This channel is all about making music on your own. Tips, tricks and tutorials on playing guitar, writing songs, recording, mixing, mastering and using Reaper. I'm especially into metal, but I dabble a bit in other genres and I think most videos should be useful regardless of your choice of DAW or taste in music.
Even though I didn't start my playing and making music until I was 33 I'm a fast learner, and I can help you be one too. The fact that music is my hobby helps me explain things in an easier way, and my day job as a developer means I can help you fix or hack your studio environment.

Hyper-Espace from Once Upon a Time...Space [40th Anniversary Metal Cover]
มุมมอง 5027 หลายเดือนก่อน
Metal cover of Hyper-espace by Michel LeGrand, from the fantastic TV series Once Upon a Time... Space (Il était une fois... l'espace), which is one of my favorite series of all times. I remember being completely mesmerized by it when I was in kindergarten when it aired in 1982. This year (2022) the series celebrates its 40th anniversary, and it still feels futuristic and visionary. Working on t...

The hardest part is integrating backups into your normal workflow. Without that, you will just forget to make backups. Also, external...

How to Use Bluetooth Headphones (with Microphone) in MacOS [Reaper Tutorial]
มุมมอง 3.9Kปีที่แล้ว
Using a bluetooth headset - that is headphones with a built-in microphone - is surprisingly troublesome in Reaper on MacOS. The problem is that Reaper sets the sample rate to the lowest sample rate supported by the selected audio device as a whole. Since the microphone on most headsets don't go above 10 kHz (I keep saying 8 kHz in the video, but you get the gist), Reaper will switch the whole p...

Using Amp Sims and Impulse Responses for Metal - Reaper Tutorial Using Only Free Plugins
Thank you so much for this!
Can multiple vst paths be dropped at a time? Or is it one path at a time?
Not sure... I know it can be done for a folder and will affect all plugins inside it. I don't know what happens if you put multiple paths though.
some amp plugins r not stereo. so u must put on each track also havin a different amps on tracks r more fun)
Very true. You also can't control the volume on the channels separately if you do one plugin on a parent track (if you lower the volume on the left it will make the input lower on the left, not the output). So one completely separate track for each channel is safer. The only reasons I usually put the amp sim on the parent track is for better performance and to be able to make adjustments in just one place.
I recently got Neutron 4 Elements and it does not want to install on my M1 MacBook Pro, I am running MacOSX Monterey 12.1 I would assistance in this matter as there is no solution for this issue on the Izotope website
When I play my two takes back to back in doubling I can't figure out to split them in half. When I play them play back together after doubling it's all out of time!
Not entirely sure what you mean... But you don't split the tracks, you pan them. One take to the right, one take to the left. When it comes to time sync, did you record with a metronome or a drum track so that the recordings sit right on the grid?
good for jumping in. Backing track over the whole video is a bit to much, other than that good vid, thanks!
nice!
I can't thank you enough for this video. I was about to lose my mind.
Happy to help!
what do I do if I can't input my password? I followed the steps and made it to the password part, but then when I tried to input it I couldn't add any additional text
Does it ask for your password?
@@osiris-guitar it does but i cant input text
@@GodIsDanny The input is hidden (for security reasons). Type the password at the prompt and then press entet
you're a god!!!
And a benevolent one at that ;-)
doesnt work for me, i just want to know what fx do i need to put on my bass midi part! im a noob in dont understand why you have 4 bass parts and i dont want that
One bass track is just fine! The FX you need on that track is a... Bass VST. I use Trilian, but that's quite expensive and a bit old. I think Eurobass is a good one at a decent price, but there are also free ones. Maybe this one www.pluginboutique.com/product/1-Instruments/64-Virtual-Instrument/4386-Ample-Bass-P-Lite-II/?a_aid=5e31f3f1b63c2 or this plugins4free.com/plugin/190/ I have four bass tracks because I split the signal up into separate frequency bands and apply different effects to different bands. That's a bit advanced for right now, but I made a video about it if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/CFujjaeDPzo/w-d-xo.html
When I drag the component or vst file, or the vst/component folder, it says 'zsh: permission denied:' ..... Any help?
Awesome Bro Thanks liked
Fantastic
😍
@@osiris-guitar will you do this with any other music from these series? like Le Teigneux idk i don't know how to make music
Are these VSTs for Mac initially or for PC?
This only applies to MacOS
@@osiris-guitar i know but the plugins itself are originally for mac or pc
@@boristubeti6776 For mac. Even though it's the same plugin format (VST) the executable inside the VST had to be specifically for Windows or Mac since it's binary.
Simple advice & very foundational, really SOLID tips for all players. I appreciate you sharing your experience.
Gracias!!!
Great video! I also use Reaper. It's great that you are able to help a lot of people get recording guitars into DAW properly.
I just wanna say may god bless you and your family and every single future generation❤️😭😭😭 you are the best man thank you!
Thank you for the solution. Follow up question; the VST loads but without the UI. I hear it working but I'm seeing a blank black screen. Have you ever ran into this problem?
No, I didn't. Which DAW?
Duuuuuuuuuuuude!!!!!!! THNX A LOT!!!
Thank you very much! It helped me a lot!
Great to hear!
Good stuff, thank you for the help!
highly appreciated... Only solution to be found in the whole freking internet.
Thanks! This is super helpful
I recommend people have their 0 point of the session, not right on the zero for tracking. I have all my tracks start at around 5 secs up the timeline. It avoids cutoffs of the start. Then if you want, once complete, you can simply pull all your tracks back to 0 before you print.
Good advice! I'm almost always a little bit off when tracking, and if you're early you will just miss a tiny bit of your recording. Also when you are rendering your track for upload to Spotify etc you want a short silence (200-300 milliseconds) at the start of a track so it won't get cut off when it's streamed.
Huh... I was very intimidated but curious to try this myself. I'm glad I found your video. You made it look simple and I understood everything perfectly. Thank you
Glad to hear it!
Well done. Very inspiring!
Thanks
Glad to help
this didn't work lol
Same😢
Either you have a different problem or you didn't do it right. So what's happening?
Thanks helped a lot. I still needed to find how to open the Terminal from an folder but was a fast search in google
Thanks for the help!!
Woow this demystified metal recording in a quick video, Ive been struggling to understand stero mixing
How do you get plugins working?
1. Install the plugin 2. Make sure path to vsts in Reaper include where your plugin was installed (if not in standard location) 3. In Reaper preferences, press scan for vsts 4. Press the fx button on a track 5. Select and add the plugin
thx so much man, this was pissing me off
thanks again for this simpler version. Much appreciated.
nicee! cool stuff 👏
Awesome video !!!! You gave me what I needed to start. Thank you sooooo much man
Super happy to hear it! Go forth and make great songs
thank you very much for this really helpful video 🙂
Nice tips in there! By the way, what's your approach on tracking dual harmonizing guitars? Thanks!
Super simple - melody panned to one side, harmony panned to the other. I made a whole video on harmonies (but that's more about creating hamonies than producing) Guitar Harmonies for Beginners [Reaper Tutorial] th-cam.com/video/aEtZ8EqV5Vs/w-d-xo.html
Howdy, sir. Put the information in and received an error message that says: Not enough arguments for option -d. Expected at least 2 but got 1. I think I put everything in correctly. Thoughts?
You are missing a space somewhere. Check the blog post to see if it's easier to spot/copy paste www.osirisguitar.com/how-to-make-unsigned-vsts-work-in-macos-catalina/

Thanks for this! It's not the first working solution I've come across for this issue, but although I don't remember what the first one was, I do remember it was fiddly and not very intuitive, hence me not remebering it! I'll definitely remember this one, it's clearly the most direct and logical route to a resolution. Cheers!
But where did you get thst plugin? And im using Linux so im sure thats a whole diff ball game
Veryyyy thanks mannnnnn
For us newbies ya go to fast clicking thing like is it outa tune we’ll see and then ya click it real fast and I don’t know what you clicked I figured it out. But clicking access to things to fast. IMHO plus my version is different version 7
Version 7 isn't that difficult. And slow down the playback speed if it's too fast.
