Oddly Satisfying- Removing Oil Paint and Why I Use Linseed Oil

    When my stencil is down, and wax has cooled a bit, I use a big loop tool to scrape the stencil off. That removes residue on the stencil and it releases from the board better. Seems to work for me and to clean my stencils I use my big loop tool. Love your design and lace of video. Thanks for not using annoying crazy music

    I was told you need soy wax to clean your brushes with. Also I heard you need to use a stain blocker 1st because of the chemicals in wood. Then you need an Encaustic gesso, which is very pricey??. Help.

    • @thefarpavilion
      @thefarpavilion หลายเดือนก่อน

      Never heard of using stain blocker... I've never had problems with my wax being discolored because of wood, even years later. Encaustic gesso is optional. I use it on my cubes sometimes to keep too much wax soaking into the grain, but it's not necessary.

    I tried the etching technique, cleaning up with mineral oil, because I didn’t have linseed oil, and that seemed to make the wax soft and sticky. Is that an issue with other oils? What are the alternatives?

    • @thefarpavilion
      @thefarpavilion 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, other oils can leave the surface sticky as they don't react to oxygen in the same way. I would try something like coconut or canola oil, but linseed is by far the best option that I've seen.

  • @suerothberg143
    @suerothberg143 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    i know this might be a ridiculous question...but lets say you have a piece you created with acrylic paint on paper..or a collage that has both acrylic paint and tissue paper mounted on board. Can you seal that in encaustic without anything happening to the integrity of the piece? thank you.

    • @thefarpavilion
      @thefarpavilion 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So ... It COULD work... But it might not. Acrylic dries like plastic which is smooth and nonporous, so encaustic can't really fuse with it. But, if it's a thin application on paper, it might still have something to fuse to. I would recommend sealing acrylic with a sealer spray... I can't remember what it's called, but it's a better option for a full acrylic piece I would say.

      The more layers of wax you add, the fewer holes there will be. So if there's too many holes, add more wax. Fuse it well, then repeat if necessary. But I don't mind them.

    I have a question not related to what you’re demonstrating right now. Are you familiar with XD WAX MEDIUM the one with extra damar says it’s used to create a glass like topcoat and why would you use that after you’re done using for instance, they are enough wax on your picture. Would you do it after the whole picture is totally drive for days would you do it right after would you do it instead of the other works? I’m not sure are you please tell me if you know thanks so much.

    • @thefarpavilion
      @thefarpavilion 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I just looked this up. So, what I saw was encaustic medium with a 50/50 ratio beeswax to damar. The damar is a hardener and also makes the wax more transparent- less cloudy, so that's why they say this is harder when cool and more glossy and clear. This is interesting because I've never used a higher ratio than 20/80 resin to wax, and heard it wasn't a good idea. Thanks for sharing! I might have to make some now ...
