This is not a matter of old versus new. Most doors have locks that don't matter if they're lifted. There are a few manufacturers who make their doors lock downwards on purpose. I will never understand their logic. It is usually simple to put a screw in the header to keep the door from being lifted. Some locks are just no good.

@@kowen5323 Correct. My dad on his old house simply put small screws (usually with a bolt head) and nails so on in all of the windows and doors to brace them. If you want to stop the thing from sliding, get one of those cheap friction thumb screw clamps but DRILL a hole for the screw to go into as designed instead of relying on friction alone. Or if it's a solid frame, a hole and a nail or two that slides in nice and flush. It takes you 3 seconds to pull them out from the inside, but a few simple roofing nails or similar is amazingly effective. $2 and sliding or lifting the door or window isn't going to work. Sure, they can break the glass, but a sensor and alarm system usually makes them go next door.

@@HawaiiStep LOL. IKR i got two kids. I use a PVC pipe but realized someone could just lift up on the sliding glass door. Now i use the PVC pipe and a bolt on the top of the sliding glass door. So you won't be breaking into my house david. LOL. Also hour house caught fire in 97' on Christmas eve (half the house ended up burning down the the ground no joke) Part of the problem was my moms boyfriend was trying to bust out the sliding glass door so that he could use the water hose from the neighbors house. He kept picking up a HUGE bolder rock that was at least 20 Lbs and throwing it at it HARD AF and it would not break for a LONG TIME. Finally after like half an hour it broke thru the dual glass. BTW for those of you looking for security systems i HIGHLY recommend Deep Sentinel. They are the BEST security system on the market. Just research them and thank me later. Oh and before you cry about "oh this is too expensive". Ask yourself how much did you spend for that brand new Iphone? And how much is your monthly bill? But yet that Iphone wont keep your home and your possessions safe will it? Let me guess you got a car alarm to but no home security system? Brilliant! lol. SMH

Gabriel Vandal true, but breaking the glass is significantly more commitment than being able to just push and open the door! You can never make it impossible but every thing you do to make it a little more work reduces the likelihood somebody will do it.

I have a wooden dowel that I put in the track but it is a pain in the ass to move in and out of the track. I have to dig it out of the track with a finger and I have to watch the exposed row of carpet tack there because I removed the carpet in that room. I'm buying one of these locks tomorrow!!!! Go watch the undeniable truth channel about black crime in the USA and elsewhere if you need a reason to secure your home just a bit. And if you are black, well, you can still be a target.
