Merry Christmas! Your apt. Is all ready for the season looking so festive and cute! Enjoy!
this vid was absolutely perfect. Relaxing and just enjoyable. thanks for uploading
We always have issues with chaperones and that is the biggest pain about field trips in my experience. That is every single year for fourteen years of teaching...always an issue.
Canadian teacher here….. the micro management of you and other teachers is ridiculous. 3 minutes? You have to ensure they have pre sharpened pencils? The job is hard enough…. Couldn’t imagine having your principal write you up for something so trivial.
Yeah at first i was upset but it wasn't a true write up, just a reprimand because being a 5th year teacher, I should have known better to waste time sharpening pencils at that moment.
Are you going back to teaching reading , writing and history next year 😃.
Probably staying in 4th grade math and science
I am so glad your field trip was fun and had such cooperative staff. Sounds like a place to go to again and again! I look forward to seeing your vlog next week on your apt. It has been a long time since your full move in videos and I know you have added things to make it your own place. Enjoy your break and getting to be with family and your dog Cookie!
Love your intro! 💖
Consistent small group instruction could be a huge game changer for achievement. I know it’s difficult sometimes, but meeting in small groups during independent work time can help you see specific misconceptions before assessment time. Also, daily exit tickets to show their understanding of the skill will help group students for the next day. I would love to help brainstorm if you need someone.
Tell your mom that I am proud of her for becoming a citizen because it is a long process and I am excited for her to be able to vote for the first time! I am glad you were able to have lots of science stations and that the kids enjoyed it. Trial and error show that they haven't had experience with the various items and will need lots of instruction on how to use things like slides. Demonstrations are easier to control or items that they watch what you do and go see models with out passing them around. Only experience helps you know what they can handle at this age and that only comes by doing and seeing what happens. Hope your ankle feels better soon. I have somewhat the same experience of a twisted ankle and on crutches years ago. I can only wear lace up sneakers with plenty of support and cushion now. Definitely not a fashion statement but it works!
As always, thanks for sharing your teaching experiences. Greetings from san Cristóbal city, chiapas México
so awesome that content unites multiple countries!!! 💖
That is sweet the students told you that you did a good job during your observation ❤
Pocketful of primary also did the solar cups activity

Im not a teacher, but from my own experience in math, it could be that they understand the matetial you teach but maybe the earlier skills are lacking. When i got to college, i understood the math topics, but i struggled to correctly finish the problems bc my algebra skills were lacking. I dont know whats on their tests, but maybe there is a way to see which problems they missed to find out if thats the case.
Good points! It's very interesting though because everything so far in the first three months has been a continuation of third grade just increasing the level so they are pretty much two years behind. Some still struggle with adding and subtracting.
Oh my gosh....that move is going to be a pain but in the long run it will be better. Best of luck when that time comes...that's a lot! Amazing job on your observation with so many visitors!
They really do look like they were enjoying the math games from the intro! I love when the kiddos play math games ❤❤❤
They do!! I only wish I could put their voices because it shows their excitement but I have to block voices and faces for privacy reasons!
Where did you get your cute desk calendar? I haven't seen a deskpad calendar that has different themes each month. I love it!
Amazon!! From Hadley Designs!
@teacher_in_houston thanks!
How wonderful to receive all the science experiment supplies! Here is a braid idea: put most of your hair into a bun and then circle it with a braid.
I miss blanco I miss u I want u back -kenia
Hi Ms blanco
Where do you order your stickers?
Amazon!!
Did you think about the stools for small group.? Ikea or Five below has them for around $5 each.
I was thinking that because Amazon chairs are way too expensive. I'm looking at Facebook Marketplace as well.
I look forward to your videos. I enjoy the long format. Thanks
Ok, 😂 so as the video progresses, I saw your LEDs on. Scratch that part of my comment. I loved your test score visual for Google sheets. Would you be willing to walk us through how you created it? I’m not that good with “sheets” but I really like that idea. I’m definitely a visual person as well, so it is so good to have something like that for myself. Thanks in advance.
Ah yes. I was so sick on Monday and Tuesday that I totally forgot to turn on the lights. I would love to explain how to create both the grade tracker and the data tracker!
What a bummer! Coughs are horrible because just breathing gets your attacks started. Hope you are getting better. BTW. I loved your idea from the previous video on making a sheet where kids keep there scores. That is genius!! That way they take responsibility for learning and know their progress along the way, without acting surprised for their quarter grades. Did you end up putting those sheets inside the binder, or on the back? For my brain, I would put them inside, just to make it easier every time they have to write a score. That way you don’t have to take the paper out and try to put it back in every single time. Did you take your LED lights out? I haven’t seen them on during these vlogs.
Lol. Some of my kids already lost their grade tracker. I don't get it! A monster must eat them cause I don't get how they could lose it that fast. However the majority of the students put it in the back cover pocket. Some put it on the inside because they had a resource like their multiplication chart on the back.
store dry erase markers upside down! they last way longer that way. also, an empty sheet of paper in a sheet protector functions well as a dry erase board
Haha I always store MY dry eraser markers down but I forget to tell the kids to do THEIRS. Great idea on the sheet protector. That will be my last resort when I officially run out of whiteboards!
When it comes to field trips kids have to be patient when they want to go out cause some of us weren't like that 1:00:30
Exactly! Now kids think they are entitled to one. If they only know the amount of stress that I had to endure to get them this upcoming field trip.
I feel your pain! I completely lost my voice due to a horrible cough that I had, it similar to everything that you mentioned, PLUS writing sub plans for my first graders which was horrible. It's just too much when teachers are sick. It's just easier to grin and bear it when we can but it is so difficult and our health suffers.
Plus last time I was out, my room was left a mess so......
Sorry you have been sick again. Make sure your DPT shot for whopping cough is up to date and pneumonia too. Both are spreading in different parts of the country.
I heard about the whopping cough too. I do however get a bad cough once a year ever since I was in tenth grade. So I know my body was going through the annual cough.
@@teacher_in_houston Fall allergies like mold??
I actually don't have allergies. I had a case of mild acute bronchitis when I was in high school and every year I get a bad cough. It's usually during May or April that I get it but I guess this year was later. Two years ago was a bad case like this year when I had the same cough during the STAAR testing season.
Hi Just wondering, Are you required to wear uniform or do you just choose to ?
We are required to wear red or white collar shirts. We can wear any bottoms as long as it's appropriate.
Thanks for the great content! It's refreshing to see you thriving and enjoying your career. BTW, I would love more information about the shirts.
Hello Ms. Blanco, can you put the Starbucks drink list in the description. I would like to try it.
Check out this Iced White Chocolate Mocha from Starbucks: starbucks.app.link/etejKKjYQNb
❤
Where do did you get the first two Math resources that you shared at the beginning of the vlog
I get them all from a book that was shared with me from attending the RICE Mathematics summer program.
Great idea about the sound protection system. How is it working out for you?
It does help to muffle some noise. Not completely soundproof but it does help!!
Well something is better than nothing. 😊That was a really good idea. I’m glad it’s helping
FYI Ikea has a wall hung foldable desk with shelves for $110. Or with two foldable chairs for $150. Under the Norberg line.
Amazon has some a little less expensive but are a little different.
It is fun to watch you use and enjoy your new items and be creative in your teaching finding out what works this year.
I love that your students made that cultural connection!! 💖💖💖
This sounds as bad as messing your student teaching so bad within the first month that the school you're student teaching at kicks you out.
Learned helplessness!!! Yes . I find this happens a lot with EB’s. It’s difficult because they have language barriers and then new info to learn. It’s hard not to feel bad and do the work for them.
Interesting about the cupcakes. One of the schools where I taught at, the students HAD to eat their birthday treats during lunch so that it did not distract any learning, or make a mess, in the classroom. Interesting how different schools have their own methods of handling birthday treats. Our school district starts super early...August 1st, but we have full weeks off for fall break, Thanksgiving week, and spring break.
Yes I was so excited. One because lunch time is the only time they are all their classmates and two, it helps with cleaning time and also it doesn't stop instruction. Luckily we stopped the instruction at 2:45 and we didn't start dismissal until 3.
THe math anchor charts you showed could you please link the resources please. Thank you. Alicia from CT

The screw on the connection door needs to be tightened on the piece on the inside door latch. That should help it close better.
Ah good eye! I have a screwdriver so I will see if I can tightened it!
You're welcome @@teacher_in_houston
My school breaks back to school night into sessions, so parents with multiple kids can visit multiple classes. All sessions start and stop at the same time. For example, 4:00 - 4:30, 4:35-5:05, etc.
I'm not a teacher, but I feel your frustration with my own work at present. Doing my best but feeling it is not good enough.
What a rough week. 😢 So sorry; I’m glad you were able to find solutions and were able to end the week on a better note. I wanted to thank you for telling us about your floor paws on an earlier episode. I had been struggling with my HS students keeping their grouped desks where I put them. I ended up putting duck tape to guide them. So far so good. 😅
Sorry you are having car troubles and that this has been such a rough week. Hopefully things will be better soon!
I feel you on nobody to come home to so I stay at work till traffic dies down a little bit or when feel like driving single struggle hard sometimes
It helps in the winter months to put lights on a timer so you don't come home to a dark living room. Also do the same with music or TV on to greet you at the end of the day.
Did you ever find out what is wrong with your car?
My dad said it has to do with the engine. He has to get the faulty one replaced.
@@teacher_in_houston Sorry to hear that was hoping that it would be something easy to fix.
