, and use similar pressures on the Honda, in spite of it being quite a bit heavier than the Elefant. (Yes, I know that sounds a bit wrong - heavier than an elephant)? If you found the low tyre pressures more comfortable, perhaps you need to soften your suspension for your use. Less spring preload, or (preferably) softer springs, rather than such low pressures. You will probably achieve far greater mileage if you alter your pressures as I have suggested. I say this after 61 years of riding, on all surfaces, and almost 50 years of Ducati devotion. Nice bike, by the way...

    Just for information, the real problem with the multi (and this is true for many ducatis, I have had several) the fuel map is badly compromised in the low rev / low throttle range. I do not have specific information on this, but my theory is that this is in order to meet EU emission regulations. I have spent a lot of time improving the fuel map on my '13 multi (1200) and it is now an absolute darling all the way down to 1700 rpm - so I can do 30 kph in 3rd gear, and 60 kph in 6th gear, absolutely smooth, and smooth roll-on from there and up. This was not easy to achieve, I have spent many, many hours finding solutions for a range of fuel problems, but it was definitely worth it. The bike is an absolute pleasure to drive, and has awesome torque from low rpm - much more than my 1260 multi. As the '13 multi uses a different ECU, I can't apply the same solution to my 1260 multi, so that one is still an absolute bitch below 2500 rpm and not great below 3000 rpm. Perhaps I will work up the courage to try to find solutions for the Bosch ECU, I haven't quite decided yet.

    • @spokewanderer
      @spokewanderer 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Or you just try a smaller front sprocket, if you are willing to spare a view km/h of top speed. One tooth down did make the trick on the 950, might work on the 1260 too...

    Trying to be as open minded as possible, it’s impossible to get excited about 150 less horsepower and 150 more pounds. Those kind of numbers mean it simply is not ready for the premier series of road racing, I’m sorry.

    • @CBCycles
      @CBCycles 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I hear you, it’s very new technology and it will absolutely improve, I just hadn’t realized the numbers were so far off, especially the weight. I am actually very excited about electric motocross bikes like the Stark Varg, it’s not very far off from the top bikes at all. And axial flux motors in something like a trials machine could be a total game changer. But the Moto-E numbers are pretty dismal, for now…

    I've had mine for a week and did my first ride of about 160Km's. When I got home I found the screw that hold the pucks onto the racks, about 20% of them were loose after just one ride. I tightened them all up again. Hopefully this will not require to be tightened after every ride. Apart from that, they are great panniers and well built. Looking forward to years of great use.
