I agree with this when talked about in a war. But one on one longsword vs spear? If I manage to block or dodge a spear thrust, you know what I'd do next? I'd grab the shaft of the spear, and then thrust with my sword. But in a shield wall, yeah you aren't getting past a wall of spears. That's obvious. But spears are over hyped, I've fought against a spear user using a sword before in HEMA, it's not as good 1v1 as you say.

In blade and sorcery rapier and spear are The most OP melee weapon. The reason is easy - the game has limits of how deep you can slice your enemy, and even if your blade goes through your enemy's weapon or hand... it does nothing. You don't cut it off, and this cut doesn't makes him a worse fighter. The only cut that matters is a cut in a neck or a deep cut in head. But! Piercing the chest is way easier and way more effective. You don't have limits of how deep you can pierce, so you can pierce through which is instant death. So spear is OP for "early game" and rapier is OP for "late game". But magic in blade and sorcery is still even more OP.

depending on the spear's size and length, a mace secondary can be very good or kinda good. honestly this goes for having a mace as a secondary as a whole, it's just up to your primary weapons flexibility. Will say javelins and short-spears work best when using even the most basic of maces, but longer 2-handers tend to be a little tricky. holding the spear on the upper grip and one handing the mace works best if need me, for added control and a surprise sweeper in the form of the spears lower-grip and the rest of the handle. Mace deflects, Spear punctures.

4:37 I have made a bit of googling and the center of mass of a sword seem to be a bit higher than the grip and their is technic that involves grabbing the blade of your sword (it safer than it might sound) That said, for my knowledge, sword are generally better in close range, you’re just never going to get their, and if you do, that what back up sword are for. Also, I believe in polearm supremacy. Edit: A lot of polearm and alberd add a buttspike at the back, giving you a light spear if you need. You can also transition from buttspike to front with a very mean strick. Robinsword has made wuite a lot of video about albert (and sword, obviously)

I crave for survival games that have realistic firearms and weapons range/damage. I manage to do it on bethesda games with a shitton of mods, but the AI can't keep it up. I wish we had a fallout/Skyrim with some functional fandom.

14:31 You're describing an RPG. Not every game needs to be an RPG. You can make the argument that there aren't enough VR RPGs, sure, but a game that doesn't have RPG elements can still be a game.

first of all you can grab a sword at its centre its called halfswording. Now that this is out of the way...spears are great. there is legitimacy to the statement that closing in past its effective range is very dangerous for the spear user but people underestimate how hard it is to close in on a spear. its a very quick weapon that dominates a narrow corridor with its attack pattern so putting alot of these corridors next to each other or doing great footwork will make it very difficult for the opponent not to die while closing in. Its twohanded and heavier than most swords wich makes it difficult to push the point out of the way and hey people dont want to impale thmselves on a pointy stick so rushing in has also a psychological POINT to it....pun intended.

Yeah swords were mainly self defense or back up weapons, while spears and pole arms were the primary weapons on the battlefield. There’s been multiple tests done with sword vs spear and spear almost always wins. 👍 Even in some cases where the spear users were only experienced with swords yet still dominated with a spear. Swords are easier to carry and don’t get in the way as much as a long spear shaft does. Making swords better and more convenient back up weapons or self defense weapons. But on the battlefield spears dominate

watched another video of yours and talked about legendary tales in this one you said when blocking you can force block by shoving the parry and it stuns them but no real animation on them it does that in legendary tales too but its an animated stagger actually some blocks you need to push into or they go through and hit you when they do a heavy attack

that target area thing is in legendary tales a helmet gives you it and a talent does and you can use rondel daggers that way getting into gaps of armor which is what you would do not try to stab through the helmet but grapple and stab into the gaps in armor
