Bangadang Farm
Australia
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 26 ก.ค. 2020
Join us on our journey at Bangadang Farm to discover all that our land, water and animals can offer. From Permaculture practices to innovative aquaculture principles, we strive to better understand the land on which we are fortunate enough to operate. We are an international team, from all walks of life bringing skillsets from multiple disciplines to our work. We are amateur farm fanatics who are dedicated to trialling new ways of working this land we call home. We do not suggest that we are experts, but rather we invite you join us as we learn.
Our Marron Hatchery
The next stage of our Marron Project is underway! We’re focusing on establishing a consistent supply of juvenile marron within our operation. To achieve this, we’ve built floating crates in the dam and sorted our marron by sizes and gender which will allow us to better monitor their progress and ensure the success of our breeding efforts.
We base our ideas off existing aquaculture systems around the globe and would love to hear any thoughts on how anything that may help our operation so we can continue to share new ideas and methods.

We Removed Our Avocado Trees!
มุมมอง 2193 หลายเดือนก่อน
We've recently made a big change on our property. After much consideration, we've decided to remove most of our avocado trees. While we've left a few behind, the majority will be replaced with native trees over the next few months. By planting native trees, we hope to create a more eco-friendly and sustainable landscape. These native species will not only use less water and sprays but also prov...

How we care for our bees to prepare for Winter!
มุมมอง 2145 หลายเดือนก่อน
From the archives! This video was filmed last year before Winter. The previous year we had very little Marri flower on the trees, causing a food shortage for the bees who relied on us to keep feeding them sugar water and keep their honey inside the hives to continue surviving before and throughout Winter until the next floral season. As it was World Bee Day this week, we wanted to show another ...

What you call a maroon is very different from my definition.
Stunning, thanks for the update.
Er - not allysium, yarrow 😊
Looking incredible guys! Here's to a great spring to come! Also, the *second* you open up tours/visits, I'll be there! So please let us know! Cheers from Busselton 😊
We are getting a lot of enquiries about tours, haha, so we’ll keep you posted. Thank you 🙏🏼
To be frank your plants don’t look like their flourishing, keep up the rock dust and get a good 10 cm of animal manure compost on those beds especially for the vegetables you will see less of those weeds as they like low fertility soils, guano as well for P,and probably potassium sulphate for K and of course traces like copper zinc boron manganese etc happy gardening
Good stuff Darren that looks great, done a good job ...
Have you guys felt much of a difference since “The Settlement” treaty came into effect last year for Perth metro and south west? Along with the treaty, are you concerned the 1100m2 law will be back? Anyone wanting info on the settlement, you’ll find it on the WA government website. Hopefully the treaty isn’t causing your rates etc to go through the roof like it is others.
The Western Australian version of the Bold and the Beautiful.
Nice to see , The Dorset is such a better looking sheep than the average Australian one that we generally see. Good to see that they're still around
Hi, the cube fruit trees nets, do you buy them in that shape?
All the parts arrive separately and we put them together!
Hells yeah
great upgrade! looking forward to seeing the yield :))
Oh my mulberries looking similar as well. But last year it then lost pretty much all the fruit. Do you fertiliser them?
Any thoughts on demeter certification?
❤❤
Well done and thanks for putting this out there…👍
Date palms would be a nice addition to your lovely food forest.
Ah thanks for the suggestion!
Very interesting… where did you source the pontoons from? What brand?
If you search on the internet “UV pontoons China” you should be able to find similar
is there anyway to do a plant based food source? The fish in the fish food is likely important food for wild habitats...?
We have and continue to do trials on plant based foods, but we haven’t found a full replacement yet
Great job Darren, looks terrific. Have you considered a WA sandalwood tree component? Grow for the aromatic wood and nuts for food.
Thanks for your suggestion! We’ve heard they grow a lot up near Geraldton way, do you know if they grow well here?
@@bangadangfarm Hi Darren, yes they do. There are a number of plantations existing in the region.
Thanks we’ll look into it
@@bangadangfarm Feel free to contact me if you need assistance.
These are great. I'd happily watch a 30 minute video going into more detail
Cant wait to see what it looks like in a few years!
Well done... Love what you are doing 💚 Western Australia needs you. The world needs these natural plans. Much love 🥰
Do you have any issues with cormorants or do the hides provide all the protection needed?
We had a lot of issues with them which is another reason why we added hides and pallets, protection housing. Another idea we can explore is floating wetlands to protect everything underneath the surface from the shags
were the bags full of just compost? looked a little steamy when they were filling the bags
It was a mix we get from our local soil place! You're right, although they seem to have grown totally fine! See our latest update on their growth
Durian 😂
How do you manage the birds when the fruit is ripening? I’m in the southwest and growing a small food forest and the birds get the majority of the fruit if I don’t net every tree.
This happens to us too, we do put nets on some of our trees... We are trialing different bird lasers but haven't found a permanent solution yet! We try pick the fruit when they are ready to get there before the birds... Definitely more effort to keep on top of!
Good job
Awesome project you have there 👍 I hope the corellas and cockatoos dont find it 😁
The birds (and in turn the people) will thank you for all the native trees :)
Thanks 4 a WA show Les from Perth 🎯🎯🎯
please share where do you buy them ? I want to plant truffle trees too.
We got them from Pottinger Truffles in Manjimup! Dave and Julie are wonderful!
Great to see a farm done the right way. Its the way of the future. Your water pump filtration unit reminded me of something i heard Joel Salatin say about how he kept his water clean. He had floating containers that held the pipes (in your case could be the pumps?) at a certain level above the floor (to avoid dirt )and below the surface. Though his pond was above his main farm so he had gravity flow. Just an idea if you havent done this already. Maybe its a mute point anyway but thought id mention it anyway.
Thanks for sharing! We love hearing any experience or different ways to do things. Will pass on to the farm manager!
Why eucalyptus.. that's the worst thing one could grow unless you are looking for harvesting to make money
Oh! Why is it one of the worst things to grow?
@@bangadangfarm Eucalyptus trees don't share well with others. These trees quickly absorb nutrients and water from the soil, leaving other plants thirsty and malnourished. Also, Many plants produce compounds that will inhibit or stop the growth of nearby plants to better compete for nutrients, sunlight, and other resources. This phenomenon is known as allelopathy. Black walnut, maple, pine, and eucalyptus are some better-known examples of this.
Would you plan on selling saplings or is this predominantly for self use?
We haven’t thought about that option yet as this was our first year with our nursery. Definitely open to it in the future!
Great Perth WA show thanks Les from Perth 🎯🎯🎯

Great to see this video from a grower in WA. Living in Perth I do wonder who’s out there ‘food foresting’. 👏
Same! Love seeing a fellow Western Australian!
Yes! I am curious if anyone else has noticed an increase with fees with the new treaty that covers Perth metro and the south west? It’s on the wa government website.
@@HGCUPCAKES tx for the post. So u have to pay a fee for food foresting ? Nothing surprises me but it does disgust me
I love your farm well done Thank you for sharing it with us
