Cleburne State Park | Hiking 25 Miles | Plus a 1.2 Mile "Fun Run"
For the past year I've been adding on "loops" around Cleburne State Park. Each of these loops is exactly 5 miles. Today I finally made my original goal of 5 loops. To cap it off, I added on an additional 1.2 mile loop; just to say I walked a marathon.
There is absolutely nothing special about the loop or anything I have done. It's a pretty general route at Cleburne State Park. This is just something I have been doing as a personal challenge. But I'd love for others to join in on the fun of adding up these loops.

This is a 2 night backpacking trip from December 2024. My friend @TravisT432 and I, headed around to the western side of the Guadalupe Mountains in west Texas to explore a very seldom visited part of Guadalupe Mountains National Park. On this trip we hiked the El Capitan trail from Pine Springs, around to the Shumard Campsites, where we camped for 2 nights. We spent time exploring the canyons o...
The Western Side of Guadalupe Mountains | A Backpacking Preview

This is a quick preview of a full length video from a recent backpacking trip to the Western side of Guadalupe Mountains National Park. This was a 2 night trip where we hiked and explored the park over 30 miles of hiking. We stayed at Shumard Campsites and spent plenty of time hanging around the Williams Ranch House. We also explored a part of the park that I have never been to and I'm guessing...
Hiking 20 Miles Through Fall Foliage at Cleburne State Park | 4 Loops Hike
มุมมอง 291หลายเดือนก่อน
Another installment in my quest to hike 5 Loops consecutively at Cleburne State Park. This trip I was able to complete 4 loops in 5 and a half hours through some AWESOME fall color. This week is definitely the peak of fall foliage at the park. North Texas isn't really known for fall foliage, but Cleburne State Park is a hidden gem.

We had a great time talking TH-cam, camping, past and future trips, and life beyond the outdoors. Night 1 ...

This was a quick, overnight trip into the Guadalupe Mountains of West Texas. I had several mountains I was wanting to summit in a short amount of time. On day 1, I arrived at the park and started hiking (after a 7.5 hr drive) by 10am. I was able to summit Pt 6756 (Tejas Arch) and Bush Mountain (2nd Highest Mt in TX) before camping overnight at the Bush Mountain Campsite. On day 2, I dayhiked to...
Hiking 16 Miles at Cleburne State Park | 3 Loops Dayhike
มุมมอง 2542 หลายเดือนก่อน
Earlier this year I started hiking a loop in Cleburne State Park (Texas) that was exactly 5 miles, with a goal of adding on additional loops throughout the year. On this hike I did 3 loops for the first time. I hope to be at 5 loops by the end of the year or at least sometime during the winter. If you go out to Cleburne and hike this same loop, I'd love to hear about your experience.

This was the 9th and final highpoint of our 2024 Summer Highpointing Roadtrip. We travelled to the summit of Iowa, Hawkeye Point (Elev. 1670 feet), on July 7, 2024. Beautiful day and we loved our time at the summit. There was so much to see. Iowa has really put a lot into this park. The boys were feeling inspired (we had just been to the Field of Dreams) and played a lot of catch in the beautif...

I really appreciate seeing the cliff section from that perspective. I'm supposed to attempt the hike this year, and all the videos I've watched so far scare me when I see that part (as you mentioned). This gave me a little more realistic visual of it.
Take plenty of water. I hiked it in the summer. My temp. Guage recorded 110. It was easier than Elwood Peak and Little Bear Peak in Colorado which i climbed the day before. I was 64.
CSP is so underrated! I grew up in the area and spent so many weekends there. It's still my favorite park and I'll drive from the Dallas area if i want a good hike without a ton of people around! I love going in the middle of the week when no one is there, I like to bring ny hammock and hang by the lake for a few hours after my hike. Great hiking trails that you can string together to get in whatever length you want with enough of a challenge. And the wildflowers in the spring are amazing!
Fantastic work man! Hike looks and feels so enjoyable! Love it
Thanks so much! I appreciate you watching.
You’re killing it Cameron!!! Yeah it’s disappointing that people dispose of their trash on trail. We have always seen a few beer bottles, but that’s about it. It’s also sad that you have to tell people you are making a joke!!😂
I figured most people would get it if they've seen any of my other videos. But I don't need anyone getting upset thinking that I was being serious. The trash is so annoying because no matter where you are at CSP, you aren't that far away from a trailhead and trashcan.
@ exactly!!!
Great job! You rock!! Gives us a goal 😂
Thanks. We are fortunate to have some pretty good trails so close to us.
Great job! You rock!!
I enjoy these installments you’re doing from the state park. Interesting about the layers of temps out there. I agree about Jason’s podcast. I listened to Backpacker Radio mainly when I’m at the gym and a lot when I was on the CT to pass the time. It was an acquired taste for me the same. lol.
The main thing i like about BP Radio is that each podcast is long. So it takes up quite a bit of time on a long drive or hike.
@ True.
Looked like a great time. There is something special about sitting on the porch of that house. Thanks for showing us the far side of the park.
Yes, it is such a great spot in the park. I love it out there. And there is more to checkout than what most people would think.
Nice one. Sucks about the trash.
Thanks man. Yeah, trash is to some point inevitable. But I think volunteers do a good job cleaning up most of the time. It'd be awesome if people did a better job of not littering in the first place though.
Great job! I appreciate you making a goal and striving to reach it. I haven't gone hiking on even my local trail for a little over a year. My first goal for the new year is to get some miles in on that trail. Congrats on reaching your goal and thanks for some inspiration.
Thanks Paul. I do find it much easier to get motivated to get out and hike when you have some sort of goal you're reaching for; whether that's a distance, time, weight loss, or some sort of list goal you're trying to reach.
Crushing those miles! Are you secretly training for an ultra-marathon? Cameron Hall channeling that Cameron Hanes mentality? 😆 Keep at it, hoss!
I don't know about that. I would like to hit some slightly higher mileage than this eventually this year. But I'm eventually going to have to find a way to move a bit faster than 3.6 miles per hour. Now I'm off to look up what is the slowest ultramarathon completion time. Maybe I can strive for that. Haha.
I live within a hour of cleburne state park but have never been. Getting ready for a backpacking trip in Guadeloupe national park soon. If you’ve ever been, Any recommendations?
Look up the playlist on my channel for quite a few Guadalupe Mountains videos. You should be able to find pretty much anything you can think of from the park. If it's your first trip, and besides Guadalupe Peak, Wilderness Ridge is great for a single night. But doing some sort of small loop around the Bowl/Hunter Peak/Bush Mountain is always a great trip.
And here I was feeling good about myself for going around once last Wednesday and Friday. Hahaha That stump bridge was a little shaky. People may not be able to appreciate the fact those rocky rollercoaster ascents and descents are 100' to 125' in steep elevations and that mileage was not all flat hiking. Did you know there used to be a minibike trail on your fun run? Great effort Cameron. You deserve to go to Taqueria Mexicano 🤓
I remember back in the day the trails in the Camp Creek Loop area were quite a bit different. With really big drops and signs nailed to trees with stuff like "No Fear Zone Ahead" on then. I used to mountain bike that section a bit back in high school. I ended up jumping over that stump a few times. It really isn't very stable. Great job on the loop. Let me know sometime you're going out there if you ever want company. I do it as a single loop sometimes. I need to trim a few branches and pick up trash sometime in the next few weeks.
My daughter and son in law are heading there today and climbing the peak tomorrow. I expect the winds and temperatures will be brutal.
How did the hike go for them?
@CameronHall88 it was very cold, trail was snow packed ice. But they made it down safely.
My Guad man ! Meeting you has been special because I met you here first, you have taught me all there is to know about the Guads, the area expert I so enjoy seeing you in this your fav areas. When I visited my special place after so many years knowing I will probably never see it in person again was the best memory I could have I know how you feel about that. Thank you for sharing this place I felt I just visited here with you both. The narration is so special the best trail tour guide. The perfect weather and time of year. Best 2025 coming your way. :)
Thank you so much for your incredibly kind words, Liz. The park, and surrounding area, are both really awesome places with a lot of history. It's a harsh landscape but keeps drawing us back.
California will be tough to visit. Same with Washington. You will be in fora tough time for Alaska. I must admit it looks like fun.
Those will for sure be tough. Along with many of the other western states. We are working our way north and west as my kids grow. We are up to 32 states done now. Going for Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado this year. Thanks so much for watching!
Another awesome video! Makes be nostalgic form my hike last year through Shumard Canyon. Next time I go back I am definitely going to plan more time to check out the ranch and explore further around the mountains like y'all did. The mountains look so epic from that west side! Thanks for sharing!
You definitely need to check out the ranch area. That side of the mountains is so different from the rest of the park. But I love that you went out to Shumard in the first place. I really appreciated finding your video on TH-cam. Thanks for watching.
Great video !!! The porch was like that for a few years now.
I went back and forth as to whether it fell down and then they were fixing it or if they were working on it and tore it down. Thanks for confirming. I know the park has a lot going on but it looks like they put off any work on the house for years. The house was definitely in much worse shape than my previous visit. Maybe they'll have it complete by your next visit. Thanks for watching.
Cameron was there any usable water at the Bone Canyon Spring? Any where else? Looked like a great trip.
Not that I know of but we didn't make it all the way up to the actual spring. Travis did find a tinaja that was holding water off the trail a little ways in Shumard Canyon. It didn't look great. Next time I camp here will be with the intention of verifying Goat and Bone springs.
Great trip! Being on the mountains is great, but there's something about being at a vantage where you can appreciate those huge cliffs. I love trips where you can bask in some barely-remembered history and feel connected to the place.
The cliffs on that side of the range are certainly amazing to look up at. I'd be happy spending another couple of days at Shumard and exploring another section of that side of the park.
Awesome video! Very inspiring.
Thanks for watching and for the kind words!
Spectacular trip Cameron !! Views for miles in the beautiful Texas desert !! I grew up in El Paso , but didn't get into backpacking until I moved to California and began my love of Backpacking in the Sierras . I'm definitely going to try and do some trips out there !! Those canyons and peaks are amazing . Thanks for taking us along !!!
Justin, you definitely need to do some trips out there. There are some many cool things to see, all packed into a park that really isn't all that big. One cool thing about the west side is you are almost certain to not run into anyone else. Unless they drive up on a side by side. Haha. Thanks for watching.
Man, this is just a stunning area. Maybe one of these days this old man can make it out there before I hang up my spurs. There is cattle out there. It’s considered trespass grazing and I read where it’s been a problem for the park service because it creates unnatural competition with wildlife.
You definitely need to make it out there. There is so much cool stuff to explore and a lot of different options for 1 night trips that you wouldn't have to carry "that" much water. I was pretty sure the cattle in the park was illegal. But honestly, being able to follow cattle trails made it manageable to navigate on day 2. It would have been much more difficult without them. Not saying it's right. But it helped us out on this trip.
I'm really envious of you two. This was an awesome trip and I really enjoyed watching your and Travis's videos. I never hiked this side of GUMO so it really was a treat. Thank you so much for showing this and all I can say is WOW!
I'm happy to have you active again on TH-cam and a bit on trail. It's great for the hiking community. That part of the park is so different and so amazing. I'd still love to drive out there on Williams Ranch Road sometime.
Wow! I would have fallen numerous times due to staring up at El Cap. Thx for the show and tell!
It's hard not to stare. It's so cool from all the different perspectives. The west side of the park is so amazing. Thanks so much for watching.
Looks like an amazing adventure
Thanks for watching. Yeah, it was awesome. Travis is a great hiking partner. And that west side of the park is so different than the rest of the park.
@CameronHall88 you're welcome
I can’t express how special it was to go on a backpacking adventure with the person who first inspired me to try backpacking, in the very mountain range that shaped so many of your incredible videos. I really enjoyed your take on our trip-your narration and style are what drew me to backpacking and sharing my adventures on TH-cam. It was a journey for the books, and I’m thrilled we captured it with two unique perspectives to remember it by. Running into those utility vehicles and workers was quite a surprise, but after the meetup at South Llano, I’m just glad they were clothed 🤣. It was an absolute pleasure adventuring with you, amigo!
Thanks for your kind words. And thanks for being such a good hiking partner. I love seeing multiple videos of the same trip. It's neat to see a story told teo different ways. I honestly had never even considered there being other people out there. So that was definitely a bit shocking. We'll have to explore a bit more over on that western side in the future.
As a former GUMO seasonal ranger in the 1970’s, I’m familiar with the Williams ranch area but not the Kincaid trail that you took so I really enjoyed seeing it in your video! A great hike and I appreciate it!
Thanks so much for watching. I'm hoping one day to hike the entire Kincaid Trail. That Western side of the park is so cool and so different from the rest of the park.
Have wanted to hike the trail around El Cap for a while now. Thanks for the "in the weeds" view of it!
Thanks so much for watching. You definitely should hike the trail if you get the chance anytime soon. Trail is in pretty good shape until lower Shumard Canyon; it's a bit overgrown but not bad.
Great video! I really enjoyed my armchair travel with you. I learned the hard way that if you back flush with tap water the mineral deposits will clog up the filter. I backflush with RO or distilled water now.
Yeah, I definitely changed some habits after this trip. I got lucky that I had a hiking partner with another filter. Thanks for watching.
Awesome video! Makes me want to plan a trip out there!
You should! I enjoyed your videos from the park. We need some more quality videos to watch.
Looks like Dog Canyon is closed until they can fix the well!
@andrewlawrence5299 yeah, it's been closed for a while. It was supposed to reopen in January sometime. I'm not sure if that is still the plan or not.
Nice video 🙂👍
@@stigfloberghagenphotography thanks for watching!
@CameronHall88 🙂👍
Nice video Cameron! Did the El Capitan hike from Pine Springs out to Shumard and Williams ranch house on April 8, 2024 the day of the total eclipse. It was epic for me and one I'll never forget. I think it was even more epic than the trail up to McKittrick Ridge although they are just so different. Thanks again!
Wow, that is very cool. Was that in the path of totality? Those trails are about as different as you can get in the park for sure.
@@CameronHall88 No sir, not totality. But it was a decent amount. I was a little hesitant to be looking up with the pack on the narrow path/steep slopes, ha, but the shade was really nice while it lasted.
Da viewwwwwwws !!!
We came across some awesome Canyon views. And looking up at the mountains from down below is always really cool.
Big DAy! wow that's a lot of loops/ beautiful fall hike. love the long straight tree corridor! thanks for taking us along
cool artifacts and Awesome mountain views thanks for taking us along
Yeah, the well area was really neat. Had never seen a video from out there. Definitely worth the hike out. Thanks for watching.
Beautiful hike!!
Thanks. It was pretty. Just LOTS of bugs.
I have not been on the western slopes "yet". Looks great.
Such a cool part of the park. Just a little harder to get to. Thanks a lot for watching.
Talked to Travis about y'all's trip last night, so dope. I'm looking forward to seeing more footage from Pure Well. I had no clue it was so far away from the ranch! He told me you didn't make it all the way to goat :( just means you gotta go one more time...
Maybe when I can drive up the road. There were game trails, and at least the part i did was not super hard, but I think I would have run out of time trying to make it to the ranchhouse by sunset.
I think this was your best video yet. Well done. I haven’t been to that side of the park and you did it justice.
Thanks a lot. It's such a cool part of the park. Just a little hard to get to.
That's a great video! I really enjoyed it.
Thanks! I appreciate you watching.
I love it!
Thanks Jerry!
Great hike. I have been wanting to go to Williams Ranch myself.
It is such a cool spot. The El Cap Trail is tough but way easier than I remembered.
@@CameronHall88 the last time I saw a video of you doing the El Cap trail the wind like to blow you over the entire time
hell yeah!
Pretty great trip. Travis pointed out a mountain or two that we could see from our camp that you are planning on hitting.
@ must be the Winds
It’s surreal to think that I was lounging on the porch at Williams Ranch House with the person who inspired me to try backpacking in the first place. Sore knee and prickly pokes aside, it was truly an incredible adventure. Thanks again for inviting me, Cameron!
Thanks for going. You're a great hiking partner. I've already had Olivia pulling random thorns out of me. Still a great trip!
Was that Travis T with you? These new style videos are great Cameron. A nice presentation of what's to come. Very well done and I bet y'all had a great time.
It was. Good eye! He's a great hiking partner. We had a great time on a tough trip.
Beautiful. I still gotta get out there.
For sure. So much to see and explore at the park.
