    im looking for a way to keep my plants alive during the winters in Texas. Last yr I put my aloe vera in boxes closed up on my porch & they dies but came back fast in spring. w/o trying to save them, they dont come back, same for my geraniums. Ive lost so many plants bc of winter, I just need a place to put them in for winter then bring them out for spring. Another issue Im concerned about is spiders, centepedes & others in there, we have an unusual amount of bugs where I live (sorta close to a lake & lots of pine trees) causes a lot more really variety of bugs. Ive seen stick bugs so big it was weird, I say this bc if I house them I will do the (scream like a girl) dance & not want to go in there! I guess thats what the cedar smell is for-repelling them……still looking-boxes really did work but talk about ugly 😑

      Hi! I honestly like both. I have two of the hoop houses and one greenhouse. The greenhouse is by far nicer looking and will hold up longer, but the hoop houses hold so much more. I think it really depends on your budget and how many plants you want to over winter.

    Don't remove it unless there is a legitimate concern about someone (for some reason??) eating it. Humans have a terrible habit of removing native and beneficial parts of the ecosystem because of irrational concerns that they might present a danger to us. As you said sarcastically in the beginning, it really is a beautiful wildflower that provides essential late summer/early fall nectar to pollinators that badly need it.

    Assuming the Hoop House will last at least three years the Costco Greenhouse (just to breakeven at a 10 to 1 price difference) would need to last a minimum of 30 years just to break even and "last so much longer". Life changes a lot in 30 years.

      I haven't tried, but I imagine since the branches are woodier you would be better off using a rooting hormone and sticking in soil. If you do them from hardwood cuttings you won't have to worry about humidity. I did root grape vines in just water but my success rate was lower than when I stuck them in soil. If you try it, let me know what happens!!

    What about Rose of Sharon: I have thousands of small plants popping up at the base of the grown trees. It's the 3rd time this Summer that I go on my knees and pull up the seedlings which must be pulled when they are very small 6" or the roots going down straight begin to break as they are being pulled. Better to pull after a heavy rain or deep watering. Beautiful flowers though ! It is manageable if we trim the tree before the seed pods become ripe.

    I bought one of these plants a few years ago and didn’t really have a place to plant it and so I planted it at the side of my house in relatively mostly shade! 3 years later and this year in particular I’m shocked at its size and the amount of heads on it! There’s probably more than 70 plus but I’ve noticed that the heads seem a bit smaller because there are so many! Should I trim the back or just cut off a bunch to bring indoors for the living room? Again I never had any expectations for this plant and now it’s an absolute monstrosity!

    • @uptosomething6271
      @uptosomething6271 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is awesome!! You can definitely take some blooms inside. The plant should have time to continue growing and set new blooms for next year. Once the plant dies back in the fall, you can also remove any dead wood from the middle which will make more room for the live branches next year. You can also remove any weak or spindly branches to allow more room for the strongest branches.

    Great video, thank you! I've subscribed and I'm looking forward to checking out your channel. Do you mind sharing your wholesale source? Is it easy to buy from wholesalers? (I understand they usually require a minimum order, I don't mind) I'm usually very patient with the few annuals I plant and I don't mind them taking their time to fill in, but next year I'm hosting some events in early summer and I want the garden to look lush! I will definitely try your overwintering method. Plus I'd like to get LOTS more annuals and I'd rather grow them on in the winter than spend a thousand dollars in the spring 🙂

      Hi! For Sunpatiens I use North Carolina Farms. They do have minimums and there are charges for boxing and shipping. If you are not buying a lot of plants, it ends up not being worth it. If you are buying a ton of plants, they are great. They also have sales sometimes! I want to try getting my wholesale plugs earlier next year and then growing them under grow lights until the last frost so they will be bigger when I plant them out. That may be a strategy for you too, before your event! Thanks so much for watching!

    I'd like to see more of Ollie 🐾. That's a big disappointment when the colors and forms and other details are not as advertised.

      Thanks so much. I am sure Ollie will make another appearance.

      @@uptosomething6271 I acquired most of my daylilies on a couple occasions when a friend and I went to some daylily farms and bought them directly out of the beds where they grow them. That was a lot of fun getting them that way. Huggs to Ollie.

    I like the orange one best but that’s because I use purple’s and orange’s together and love it.

    Great video!! I’m a new subscriber 🤗🦋 I live on Zone 6b. Which zone do you live? What do yo do with them in the Winter? Thank you so much!! 🙌🏻🦋🙏🏻

      Thanks for subbing! I am in zone 7b (Long Island NY). I don't do anything special for them and most years they do fine. Most of mine are planted along my foundation, so they do get a wind break. If it gets very cold by your then you may want to protect with frost fabric and a heavy mulch before winter settles in. Thank so much for watching!!

    You can propagate a patented hydrangea, you just can't sell or trade it.
