Great videos mate, I try different soil mixes in pots and grow side by side tomatoes to compare. Me and a mate try to grow the biggest one each year

Great video. Excellent information. Easy to understand. Useful tips and tricks. One of the things I like the most about your video's is that you don't repeat yourself over and over like many others do. All it does is makes the video longer and more difficult to hear the important information. Like most here, it's fantastic to have a no nonsense/no gimmick Australian grower to help us 'newbies'. I only plant from seed. My adult daughter got me a seed subscription from The Seed Company. I can't recommend them highly enough. Just about every seed has germinated and sprouted. The ones that didn't were my 'learning' ones where I made a mistake. I grow in raised tubs I got from Bunnings. I made sure they were 45 cm deep. Not only that, but I also have 2 potato pots and a bunch of seed raising stuff. I'm having a bit of a problem with those damn green caterpillars eating my seedlings. I'm going to try to use some of your suggestions.

Coriander; this another one not to buy as a seedling. Sow the seed right where you want it, cover with a bit of seed mix, keep moist, and the seedlings will flourish and are much less likely to bolt ( go to seed).

Cheers for tue video! One of my kids planted mandarin seeds earlier this year, they all sprouted into beautiful dark green seedlings but then stopped growing... some have three leaves but most have their two dummy leaves. We will buy him a tree at some point :p

I use cheap pepper or chilli powder and sprinkle around my seedlings for snail and slug repellent.

I go out at night with a torch and pick the snails right off the plants. Collecting seaweed from the beach & soaking in a bucket of water for a few months will give you a concentrated form of seaweed fertiliser. Plant comfrey & harvest the leaves place in a bucket to soak for a few weeks & you have a natural concentrated fertiliser. If you soak stinging nettle with comfrey it's all your tomatoes need according to the famous Monty Don. Happy Gardening😊

I seem to be doing a lot of things sort of opposite but i do get the concept of what your saying and do aggree i thought i would get disease as you stated but that has not happened yet so was wondering does this happen more to younger plants ? Or plants with not enough nutrients? Im not sure which method ive used to make the plant well most of them giant stem wise n leaf wondering what your thoughts would be on this as im experimenting still any tips on removing root eaters as well would be grately appreciated

our springs suck, often being a mix of cold and hot spells, typically this way all the way to summer. wish i had a high tunnel. please keep reminding us when to do later sowings of summer crops. had a bumper crop of cherries first time, from a single dwarf tree, and managed to harvest before birds, without the hassle of netting. i've grown spuds a few times, with good results, but not my cup of tea anymore. the interesting thing about spuds is that whilst they can definitely rot in overly moist conditions, they break up clay soil somehow chemically into friable soil. how do they do that?

A similar hack to the bramble branch that my grandmother used to do to keep snails and slugs at bay was crushing up egg shells and scattering them around the base of the plants. The sharp edges keep the snails away.

You can cut up a soda/beer can into strips and use a pen to indent the plant names onto the strips. You can also get a garden marker(permanent markers don't last)and write the plant names on rocks.

I keep the net bags that you buy onions in and use them as net hammocks to support sugar baby watermelons, rock melons, and pumpkins when grown vertically.

I'm growing exclusively in grow bags. I've seen a video with hoop netting for grow bags but can't find a tutorial. Can you show how this would be done for a grow bag?

Wont the summer heat kill tomato plants?. Wandered around Bunnings today and they been leaving half their new seedlings dry out (bit shocked). Flower power is better but tomato plants were 50% off today (the plants are around a foot to 2-3 foot tall)....

So okay, my supermarket garlic came to nothing this year. I don't have a proper nursery near by, so I went online. Found a (Victorian) garlic specialist, and now I am confused as to what variety I should grow! Any suggestions? My climate (nth central Vic) is pretty much identical to Ballarat's temperatures (ie ridiculously colder in winter, stupidly hotter in summer). I will move to the other side of the mountains in a few years, but until then... what type should I grow?

I use the disposable wooden spoons from take-away places as seedling labels, or strips of plastic cut from bottles. I think the best cash saving hack is just some homemade worm farms! A daily dose of worm juice will keep the plants green, and having worm castings every few months is great too...

It should be remembered to not remove too many of the so called sun leaves when you know where the fruit is forming. The leaves serve a purpose in very hot and sunny conditions and can act as an umbrella on the fruit. Fruit tends to burn on hot sunny days creating blemishes on the skin. Making this comment for those that grow out in the open and not commercial type greenhouses.

Oh, my goodness!! I honestly love your videos!! But I do wish you had more advice for the poor souls living in the sand and heat in Perth!! I guess only a Perthian who has built up his soul from birth can grow veggies really well here! God bless you, your channel and each beautiful plant with fruitfulness and joy!!
