The BEST Saw / Silky Zubat Review / Old vs New Blade
มุมมอง 5394 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Silky Zubat. I believe this saw is superior to most folding saws. No moving parts and the perfect size. A great all-arounder. Big to small, the Zubat can handle it all! After two years of heavy use, I have only great things to say about this saw. Give this saw a try and you will not be disappointed. My third day at this beautiful location. Most of the camp chores and projects are all done, time for some me time. This is a shorter video, mostly because I was taking a little bit of a TH-cam break. A "less work, more play" kinda day. For the fourth and final episode, airing June 14th, I'll be taking a little drive more north to do some broader exploring, and finish off the night with one of t...

Day 2 in this beautiful landscape. This video captures a taste of what it was like out there. Yet, being there, seeing it all with my own eyes and living through the experience, I can say it's hard for just one video to do it all justice. It's something I miss already. I hope this video, as well as episode 1 and the other videos still to come, inspire you to get outside, and create a spark with...

Easy Reliable Fat Wood Fire

How to start a fire with fatwood and a ferro rod. In this video you will see how great using fatwood is when getting a fire going. Another successful outing in the woods, found a new spot to set up, and got the fire box lit only using fatwood and a ferro rod. (Ok, and a scraper and catch. In this case my knife and the lid of my tinder tin respectively.) Lunch came out pretty near perfect. A BLT...
Flint and Steel Fire Tutorial & How to Make Char Cloth

Ever make your own char cloth? Ever try to make a fire using flint and steel? This video covers, in detail, how to do both. When I first started making fire with flint and steel, I looked to TH-cam for tips on how to get it done, specifically the best way to hold the flint and char cloth in a way that I wouldn't bust up the char cloth when I would strike the flint with the steel. Snail Sausage and Red Beans / Spring Cooking in the Woods
มุมมอง 1966 หลายเดือนก่อน
After a tasty snack with my coffee, the onion and garlic red beans with the Schnecke hit the spot. "Schnecke" translates to "Snail" in English. No, it's not made of snails, just pork, but the name refers to the spiral shape of the sausage like that of a snail shell. I was quite happy with how this all turned out. The hardy bean and sausage meal went down nice after a long hike, and I was especi...

    I like the old-school appeal of an oilskin tarp, but they're completely impractical outside of motorbike or car camping. They weigh many, many times more than a 3x3m DD Hammocks tarp, and the only benefit is their fire/spark resistance.

    • @JayBirdTreks
      @JayBirdTreks 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I pretty much agree with you, I would also add that the sturdy pitch of the oil skin tarp outshines my DD tarp, and the oilskin tarp does much better in high winds. But it's not very impractical if you plan to cover large distances on foot.

    • @Funkteon
      @Funkteon 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JayBirdTreks Additionally, 3x3m is not much to work with to make enclosed shelters, hence why I bought the 4x4m from DD Hammocks.

    • @JayBirdTreks
      @JayBirdTreks 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow, a 4x4 must have standing head room or something along those lines. I wouldn't know what to do with so much space with just one person's needs.

    • @maxsparks5183
      @maxsparks5183 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@JayBirdTreks I use my 4x4 DD tarp to make an enclosed shelter with floor and door and it’s a great size for that. Also, I have and love my Bushcraft Spain 2.5 x 2.5 meter oilskin tarp. As a bush crafter I don’t plan on hiking massive distances. The weight of my gear is important but it’s not critical. If I knew that I was going to have to deal with very high winds and a lot of rain then the oil skin tarp is definitely the one I’d find a way to carry.

    • @Simon-80
      @Simon-80 วันที่ผ่านมา

      My Dd tarp ripped of in moderate Wind 💨 After three days of use, so That would Never happened to the oil Skin tarp! DD hammocks tarp are Not Made for sunlight they said to me, so Dd hammocks plays Not Even in the Same league in which the high quality tarp From Bushcraft spain plays.

      Thanks for the comment, I suppose the time isn't the concern for me as much as the moment I am enjoying. When you truly enjoy what it is you are doing in the moment, it's natural, I'd say, to try and remain in the moment, whether it be minutes, hours, days, weeks and so on. And to be honest, I wouldn't say I was "off grid." I still had my cell phone to send my check in / "I'm safe" messages to my good friend, and my rental car wasn't too far away either. So although I was alone during this experience, I never felt to isolated either. Tune in for next week's episode! And take care.

    That was a really good tutorial and that food did look absolutely amazing! Did you buy the food put together or did you put it together yourself? Also what kind of saw are you using it looks like it cuts really good..

      Hey man, thanks for the comment/question. So the sausage and bacon kabobs I bought from my local butcher. They have some really delicious local meat products and I often get my meat from them for my videos. The veggie kabobs I got at the grocery store, although I often do make them myself. The saw is the Silky Zubat. It's an arborist saw but find it to be extremely efficient when compared to other saws of it's size. I highly recommend it. Not sponsored by them. It doesn't fold but is still small enough to fit vertically in a typical backpack. Thanks for watching! Tune in next week!

      @@JayBirdTreks you're the reason I tried my first Lamb chop dude..haha. For real! It was a couple of months back on one of my campouts.. I had my second one last night on a campout.. it wasn't as good as the first but it was still pretty good.

      @@OzarkGuy glad I inspired you to try something new! I'm definitely a fan of lamb. The video I'm going out to do today I'll be cooking a nice lamb steak and chopping it up for some wraps, Middle Eastern style. That one will be in two weeks, May 17th. Next Friday's video I'm currently editing. I'm at a new spot and I'm doing a BLT. Hope you can tune in. Take care.
