Does this work with GenerLink?
That’s a good questions but I’m not sure I know the answer to it. Hope you find out 👍
Try scoring the fat side next time
Good job Kev. I live in SW Florida. I bought this generator a few month ago. other than testing it every six weeks, I hope to never have to use it. Advise putting a trickle charger on it - very inexpensive. Also, don't use regular gas. Use only ethanol free gas.
Good advice thank you 👍
BTW. Our local electric cooperative LCEC installed a Generlink directly to my meter (50 amp cable). Cost about $1,000 installed. It completely bypasses and cuts off the main power coming from the utility co. when the plug is connected to the Generlink.
Great video thank you . I just bought a champion 11250/9000 and looking forward to seeing what it can do . I will also look to get the transfer switch method seems to be the most affordable
Нельзя делать так во время гнездовье..
Great video, I’m planning on getting this generator, my house is 2400sqft. Do u think this is enough to power my entire house? I heard u mention that it won’t power ur entire house…lol…not sure how big ur home is…so I’m just asking for a 2400sqft home. Thank you💯
Thanks. I would guess it may struggle to power a whole home. Although I was considering the option of changing my set up from the 10 breaker panel that I added and going to a transfer switch at the meter. I would like to have the ability to run more on my home than 10 breakers…
@@kevshomesteadhi-jinks4071 OK cool… thank u so much for that information, the only reason I wanted to purchase that one because of the inverter. Mainly because of the noise…
How many hours do you have on it I have 50 hours on mine but battery is dead
I only have about 25 hours on mine. Sorry to hear about yours
How the battery life mine went dead already
I’ve had no issues in 2 years. I run about once a month and will be getting a trickle charger soon too just to be safe.
What about running 2 of these parallel? Does it have the plug for that?
This unit does not have the “Para-link” plugs like some of their other units.
@@kevshomesteadhi-jinks4071 ok thank you
Have you tan it on natural gas yet?
No I’ve only used gas but so far so good 👍
@@kevshomesteadhi-jinks4071 ok gotcha. Thanks
Man I’m sorry to bother you again about the natural gas knowing you don’t use it..but do you know if the natural gas hose that came with it is 3/4 or 1/2? And does it have quick connects on each end of it?
Sorry l guess I didn’t really specify in the video or my answer before but mine is the single fuel gas only one. I don’t have the option for natural gas.
@@kevshomesteadhi-jinks4071 oh ok gotcha man. Thank you
Makesure you build a box for your generator cause it cannot get wet. I built an cement box with ventilated roof so it stays dry but ventilates bad air. You’d be surprised how many people have all figured out until an hurricane comes along and couldn’t use their generator cause they forgot to build an outdoor storage for it 👍🏼🤓💡
I noticed the Bengals and Reds stickers on your fridge! I'm in Cincinnati and guessing you're close!
Over an hour away, still gotta root for them though 👍
Just curious…if their partially frozen, why would you not instead put them through the blender then into the strainer bag? Would that work?
That could probably be done too. I would think you may end up with more particles to settle out after fermentation but maybe the end result would be similar.
I need to relocate a hoard of starlings at my house. If everyone relocated starlings, they wouldn't be the harbinger of evil and destruction they are. Thanks for the great trap idea.
Have you tried kiwis?
Never tried those but would always be worth a try
Just got my 4 1 gallon carboys, a couple food grade 5 gallon buckets, and one of those testers. I'm gonna be following this exact recipe for my first go at it. I'll let you know how it goes
Good luck 👍👍
Can you tell me the width and length of the griddle, I'm trying to find a cover that fits this correctly.
64.5” W x 25.75” D x 40” H
Eleven minute video and I swear I never heard you say what temp to set the dehydrator at. So?
I keep mine cranked up to 155F for jerky. Still depends on surrounding temp and humidity for how long it takes but I never have it turned down below that.
They are excellent fertilizer in the garden for tomatoes and a decent fishing bait for big catfish.
How often do you change the oil and is it easy to change
I changed the initial break in oil after 5 hours and then I will change annually even though it doesn’t get a lot of use. There is a drain tube to drain the oil out which is nice, it’s just good to get it elevated to help if possible.
Does this have an economy mode
Yes it does 👍
When it comes to pellets, it is all a matter of preference. Folks just starting out think a pellet smoker will give the same results as a stick burner, it will not however, with experience and experimenting with different methods and pellets can get you really close. I own 2 Pitboss 1000 series smokers, an upright smoker, a cold smoker i built and i keep busy enough to start a business if i chose (and i do not) lol
All good advice. Thanks for the info. I’m starting to find a few go-to’s for pellets and recipes after a few years. 👍
Relocators are cheap.
How’s the noise? I’ve had a regular open frame generator that was really loud. Curious if the inverter is quieter?
I will say that this is a little noisier than I would like but understandable with it being an open frame. I can’t complain… when I’m in the house I can barely hear it. Thanks for watching 👍
Just an observation, leaving the lid open so long will take a while to recover the heat with it so cold outside. I have an insulating blanket on my PB and it works really well.
Tripping over the cat made my day. 😂🤣😂
Great video! Your house looks immaculate. Do you know if this generator can be paralleled with another generator to get double running watts? I know the smaller inverter units can be but I wasn’t sure about this one?
Thanks for the compliments! I couldn’t say for sure on your question to be honest… I’ve heard of that being done but I’ve never done it myself. Sorry I can’t help with more info. Thanks for watching 👍
I am trying to decide between the champion 10000 watt and 9000 w/ inverter for whole house backup. I have a 3 ton ac unit, gas water heater, gas stove, and gas furnace, normal everything else in a 2200 sq ft home. I think both would be great options but am deciding between the extra 1000 watts or the inverter with sine wave. Any thoughts? Thanks!
I’ve always been partial to inverter generators for the clean power and I think they’re a little more efficient. At least for home power and electronics. That’s just my opinion…
Thank you! I just called champion and they said they’re non inverter units are safe for electronics and if they get to an unsafe thd level they automatically shut off….thought that was interesting. Thanks for your advice!
Hey! Awesome video. Watched and made my own tonight! What is your instagram?
I actually don’t have an instagram anymore but appreciate the comment. Hope yours turned out great! Thanks for watching 👍
Do you have any tips on the material, size, and pivot mechanism for the metal plate? Thanks for the video!
I believe I had some 1/8” metal rod lying around that I used for the floor to pivot on. I used aluminum flashing just like the guy’s website stated. I also followed his instructions on the size. One of the hardest and time consuming parts was cutting and bending the floor but it was worth it in the end. Thanks for watching 👍
Use nitrile gloves, Score you fat cap with diagonal slices to make diamonds, only the fat not the meat, try heathe riles honey rub or meat church Texas sugar, add a small tin pan with apple cider vinegar, also only shred what you need and leave the rest together until you’re ready for more so it keeps the juices in
Awesome I’ll have to try all those, thanks 👍
I just purchased the Pit Boss 1150. I haven't used it yet but my question when you plug the meat probe in does it show up on the display?
Yes it’ll show up along the bottom in smaller sized numbers. Good luck and enjoy 👍
Any opinion on this model version duel fuel 8500 watt version? I'd like the option of using propane but not sure its worth extra $ & less power. Thanks.
I don’t have any knowledge on that model but I will say that I feel mine could power more than the 10 breakers that I have selected for it. Hope you have good luck if you go that route 👍
I need nowww
I had a champion phone rep tell me your supposed to put the generator under a 50% load when you run it once a month to work the charging circuit & keep it healthy too. Don’t know if it’s true but it does make sense to me. Any thoughts on that?
I guess I could see that being beneficial but I can’t say that I’ve ever done it. I’ve only really had it under load a few times and all other times I just run it to keep the battery and everything in good shape. Maybe not a bad tip though 👍
WELL, BIG KEV…… I WATCHED THE WHOLE VIDEO,I WAS WAITING FOR THE BEND TEST AND TASTE TEST.. 😢 HOPE KITTY 🐈⬛ WAS OK😊
Cat was all good and jerky was even better… thanks for watching 👍
I don't have that generator yet but I e had one of their log splitters about 3 years ago. I found at that time they had excellent cust service. I had an issue with a part missing and they sent one and didn't even ask fory proof of purchase. That's why I'm getting their generator.
I've called them a few times for parts over the years. They've always sent me stuff for free. I have 4 generators and they sent me high altitude jet kits for each at no charge. I will continue buying their stuff, my current generators have never failed me.
I’ve been using Champion generators since 2014. My unit is model 100155, originally dual fuel, but put a natural gas kit on it. I have used to through multiple hurricanes (most recently lost power for over a week in Houston) and the great Texas freeze. With minimal maintenance (oil change once a year or as needed, changed the spark plug once, cleaned air filter twice) it has run and never let me down. I recommend Champion to everyone.
Would this be enough power to run a hvac unit on a single wide mobile home?
I’m honestly not very family with how much power one of those would take so I don’t want to steer you wrong. As long as the watts used is less than the running watts of the generator, should be good to go. Good luck and thanks for watching 👍
W/ a soft start, yes, for sure
You should be able to run the whole house with that genie. Not everything at once but one or 2 at a time.
Yeah I’d say it probably has enough power to do more than 10 breakers 👍
Thats pretty cool Great alternative
How do you still like the 1150? Thinking of getting one soon
Going on two years and still a big fan of it. Sadly I just wish I had more time to use it and smoke more… good luck 👍
Kev, Thanks for the very informative video, that's the generator that I'm considering and you have helped me make an informed decision.
Glad to hear it, good luck 👍
Did you get a chance to use the generator to power your welding machine and was it able to provide adequate power for the welding?
I only used it once for a small job and it did fine. I have a 230 amp welder but wasn’t turned all the way up. According to some calculations, it should be enough to run at max load but haven’t tried that yet.
Does the 50 amp plug actually produce 50 amps, or is it just a 50 amp style plug? All the descriptions I read state it’s a “30.2 amp receptacle.
Good question. It’s a 14-50 plug that says 50 amp but according to the website it’s 30.2 running amps for 240V like you mentioned as well.
No. 50 amps times 240 volts = 12,000 watts, and this model is only rated to produce 9,000. Obviously, it's very useful for loads that don't need max current from that outlet (virtually all 240 VAC loads).
I learned a lot from this video do you have any for turkey drumsticks
I haven’t tried any of those yet but hopefully sometime in the future. Thanks 👍
Well done, nice instructions very clear..like your wine..I hope..haha
Hope so too! Good luck 👍
Nice video? Question on your smoker!! I seen you sealed the door with a gasket? Do you get a lot smoke coming out of the ash management lid? If so how you handling that
I don’t have too much trouble with smoke coming out of the bottom for the ash tray. It has a factory installed gasket on it so I think that helps. Thanks for watching 👍
Really nice video. I’m seriously considering getting this as home backup power. One question is why did you not use the 50 amp 240 outlet to connect to your house? That’s what I was considering doing.
The main reason I used the twist lock plug is the ease of installation with the transfer switch. Since it came as a kit with the plug for the outside of the house, I went that route. I think for what I’ll be using it for, there wont be any issues of not having enough power. Good luck and thanks for watching 👍
Is this a floating neutral?
NO!
*Exactly one grounded neutral is needed*. The house already has that, so for home use, the generator neutral must not be grounded to the generator frame. But if he goes out in a field to weld, that required ground must be done at the generator.
Good info..how did you disconnect the neutral bonding..to make floating neutral..I have 50amp transfer switch
You have to disconnect the fuel line from the tank and then remove the fuel tank from the top. It’s bonded on the top corner under the fuel tank so you just remove that connection. It doesn’t have the most clear instructions for doing so but not hard to do.
Why do you want a floating neutral? My Gen inlet is connected to the main panel outside and is grounded inside the panel. Would I need to do anything to the gen with my setup?
This is a helpful article to explain a little better than I can do in the comments. 👍 www.electronicshub.org/bonded-neutral-vs-floating-neutral/
@@kevshomesteadhi-jinks4071 thanks!
@@troyd.521Because your house has a bonded neutral at the main panel. You DO NOT want your neutral bonded at both locations. Parallel paths if there’s a fault. Breakers may not trip.
I like the sweet heat rub from pitboss makes a good pork butt
