GP1800R #6 $30 Aftermarket Handlebars
A short video explaining how I used a Pro Taper bar pad on the stock Yamaha handlebars and steering column on my 2020 GP1800R SVHO. I also did some other custom modifications with tools you probable already have in your garage to clean up the look of the bars. I did this because I really couldn't justify the $700 price tag of the Riva kit for something I was mainly interested in cosmetically. Total pricetag was $28 in parts, not including the spray paint I already had, and maybe an hour of my time.

      @Ronnie_Herron I've since sold mine to get something bigger with a higher towing capacity, however no major complaints. Rock solid reliable well built little trucks. Even tho they're rated for 7k, If you're not towing more than 5k regularly they're great daily drivers. Gas mileage leaves something to be desired though. They basically get the same MPG as the 2.7 F150s in practice. After a lift and big tires i was averaging about 19.5mpg combined.

    So what are negatives/risks of removing the ribbon? Yamaha put it there for a reason, right?

    • @ZF5foraWhiteGuy
      @ZF5foraWhiteGuy ปีที่แล้ว

      It is there because it acts as a "flame arrestor." They are required on all boats in the US basically as a leftover law from a bygone era when boats were carbureted.... Carburetors have a tendency to back fire out of the intake and this can be a fire hazzard for boats... however with modern fuel injected, computer controlled engines, this doesn't happen, however the law still applies.... so you are at most violating an emissions law pertaining to boats. But the possibility of you getting caught doing it is basically zero, i cant imagine anyome would be taking off your intake manifold to inspect it... but if you are concerned about it, they do sell aftermarket air filters that are basically a metal mesh designed for boats to meet the flame arrestor requirement and if you watch my other video on the inake/ccv mod, i explain it a little more in that video.

    • @brockb4452

      @@ZF5foraWhiteGuy Thank you for taking the time to respond. This is extremely helpful to know, and makes me much more inclined to do this mod now that I know that it has to do with emissions laws rather than an actual danger risk to the engine somehow.

    • @ZF5foraWhiteGuy
      @ZF5foraWhiteGuy ปีที่แล้ว

      This effectively is the exact same setup as any other aftermarket free flow exhaust. Neither of which changes the principle of why water doesn't backflow into the engine, because water won't flow uphill.

    • @jstone1211
      @jstone1211 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ZF5foraWhiteGuy thanks, but water will go rise in level if there is back pressure. I am concerned about flooding the engine if my ski has to be towed. I know this is off topic from your video, which I enjoyed. I was here trying to learn about the exhaust system. Thanks again.

    • @ZF5foraWhiteGuy
      @ZF5foraWhiteGuy ปีที่แล้ว

      @jstone1211 towing or stationary, it wont change the fact that the ski wont sink. It has nothing to do with back pressure keeping the water out... think of it as setting a pool noodle with one end in a pool and the other end on the pool deck, water wont magically move uphill without a vacuum drawing it out. Since the engine is above the water line, there is also no possibility of siphoning... your question has a lot to do with fluid dynamics, however i can assure you, this modification will have absolutely zero impact on the ability of water to enter the engine.

    You didn't need to do all that. The first hole should have been the right size drill bit so that you could immediately screw a small slide hammer for pulling dents out of cars. Auto zone and others sell this slide hammer. It would have popped right out after screwing into the hole you made with the sheet metal screw tip on the slide hammer and a couple slaps with the weight the ribbon would have popped out clean with no more drilling or metal debris created. I want to do this to my 2020. But I cannot get anyone to tell me that their skin improved performance after doing this. If the ribbon is that restrictive, it's got to make more power...or maybe it actually doesn't became of some physics reason.

    • @ZF5foraWhiteGuy
      @ZF5foraWhiteGuy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The common conception is that you will get increased airflow through the intake.... The main reason I personally did this mod, i meantioned in the video. There is a possibility for the ribbon itself to come out of its position and get sucked into the intake... the ribbon itself isnt big enough to do any harm but the rubber gasket can. The rubber gasket can get sucked into an intake valve and bend the valve. Under warrenty this isnt an issue, but if you're going to modify your ski and void the warrenty in the first place, its good insurance for future bigger mods. But probably a negligible performance increase.
