Hot Rize - Colorado Music Experience
Bringing respect for tradition and progressive elements to the bluegrass genre, the eclectic Colorado band went on to a long and storied career.
Named after the secret leavening ingredient in Martha White Self-Rising Flour-a longtime sponsor of bluegrass music-Hot Rize debuted in 1978. Balancing innovation with reverence for the roots of bluegrass, the four members gained renown for a stage show featuring their ill-concealed Western Swing alter egos, Red Knuckles & the Trailblazers, who lovingly parodied ’50s country music. Hot Rize enhanced its legacy in Americana music by embarking on several world tours, winning the first-ever International Bluegrass Music Association award for Entertainer of the Year and receiving 4-star album reviews in Rolling Stone.

"Miscreants" - te-he !
Grew up with my brothers playing this music on stereo and in their bedroom. Uncle was a guitarist in our town in a band. Taught my brothers. One who went deep. Also into Spanish style.. Paco De Lucia..much more.. drove me nuts..difficult music. Uncle taught them well..Loved there music and still do🕊️🌞
Vitale, Walsh & Passarelli BARNSTORM
Lot of inaccurcies in this but still interesting.
A very warm person and a great entertainer with a great voice. i loved attending her shows.
$1 million, now for sell for $48,500,000 and it's half the size it was.
Wow very informative!!!-I was totally unaware of his mountain connection but commented in a former clip that he looked like a Mountain man!!! What better place than Colorado could you be closer to God and write/perform that Heavenly Music! He found his Valhalla and his epic talent and Beautiful music performed by this equally Beautiful and Handsome man taken far too soon! R.I.P. and Thank you for Bestowing your Beauty on our World Dan Fogelberg!
My husband’s father is Dennis Lindsey. He passed in 1992.
Barnstorm = stone cold masterpiece!!! Absolutely my favorite album of Joe's..! One of the most sublime and perfect pieces of music I've ever heard, easily in my top 10 if not 5 favorite albums of all time! I often fantasize about he, Joe V & Kenny reuniting and doing a "Barnstorm" tour, playing that album in its entirety! At the very least, I wish he'd start playing a few more of those songs on tour these days, especially "Birdcall Morning".
I never knew they played in 67
im goin his school at fargo library tonight with don dokken as background
The first Manassas double album is one of the best albums ever made, I love Chris Hillman too. The whole band and album still stands as a masterpiece, I think it’s up there with 1970’s Layla, I certainly have played it constantly over all these years, I was just 16 when it was released & my favorite song is Johnny’s Garden, though all of those Colorado songs are perfection.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love all of firefalls songs I listen to them frequently
Stills attacks a dreadnaught like nobody. Probably uses medium strings as well. Try and find a Martin Stills guitar. I think they go for 50k if you can find one. I’m sure I saw him in concert in Denver with a leg cast on from skiing? Does anyone else remember that? Any way one of the best singer, guitarist of our time. .
$1 million in 1971, up for sale in 2024 - a bargain at $48 million.
Nice Truck.. it's probably still working somewhere..
The Beatles killed millions of cool local music scenes unfortunately.
It's a little late now, since a lot of their era of musicians are no longer with us, but I wish someone had written a book about how the Draft impacted rock n' roll.
Had a sister 12 years older than me so remember listening to her albums . HS growing up with same old Lange syne music . Sadly my sister passed away this past April 2024. 💔💔💔🥲
I've been picking guitar for 51 years this year. Dan started it off for me when I "Stars" from Home Free on KNX-FM (Los Angeles) in March of 1973. Thanks for opening that door in my life, Dan. You have no idea of what you did for me and I'll always be grateful!
Sugarloaf and Spirit are two underrated American rockbands
Awesome
Kenny Pass the jelly
Stills plays the first solo on Claptons “Let It Rain “
We had the pleasure of working with Jerry Corbetta from Sugarloaf back in the mid 90's. He heard our version of "Don't Call Us" from our first EP th-cam.com/video/7m9ClfM4RTg/w-d-xo.html and liked it so much that he came to see us while we were touring in Vancouver and invited us to collaborate with him on a few songs at Grand Master studio's in L.A. It was a great experience working on pre-production with him for a week in Montreal, then L.A. for 2 more weeks. Great memories. Thanks again Jerry. R.I.P
Lot of Bobs in Sugarloaf.
Thank you for including a photo of Amy Grant at the end but she should have been mentioned. She recorded Age to Age, Straight Ahead and Unguarded. All smash seminal historic Christian pop albums that defined CCM music. And all Grammy winners in 1983, 1985 and 1986. 💕💕💕
And all platinum sellers and number 1s on Billboards Christian Pop chart to boot 🎉
The greatest country rock band in history. The best show I ever went to was at the Nashville Speedway in about 74 Poco killed it with 4 encores. I felt sorry for the main act which I think was Leon. It was Waylon Poco and Leon Russel for $6.50.
Being from Wichita myself and living here most of my life, I've seen him perform here several times, which is extra great because he's one of my guitar heroes who influenced my own playing, tho' I don't claim to be able to approach his level of expertise. He's just on the short list of major influences of mine.
Where Randy was,it became a golden record!
There is a really good newer release by Manasses called "PIeces". It's outtakes and alternate versions. It's much better than the second record.
1977 was the most awesome for everything. 💖
You are one of the few people that know" the story".
Superband
🎸🌹Happy Birthday Jerry! 🌹🎸🌠
🌠🌹🎸Feliz Cumpleaños Jerry🎸🌹🤙🏽!
Mannassas never gets old. I listen to it every week. Thank you Stephen and Chris, you kicked ass . Unforgettable
Started listening to KIMN in the late '50s, I remember when they played 'Tom Dooley' nonstop for I can't remember how long...Favorite DJ by a mile was Jay Mack (RIP)
Really nice -Surfer’s Stomp!!!
Dan Fogelberg SO deserves a full-length documentary. Same Old Lang Syne is my all time favorite Christmas song.♥
I am amazed that the first album they made was so damn good! Some of the songs on there such as Miserlou and Pipeline are the "ne plus ultra" of that genre. I'm just amazed at how fast a person can play the lead guitar - flying fingers! To my mind, there are really the progenitors of surf music. Remember, this was back in the mid to late 60s. Amazing.
Ah, yes...... the ranch that the members of Chicago paid for but didn't own.
One gaff A good feelin to know was released in 1972 not 1973.
I thought for a long time that it just couldnt get better than Red Rocks 78 even with Donna wailing away on Deal
I discovered Hot Rize, thanks to the late 80's remake of the movie, "The Blob". No kiddin'. --- Early in the movie, the Sheriff enters a Diner, there's a song on the Radio, and someone asks if they like "Country Music". --- I really liked the song on the Radio, which turned out to be Keith Whitley's, "You Don't Have to Move that Mountain", performed by Hot Rize. --- I stayed to watch the Credits at the end of the Movie, to see who the band was. That was my introduction to Hot Rize, and I bought my first Hot Rize CD soon afterwards.
Excellent one-of-a-kind song!...Remember hearing on KEEL AM radio Shreveport, Louisiana on Line Ave for the first time !
As someone who spent much of his musical exploration investigating so-called "one hit wonder" bands---unfortunately, Sugarloaf was the only band whose remaining material didn't measure up to their one---or two-hits in my eyes. And I had good expectations that the rest of their songs would be as good--if not better--than "Green Eyed Lady" and "Don't Call Us"---but came away very disappointed. And just so you know---that hasn't been my usual experience with these types of bands at all!
Loved seeing them at the Niwot Grange back in the day.
RIP Dan Fogelberg.
