Various Level 42 bits and probably a bit of bass clarinet too.
Mike Lindup performs Level 42's "Silence", Union Chapel, 21/12/24
Mike plays Level 42's rarely heard track "Silence" at his wonderful gig at the Union Chapel, Islington. Props to the fantastic band, especially Yolanda doing a sterling job on bass here and the lovely Shelly Nelson on backing vocals.
Is this the first time this has been played live since '89? I think it might be, but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Apologies for missing the first few seconds, but I didn't know it was coming.

Best spot in the house at what was hands down the best L42 show I've ever seen. Still buzzing days later.

To pre-empt the comments: No, this hasn't been audio-edited or bass isolated and no, I didn't "choose the wrong lens". The FOH speakers were behind me, there were no front-row speakers and I was about ten feet away from and therefore right in the line of fire of Mark's cabs, which were bleeding all over everything in the flesh, too. Which frankly suits me just fine ;-)

Bass jam, Oxford New Theatre, 2023 Living It Up tour. I did 11 shows on this tour, so I saw this solo plenty of times - and it never got old. This version from the fantastic Oxford show is my favourite, if only for the lovely octaver-ed fingerstyle section near the end.

Absolute legend.
One of my favourite songs from Level 42, was lucky to see this live.
One of my favourite Level 42 songs!
Truly TERRIBLE sound…Not least cause we know what's possible (and required to do justice) to Level 42…But thank you @Leese for posting.
Well, aren't you a peach? And I use "peach" in the Top Gear sense of the word.
Is this the first time without sequencers?
That's a good point, I don't know. He always used to PTFB then come out front to sing it, hence their necessity, I guess.
Damn, thats one of his old Jaydees. Thing is older than me haha.
It didn't survive the tour, either. Check out the footage of it crapping out at Southend, mid-Starchild 😂 Poor old dear!
@@Leese42 I'm pretty sure he had it on either display or storage before pulling it out for the tour and probably forgot to get it thoroughly checked before he set off haha. It is Starchild after all, one of his most prized basses!
So bloody good! 🤙
It was, Matt. It was magic. ❤
Great ! Montreux 1983 !....
Master of his craft.
Yolanda!
Loved this song and this gig!
It was a wonderful night, wasn't it?
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love this song, he hasn’t performed this song in years!! 😄👍
First time since '89 as far as we know.
@ That’s wild that is!! 😜
Thanks God we have Mike´s music for a better world!!
Amen to that!
Mike is a fantastic songwriter and musician his voice has stood the test of time I love this song✨🫶🏻✨
It really has. He's singing as well as he did when he was 30. If you haven't heard it yet have a look for the performance of Life Will Never Be The Same from last night - his vocal is absolutely beautiful on it.
Great video of a beautiful song‼️🥰 Thanks for sharing! 👍
Capolavoro❤❤❤
Grazie per questo video!!! ❤❤❤😂😂
So beautiful !
Meravigliosa
Magic ❤
That bass sounds fab.. Lovely song. Mike's voice is just crystal. Great backing singers. Fab night.well dine.
Great,thanks for this video.👍
Love Games I was expecting Old Gregg but this is cool too
If we could hear it in DSD format/quality . Great start of the journey!
OMG fantasic shot as a *huge* Mark King fan and bassplayer i love that you can alomost *only* hear the bass - fantastic thanks so much :)
Nice dry stage sound.👍
Ahh! yES LEESE! (Found it)! Nice one! *thumbs up*! You must have been right @ the front! (I was 3 rows behind you! Just to your right)!
What’s happened to the vox In the mix??? Saw them last night @ Indigo, London, and pleased to say that Mark, Mike and the rest of the band were in fine form!!! To the FOH mix engineer: You need to boost Marks vox in the FOH mix mate!, (last nights was a bit quiet as well…. (I know its all about the bass, but still, it almost sounded like a monitor mix)!
Did you read the description? All the answers are there.
The best! bassist in the world!!!
And-what an incredible, unimitable sound!!!❤
The one and only Mark King...taste, technique, musicality, THRILL! What a musician!!!!
I bought this LP when it first came out at the suggestion of one of the guys in the record store and I have been a Level 42 fan ever since
Daaamn rell those freakin trumpets to shut the feck up !!
Great stuff ❤
woah mark playing a bass with a headstock? say it aint so!
The Jaydee bass has so much more character than his Status basses.
Pretty good
Thanks for upload this video ❤️❤️❤️❤️😍
I'm glad Mark went back to his Jaydee basses.
Yeah! That was a pleasant surprise! I think it pays tribute to the sound. It is more authentic Level42... love it!
Leese, Mark is playing this only for you…🙏👍🙋🏻♂️
😂
I don't think I have ever seen Mark so upclose and personal during a live gig! Let alone the one I was attending!
Mark's backside has sort of disappeared, but that frontside looks as fully endowed as ever!😍
Wow that Bass sound🤩! Awesome playing!
He is still the KING
lol sounds like you’ve plugged your phone into his DI
😂standing in the line of fire of those cabs, not really much choice!!
Thanks for this Great upload Sir!👍
I love how you can barely hear any of it besides a bit of drums and that awesome bass! 🔥🔥🔥
The audio is bloody awful
Might be in the minority here but I do prefer Mark's Status tones.
No, that's fair comment. I would have said the same until the last couple of tours (I missed the '21 tour when he dug it out again). I think the Status tone comes over as a more complete thing on gig footage. The Jaydee is more something you *feel* at the time, if that makes sense. The real glorious bottom end frequencies just don't come over so well on phone footage, but standing in the line of fire of the cabs like I was for this, oh my god :)
I guess I love the warmth of the JayDee... Signature Mark... who's complaining?
Thank you, Mark. For everything!
I like it, Leese‼️❤
