This channel is all about making music on your own. Tips, tricks and tutorials on playing guitar, writing songs, recording, mixing, mastering and using Reaper. I'm especially into metal, but I dabble a bit in other genres and I think most videos should be useful regardless of your choice of DAW or taste in music.
Even though I didn't start my playing and making music until I was 33 I'm a fast learner, and I can help you be one too. The fact that music is my hobby helps me explain things in an easier way, and my day job as a developer means I can help you fix or hack your studio environment.

Double-Tracking Guitars - a Tutorial for Awesome Metal Rhythms
Does your rhythm guitar recordings sound thin and dull compared to what you hear in songs? Chances are that you're not using the oldest trick in the book when it comes to recording guitars - double tracking!
Double-tracking will not only instantly make your guitar recordings at least twice as good, it will also automatically create space in your mix so your rhythms don't collide with bass, vocals and lead guitars.
Make sure you are listening in headphones or stereo speakers, or some of the insights in this video will be very hard to hear 😅

Metal cover of Hyper-espace by Michel LeGrand, from the fantastic TV series Once Upon a Time... Space (Il était une fois... l'espace), which is one of my favorite series of all times. I remember being completely mesmerized by it when I was in kindergarten when it aired in 1982. This year (2022) the series celebrates its 40th anniversary, and it still feels futuristic and visionary. Working on t...

Losing your creative work can be devastating. Everyone knows you need to make backups, but how many times haven't we heard about musicians forgetting hard drives with the original recordings in a taxi or a computer with the single copy breaking or getting stolen? The hardest part is integrating backups into your normal workflow. Without that, you will just forget to make backups. Also, external...

How to Use Bluetooth Headphones (with Microphone) in Your DAW in MacOS [Reaper Tutorial]
มุมมอง 6K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Using a bluetooth headset - that is headphones with a built-in microphone - is surprisingly troublesome in Reaper on MacOS. The problem is that Reaper sets the sample rate to the lowest sample rate supported by the selected audio device as a whole. Since the microphone on most headsets don't go above 10 kHz (I keep saying 8 kHz in the video, but you get the gist), Reaper will switch the whole p...

Using Amp Sims and Impulse Responses for Metal - Reaper Tutorial Using Only Free Plugins
You are amazing! A tiny update. If you do it on the folder that contains your VSTs, you can unlock all VSTs at once. :D
Unfortunately IRs and many plugins (NAM, for example) don't sound right on mine.
In what way do they sound bad?
@@osiris-guitar I'll upload a video tomorrow.

thank you! very helpful
didnt work for me on seqioa
Yes bro, thank you!
"these" or "this one." These is plural. One is singular.
@@DUKEofWAIL Sure dude. Now it's your turn to make a video in Swedish 💪 (or whatever your second language might be)
when i do that drag and drop, it give me the path, but when i enter, i just get access denied, and not even a chance to put in a password.
life saver you're a good man
This channel deserves way more subscribers. Thank you very helpful video 🙏
dimebag in guitar world back in the day moms was shopping dime siad move the notes three frets away and use your ears
Yeah, well - some of us need a bit of structure to get to where we can trust our ears...
Thank you man! this is a big help.
Great, happy recording!
what tuning is the guitar in?
@@KainDPain C standard!
Thank you so much. This was driving me insane. Subbed
Glad to help!
love this cover one of my fav cartoons with one of my fav OST in general
And right when I thought I was gonna need a new pair of headphones... Thank you so much for showing me this!
it still says The operation can’t be completed because “Quiet Piano 2 Lite.vst” needs to be downloaded. it says that it expcted 2 and got 1 of something i dont know of
I think that might be a different problem...

“Shift W”. Is that Windows or iOS ? Thank you for this video. I’ve watched quite a few videos about this, and there’s always something that doesn’t work the same for me. I’ve been stuck on this stretch markers point for weeks. Liked and subscribed.
It's MacOS, I'm not sure if it's the same on windows unfortunately.
If you dont mind me asking what app did you use?
For recording and arranging the song? Reaper.
I got it setup. I got the latency down to 23ms by doing 8x128. System can't handle fast playing and it noticeably begins to lag behind you if you play fast. Just riffing some Destroyer 666 made this apparent. Just going to buy an Amp.
23 ms is pretty awful for live monitoring...
@@osiris-guitar I know. :( I'm not audio engineer enough to fix it. When I brought the buffering down lower the audio started distorting pretty badly.
@ Windows or Mac?
@@osiris-guitar Windows. I am however using a very budge USB interface if that's the problem.
The problem is if it has ASIO drivers or not, they are essential for low latency audio in windows. And they are different for each manufacturer. Lookup the website of your audio interface, even if it's budget it might have ASIO drivers
Thanks for the many tips! I recently started to use Reaper & I also record using a Neural DSP plugin, but when I listen to the WAV file of my recording, it sounds muffled & acoustic. What could be the reason for this? In reaper itself or while recording it sounds like it should be..
@@nielsh.2800 That sounds almost like either the dry signal is mixed with the wet (the one processed by the plugin)... What happens if you copy the recording to a new track and put a new instance of the neuraldsp plugin on it?
Dude! Your channel is an automatic subscribe. Why? Two reasons. 1. You don’t claim to have the secret sauce and are clear that this is what works for you. 2. Your content is helpful and understandable. Keep up the great work and keeping it real ✋
@@HondoUS Awesome, thanks for watching!
Your video saved me a lot of frustration. Thank you thank you thank you!!
Cool, glad to help!
How many times can someone like this video? Thank you very much.
how di you raise signal levels its not working with my reaper
Turn up the input volume on the interface. To raise the volume of an already recorded item, hold down shift and click-drag the upper edge of the item.
well done great video and song
Thanks!
Thank you
Huge thanks, it works.
You really sold me a Reaper license. Although I play shoegaze, not metal but watching your videos give me more knowledge on the distortion tone to consider. Thanks!
I tried this every which way for a vst in Ableton on Monterey and could not make it work
Wow. great video thanks! got my new vst working in ableton!
thanks a lot... Some more insight from my own evaluation: If you're working with image, set the image latency according to your headphones in reaper preferences, it's possible to work in sync to picture. I bought some Sennheiser Momentum 4, they are only capable of 44100hz Sampling rate, so i needed to set my 48khz reaper projects to 44100 when i work with the momentums
Hi, thank you for the video. I have an HX stomp and I use it as a user interface, however whenever I use the dry signal and load a plugin, I hear both, the processed and the dry one. How do I get rid of the dry signal?
Thank you for your help!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH MAN
This didn't work for me. Before your video, the audio was pitched very low and choppy. After the steps here, the audio plays correctly for about 1 second then abruptly cuts out - then the bluetooth on my laptop needs to be reset because it stops working altogether.
Amazing! and you did it with the bare minimal hardware and software... nice vid, would you do one using one virtual drummer like the one in EZDrummer or Logic Pro?
still works in 2024 awesome!!!!
So sad it didnt work for me =/ VSTs are still not working and still in the quarantine
How do you make the sub tracks for each guitar and make the initial track the “Parent”? Thanks
Hey man, I cant find the Neural plugging when I search it up. Am I supposed to download it ?
Yes, it's a commercial plugin, not included with Reaper. There are free ones too (search for NAM Neural Amp Modeler - similarly named but not affiliated), but the ones from NeuralDSP are amazing. 14 day trial if you want to test them out.
Can I just drag the entire VST folder into the terminal instead of doing one at a time?
I haven't tried it, but the command is recursive so it should work just fine (I think I saw someone did it somewhere in the comments).
Unfortunately the bass sound lets your mix down (in my humble opinion). It sounds very fake. It makes the guitars sound weird. Can you do another video with real bass and see if you get a better tone?
Thanks man, just managed to get a guitar and I am do happy that your stuff exists.
5:58 why not the other way around, cut out the lowest of kick drum to not compete with bass?
amazing
Thanks for the great video. What theme are you using in Reaper? Looks good and really clear.
Hey my guy I have one question I just buy the plug from afroplug a Kompa plug vst for my Mac i use Logic Pro but I have a little difficulty to install when i unzip it and I click on the Mac folder to install is just empty white folder do you what the problem is how can I install property to my MacBook ?
Thank you Mister!
