You can hang your backpacks on the trekking poles.
Thanks for the tip, Sparky. We'll have to try that on our next shakedown. The packs are pretty heavy, so my concern is damaging them somehow, and that the poles are lodged up into the tent to keep it up.
Those mesh devices sound really cool! This is the first I've heard of them. Is there a resource out there that you can point me to so I can learn more about them? Just a warning about the GSI mug, don't strap it to the outside of your pack like I did. The cup likes to slip out of the sleeve and the lid falls off if you go over rough enough terrain. I wish GSI had a version with a screw on lid that stays in the sleeve (like a hybrid Fairshare and Infinity mug, hint, hint @GSIOutdoorsLLC).
Nice video 👍
Thanks, @gurewals. Thorough, but audio/video is poor...
You did well for amateurs! Good luck! Can’t wait to follow your hike!
Thank you! It's nice to get some positive feedback. We're still open for suggestions, so throw anything you got at us!
Good luck, please carry the microspikes from the beginning, from what ive seen of past hikers they were needed pretty early.
Thank you! We'll keep that in mind, and make a decision right before we take off. If there's any snow or ice on the trail or predicted, we'll likely take them. We might even bring them, then mail them home if they're not needed.
I don’t think you’ll need the mug girl… drinking a coffee out of the toask pot… it’s a great mug safe the weight, also don’t bring the sandles lol and maybe put the tampons in a ziplock bag wouldn’t want them wet or try and find a cup that works for you just think you’ll have to carry out all those dirty tampons and they will smell and attract bears
Thanks for the tips! I'll think about it, especially the sandals. I was going to bring a Ziploc bag covered in duct tape to throw waste in.
Love to see the backpacker mug in your kit! Good luck on your journey! 🏕
Thank you! We love using it! We bought extras for other trips, and in case Nick gets sick of using his cold soak container for everything on the PCT.

Oooh myyy. *George Takei voice*
I had dirty girl gators before but the Velcro came of in a day , what your plan or solution? I was thinking possibly super glue the Velcro to shoe .
We know exactly what you mean. They came off of ours pretty early one. I think we were going to keep cleaning them and reapplying, but I really like your idea! The shoes will tossed somewhat soon anyway. Thanks for the idea.
When I heard the cats, I seriously thought my wife was watch a cat video (she's like 15 feet away from me.) Regarding the knife, I'd probably leave it at home and bring the Glock,.. a Sasquatch will laugh at the knife, but the Glock will give him second thoughts. However, with the Dude Wipes and non-scented items, you might be able to evade a Squatch, rendering the Glock as a waste of added weight. Finally,.. no snow in Nebraska?!? That's unpossible!
Hahaha. I thought I was going crazy when editing the video. We want to befriend the sassy squatch. I was going to offer the knife to him.. them (?) ..as a gift. The lack of snow here, the record snowfall in the South, and the lack of water in the West is very concerning. I'm expecting time travel, wormholes, and sharknados.
You are funny Nick🤣
It's in my genetics.
I just want to say I didn't watch this video. They're a drag.
To each their own. 38 minutes is a lot to contribute, but I'm sure some people will appreciate that we mentioned almost every little thing.
Hi there from the PNW. We’re excited to follow you along your journey. Thanx for sharing all your prep videos. Very helpful. If timing is right it would be awesome to give you guys a first bump on the way by. We not far from the trail. 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Hey, Chaos and crew! Thank you, and you're welcome. Looking at your username, I (Nick) may be your age. We will gladly commence the bumpage of fists if we see you! 🤜🤛
@ Absolutely!! And we will make it happen! 🤙🏼🤙🏼
@Chao5-1984 Nice! About what mile marker are we talking?
@ We are in section F so we’re talking 1983.8 - which has great re supply and my hometown area the town of Sisters! Bend is a lot larger. 2000 isn’t to far for us And 2045.6 is also where we are often hiking around.
We'll add it to the schedule. It should be easy to track us since we aren't delaying videos.
Good Luck Guys!
Thanks, @Pagan!
Take your time, I'm laying down some hardwood flooring,.. but if it's not done by the time I'm done tomorrow,.. I'll be disappointed. But,.. I'll still love you.
Hahaha. Thanks, @schmitzcj.
Excited for you both… Can’t wait to see you… love Aunt Connie❤
Thanks, Connie!
Secretariat here Look forward to following you guys. I'm already out here. Two days from Sierra's Good luck to you guys
Wow.. already out there!? Do a rain dance for us and everyone else please. Bonus points if it's recorded and posted online!
I'll be hiking starting mid-April! See you guys out there!
Awesome! Congrats on your permit. We're not in a rush, so we could take 6 months making it easier for us to see you catch up.
My start date is March 11th so we may see each other from time to time. I'm planning on taking my time before KMS if the snowpack in the Sierra looks bad. If not, I'll have my hiking legs at least somewhat so I'll be able to open the throttle and turn over kilometers.
Have a trailname we can look out for?
@@JennickHikes FeetForBrains or FFB
Thanks! We're logging all of these names with notes. Hope to see you or at least your log entry out there!
never heard about the need to filter water in towns on the PCT, which town was this? sounds like ridiculous fear mongering, take all farout comments with a gigantic grain of salt. i filtered all of the water i collected on trail, even from sources with farout comment warnings, and never got sick. there is zero cow-water on the PCT, i don’t recall any sources with bad color or taste, for context i drank plenty of cow-water on the CDT and survived. you seem very worried about strangers sending you unwanted food along the trail, which doesn’t make any sense because this has never happened to anyone ever because of the logistics involved in coordinating a resupply via mail. plus you would not be required to accept this package or carry the food or eat it.
You're probably right. We were watching another couple going through the PCT in 2024, and they mentioned others getting sick from the water in town (we don't remember which TH-camrs or town). We don't know how the people who got sick know that, but it's a precaution that we're going to keep our ears open for. We've heard about the fear mongering which is getting out of hand. We were mostly leaning towards staying educated instead of fearful. We're not really worried about people sending us food. We just know our family likes to support us and send gifts, and we just want to reiterate to them that they need to coordinate a little bit with us. It would be unfortunate if we received food from five different people at one location.
Electrolytes- we like the sugar-free Powerade mixes and Liquid IV. Thanks for the oats cleaning tip. I will definitely try that!
I usually default to the sugar-free options myself, I even run away from sugary drinks, but apparently we're going to need the sugar for energy. I'm probably still going to avoid Cokes and things like that around trial magic. (Nick speaking, Jenny is all about it just for this hike.)
@@JennickHikes Haha you say that now, but oh my god. I don't know why or how, but trail sodas just hit different
Nick speaking again... That's what Jenny keeps telling me! I'll fight it until I have a bad enough day. I won't hide my reaction from the camera when I cave in.
Good plans. Hopefully you can find someone to take care of your doggy so you don't have to pay for boarding.
Thanks. We found a solution, so we're good to go there. We will post an update to that situation and for each of the videos on March 1st.
Great job on the workouts.
Thanks. We have been a little light on them lately because selling our house is apparently a hassle.
Love your hats.
Love you two!
You will enjoy CLEEF. Regarding snow gear, remember that Mt San Jacinto is just before Idyllwild and can be treacherous. Sanjac Jon is a guy who goes up on the mountain almost daily during early hiking season. His channel is San Jacinto Trail Report. His channel will show what you will see before you get there. Nice video. Hope that screaming guy gets some help.
Thank you! That is some great information. We will definitely watch his channel closely starting March 1st. We will set up our snow gear, packaged to be shipped ASAP if we request it early.
Early start is good. There is water on sections, A B and C. Goes dry quick, so then 6-8 liter water carries needed. Get thru San Jacinto early. Hard solid pack snow better than re-melting ice sheets. Sierra same.. If storms come just hangout in Idyllwild for a few. Good luck you'all. Watching 2025 pct hikers is my superbowl. 2652 miles from mexico to canada. Last great american adventure.
Have fun my wife do trail magic but won't be on pct this year but we live in Omaha hope to do cdt magic again this between pct and cdt we served over 150 hikers last year
That's awesome! Surprised we came across the radar of another.. Omahamian? We plan on doing the CDT if we can complete the PCT and AT first. Maybe you guys can do trail magic on the PCT while we're on the CDT that year. Hahaha. Thanks for providing support!
I highly recommend you both get the CA Campfire permit for the PCT. It is free and it takes literally 5 min. to watch the video and complete the simple test. It is about understanding the basics of fire prevention. The rangers like to see that you took the time to get the permit.
Done! We're still waking up, but that was way easier than we thought. Thank you!
@ Great! Hope to see you guys on trail this year.
Good luck. If you know how to travel and camp on snow, going through the Sierra before the big melt is probably safer than after it all starts melting. P.S. Plan on nothing going according to plan.
Interesting. That's the first time we've heard that. We're definitely expecting our plans to be ruined, but we'll research the snow-camping more. One of us has trained to camp in snow. Thanks for the information!
What are electrolytes?
I have no idea! I just consume them somehow, then my muscles don't cramp as much, and I feel better on long hikes. Apparently salt, potassium, calcium, and a bunch of other things are electrolytes that we need. Potassium caught me off guard. I guess that's why people eat bananas after they work out.
@JennickHikes awww man,.. I was really hoping for a, "It's what plants crave" response.
Oh, well you see.. that's the evolution of electrolytes.... Brawndo! But why do plants crave it?
Is it snowing there?
It was then (in the Nutrition video), it snowed 2 days ago (~1in), and we saw flurries tonight on the way home.
Grand canyon: 2 days minimum. 4 days likely.
Thanks for the info. Had a feeling it was going to be at least 2 days, but 4... We're going to have to look into it more. We might end up just doing a shorter hike that takes a day.
Loose the baseball caps and use wide brim full coverage hats. A baseball cap covers 1/8th of you face, side, and back of your neck. You can thank yourself most of the trip. Its always very sunny out there.
Again, great feedback! We've tried wide brim hats, but after using Sun hoodies with the hood pulled over a cap works for us. We feel like it's a lot more comfortable. We have sunscreen to apply to our faces.
No music is best for demonstrating what hiking is like. Quiet and trail noise.
Thanks for the feedback. After hearing the running water, We had to give it a try. We may still use music rarely when it makes sense.
I start March 25th. Hope to see you out there.
That's awesome! We hope to see you in the wild too, Greyhound.
as a 2024 sobo who just finished 6 weeks ago, i walked The 2 to get through the bridge fire. no one hassled me and in fact there were other people out walking the road too (not thru hikers).
Thanks for the info. I've heard conflicting reports of people getting ticketed. We will assess the situation when we're closer.
I'm starting in late May so who knows when I'll catch y'all, but holler if you see an orange guy! -Gato
We'll be looking! When do you aim to finish? Our target is August 15th, but we doubt that'll be the case.
No idea, I'm just taking it a day at a time. As they say, planning is essential, but plans are useless
Hey there awalkingingmistake! I'm leaving Campo on the 15th of May and will only be a short distance ahead of you. I'll be watching for you further up the trail I'm sure you'll catch up to me! Peace 👍✌
Just watching your video. I'll be a day behind you. Supposedly it's going to be a light snow year in southern part.
That is fantastic news! How fast are you hiking? You'll probably pass us. Hiker name and/or partner(s)?
also look up Marmalade outdoors videos.
Will do. Thanks!
Big Bear Lake is very hiker friendly. Great trail angels, places to stay and resupply. I hope to be there doing trail magic this coming season. Diamond Dave and Lighthouse angels
We'll look out for you!
Nous commençons le 13 mai 2025 ! :)
Congrats! We hope our journey helps to make yours better.
As a Oregonian enjoy our state, it is beautiful. Definitely hit crater lake, ramona falls and tunnel falls detours. They are beautiful and basically PCT at this point.
Thanks for the recommendations! We were planning on moving there, but maybe someday much later. We were going to hike every inch of the PCT, but my wife convinced me that we should hit all the great detours instead. Continuous foot path is our goal so we can hit all the good spots.
March 5th start date here! Hope to meet up :)
If you take it slow enough! We're going to be starting slower than we want because we need to avoid the snow in the Sierra. If you have a trail name, please share it so we can look out for you.
Hell yeah! My start date is April 5th!! Maybe I’ll see yall out there!
If we take the Arizona trail, you may pass us! Have a trail name we could look out for?
@ hippy Gandalf!
That's badass.
Oh goodness😬Thanks for sharing ❤️❤️🎄
You don't like the screaming?
@ no I don’t like the screaming🤣
Good Luck ! (subscried) I'll watch you two prior to my start 01MAY
Awesome! Hope you have fun out there, and we can help give you important info.
Hi, I came upon your channel. If I may make some suggestions about training please read below. I have been section-hiking the PCT for the last 8 years and learned a few things the hard way. The most important training for me has been hiking. It has been imperative that I get in at least 200-300 miles in the 2 months before starting a section. This toughens up the feet, blisters are a big problem for most hikers in the desert. The cross training you list is nice, but ultimately irrelevent. Miles matter for me. I'd suggest working up to 20+ mile training days, every other day if possible. Best wishes for a successful through-hike, I hopt to see you on the trail. Trail name: Queasy Rider.
Great info! We are planning on kicking the miles up to exactly what you said, 20+ miles every other day. I believe we won't be able to lift weights too much since our YMCA membership will end March 1st, two weeks before we start. Will be on the lookout for your name!
The ending is,.. chef's kiss!
We are relieved to hear it! We were laughing, but thought it might have been a bit too much. Comments like this motivate us to keep on keeping on.
@JennickHikes I was cracking up! I was surprised no one else commented about it.
i think people checked out .. didn't go that far into the ending .. it was Very Funny
Hi guys!! I got my PCT permit for a May 15th 2025 start!! I'm so excited to follow you 2 and to blog my trip. I'm only doing the first 600 miles this year, but I'll be back the following year to push on further!! Safe trip my friends!! 😎👍✌
We've got you marked in the calendar to look you up then. Have fun out there! We can't wait!!! 🤘
Watch out for the black biting flies, they ate me alive last May in the first 20 miles. 1000 plus bites.
Watch out for the black biting flies, they ate me alive last May in the first 20 miles. 1000 plus bites.
Truckee is worth visiting. Best candy store on trail!!! Super easy hitch from the ski lodge. Acton town near KOA has a great organic grocery store. Buy there as there is literally nothing in Agua Dulce. Like you guys, I try to eat super healthy as much as possible prior to hitting the PCT. This makes such a big difference.
@@PhoenixGenesis Hello!! I had been warned by a friend who section hiked that area that the black flies are CRAZY!! I have Head net, long sleeves and long pants planned for that area now. Thank you for the heads up confirmation!!
Oh BTW, did you plan for bear canisters between KMS and Donner?
We're not exactly sure where those places are at the moment, but we are planning on hiking with our bear canisters from the beginning up until the last point we need them. If that's just a little bit beyond the Sierra, we'll keep them until then.
As for Bridge Fire, the PCT was initially closed for about 20 miles. The latest closure order is 12 miles. Hopefully there will be more revisions to the closure order to come. Keep our fingers crossed.
Fingers and toes crossed. If it's still closed we're going to have to make a long reroute. We really don't want any breaks in our continuous foot path.
