Palouse to Cascades Bikepacking: What Could Go Wrong?
*Updated* Sound correction made for video.
Hi, I'm Jill, but friends call me Tarot. Join me as I continue to bikepack across the state of Washington on the Palouse to Cascades rail trail. I start out the day thankful that danger is behind me on this picturesque day of riding-because what could possibly go wrong? From unexpected surprises to events I definitely didn't plan for; this section of the journey from Wanapum to Othello, WA was filled with way more than just beautiful scenery!
Was it all smooth pedaling? Not even close. Was it unforgettable? 100% yes. So put on your helmet, fill your water bottles, grab some trail snacks, and hit the trail with me as we navigate through a bit of chaos. You won’t believe what happens next!

Come along on an original paranormal hike series, with me, an intuitive medium who loves nature and hiking. I'm investigating Washington's most haunted trails, one trail at a time. I would like to know exactly where the "Cherry Farm" incident occurred. Just to make sure I stay way clear of it when and if I ride out that way.
just after the end of the rail trail where the line becomes active and you are foreced back onto Lower Crab creek rd, a cherry farm is on the right side of the road. Using Google earth, it looks to be about 1.5-3 miles down the road from the railroad crossing.
Despite this wonderful trip! Have fun on your future adventure and thank you for watching!
Shotgun lady is definitely the scariest thing on this journey. Glad you made it through. And the dog! Lordy Lordy.
@@kateripley5430 Thank you & thank you for watching!
O. M. G.!!!! That shotgun lady is out of control! And your bruises and bites are so nasty. So glad all worked in the end but maaaaan!
@@MarjyWood-r1z thank you!
I have noticed that is a tough section. Great job.
Thanks! I was definitely out of my comfort zone on that section.
Beautiful and fun to ride along (without lifting a finger!) But those tunnels! No ‘mam! I’d do with a buddy but not solo! I’m too chicken!
Ok, grit in this sense is a noun, not a verb, and it still describes you!
@@kateripley5430 😊Thank you!
Grit is a verb I would definitely use to describe you! Only way to get experience is to get out there and do it! Way to go!
Great video of your adventure! You are far braver than me!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Lots of hills out there, no shade, carry lots of water and/or a filter. It can easily reach 100f out there. I hope you did Crab Creek.
It definitely was a hot one out there! Good advice. Thank so much for watching :)
this subject would make a classic $1. law suit to force state prarks to reduce risks and injury and deaths in above average challenged environments. Where are the law students.
And that's why they call it "adventure". I am soooo happy you found a way out safely, well, kinds safely. But you are still with us, Good job!
Absolutely agree, It's such a beautiful ride- and I learned so much a long the way! Thank you for watching 😊
The Yakima Training Center is great in the Spring. Wildflowers abound at that time of year. And its wonderfully isolated too.
@@LeapinLaTours I bet it is even more beautiful in bloom!
The section along the Yakima River is so beautiful.
Thanks for sharing, I highly reccomend American Cycling Association maps for planning and Komoot App for travel. Did Florida to San Diego with them and only had 1 locked gate in over 4800 miles! Stay safe. Your video has me Jones-ing for the open road!
@scotthamilton5138 Hi Scott, I will definitely check these map recommendations out! FL to SanDiego? Wow! Thank you for watching and I hope you get out on the bike trails for your next adventure soon 😉
Oh my goodness, that is quite a crazy end of your day! I biked the trail, Rattlesnake Lake to Vantage, (John Wayne Trail at the time) many years ago. It was soooooo hot and the loose rock was so tough, going 5mph! I knew the trail was sand after Ellensburg, so I chose to bike the Old Hwy into Vantage. It was a tough trail at times, but really great memories as well! It seems like the harder things are, it makes for the best memories!
@@alissa_thornton I absolutely agree with you 😃 Thanks so much for watching and sharing your story with me
@ Just FYI, my husband worked with Hallie before he retired. We’re the ones who live in Packwood. I hope you enjoyed the Goat Rocks on your PCT hike! They are absolutely stunning!
Awesome I was there a few years ago can't wait to see it again Thanks
Most welcome, thank you for watching 😊
I really liked your video! I retired this year and have been accumulating a list of bike-packing, rails-to-trails routes. I have been riding for a looong time, but I have to admit I am a bit nervous to get out there and try my first trip. I just heard about the Palouse trail a few weeks ago. I am very much looking forward to the rest of this series! Thank you!
@gmail.com I am so glad you are enjoying-It is a wonderful trail! 😊

Been there .Never again 😅. Look up GHOST OF WELLINGTON THE IRON GOAT TRAIL. That is me talking to NWPIA that are now my friends. I have never been afraid of the spirit world. I am now.But that little girl that has been looking for her mom for over a hundred years breaks my heart.
Love it, Jill! Keep it coming as much as you can. Following you vicariously and always reassured to get your InReach update. Love you little sister!
Love you back!
How exciting. My nephew started and broke his ankle 100 miles in. My Mom has read so many books on the trails in the USA and was so excited when my nephew started out. Happy hiking.
I am so sorry to hear about your nephews ankle! Sending wishes for a full recovery 🙏 💛
This is amazing!!!! Thank you so much for recording and posting this!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Jill, how neat to see all of these gorgeous nature snaps, your experience, and your smile !! You're inspiring and I'm wishing you the best on the remaining adventure!!!
Thank you so much!
Amazing!
Thanks for speaking with our group tonight! I look forward to following along on your adventure! Only the best!
Thank you, it was my pleasure! I loved hearing about all of the projects your group supports in the community and enjoyed sharing both past adventures and near future PCT plans. ❤
I'm starting in a month. I'm in a similar spot as I have Celiac (no gluten) and am allergic to dairy. A few towns with major grocery stores will work, but I'm mostly sending resupply boxes. I didn't totally realize how much work it would be until i got into it. The difficulty of figuring it out is compounded by not knowing how fast I'll be hiking. Fortunately I've got someone to mail my premade boxes where/when I need. Good luck on your trip, I'm looking forward to seeing some updates.
I’m going to follow along too! This will be fun😎 You’ll do great!
Thank you! :)
You've got this! So exciting! Can't wait to see what you share along the way!
So excited to follow along!!
Thanks for this! I just got a lot out in Silverton WA and I have been looking for a back story to this area! well done! love the spirit convo too!
Hi I would love to chat about your work at Monte Cristo my oldest has his ashes buried there.
My condolences on his passing. Certainly a beautiful area to be laid to rest. I'd be happy to speak with you. My contact info can be found here at www.designedtolive.com and thank you for watching. 😊
thanks for the vid - that tunnel is really cool. A buddy and me weaseled our way through years ago before it officially opened and have since been through "legally" a number of times. An amazing place. Bring a jacket and a backup light.
Oh wow! Thanks for watching and sharing your story! And yes, flashlights and jackets for sure!
Whoa! Crazy.
I can tell just how much research you put into these videos!!
I do my best, I honestly could have done 4 separate videos of 20 mins each😂 Deciding what to leave out is the most difficult part! Thank you so much for watching!❤
Wow the noises were so loud! Great storytelling, Jill!
They were really loud. Thank you for watching!
Such sad and interesting history. That banging was crazy!
So many stories, I could only tell a fraction of them. Thank you for watching ❤️
So Cool! They were having quite the party. haha.
This is a phenomenal video. I've hiked here before & found it to be fascinating. I didn't think about it being haunted at the time, but it makes total sense it would be. Man those EVP's you captured are incredible btw.
This is one of my favorite hikes. This and Lake 22 and Lime Kiln. I did catch a random voice on Lime Kiln that I didn't hear while there but heard while trimming clips. And I was the only one on the trail.
Lime Kiln trail has been mentioned on the lists for activity in our area, neat to hear an actual confirmation! I will add it to my future hikes list! Thank you for sharing your experience and for watching. 😀
We were up there on Monday working at the town site - did you enjoy my signs?
Wow really?! That's so cool! I enjoyed reading most of the historical signs- also taking note of any signage that had warnings. 😉 Unfortunately I wasn't able to visit any of the actual mine openings (as I see you have- that is so neat by the way!)or the remaining tunnel. Although I went up twice, I only went with my day pack. Next time I get a chance to head up, I hope to backpack in and camp overnight. That would give me a much larger window to get in a full day of exploration. Thanks so much for dropping a comment and for watching!
@tarotonthetrail If you can go up Monday thru Wednesday you can tag along. A LOT to see you don't know about. I use an E bike -

What a cool story and video!
Thank you for watching! 😊
Very Cool trip and info. Ninth anniversary hike... Nice.
Thank you for watching! I can't think of a better place to celebrate in the beautiful PNW outdoors. 😉
