Wales' Covid 19 fire-break Autumn 2020 bike ride.

Out for some daily exercise on my bicycle during Wales' 2 week fire-break lockdown in Autumn 2020. Travelling through Llanwern village, Redwick, Goldcliff and returning from the sea wall, Newport south Wales.
Social distancing on my bicycle. Spring 2020 lockdown.

Out for a bicycle ride and some much needed exercise. During the UK wide Covid 19 lock down of spring 2020 the UK Government states we can still go for a bicycle ride for exercise once a day providing we are alone. Let's all use our heads and get through this, stay safe everyone.

Ringland shops Newport
มุมมอง 2.9K5 ปีที่แล้ว
A view of Ringland shops, the Friendship pub and the famous Ringland octagonal library from the back of my bike before the soon imminent demolition of them all. The shops were built in, I believe, 1966. I was 5 when I moved to Ringland the year later and to me the shops were amazing. There were several fountains, a large clock that to me resembled Big Ben, a sweet shop, toy shop and many more s...

This is a view of Howe circle and Anson green from the back of my bike. I moved to Howe circle in 1967 aged 5 and lived there until I got married in 1982. I had some happy days living and playing there as a kid and wouldn't have wanted to grow up anywhere else. I remember in the 1970's from one end of Howe circle to the other there was probably no more than 10 cars, it's a little different toda...

Follyfoot filming locations
มุมมอง 15K9 ปีที่แล้ว
Follyfoot was filmed in the early 1970's near the Harewood estate in Yorkshire. This video shows a few locations recorded in June 2014 this is where Yorkshire Television filmed parts of the series. If you're a big fan you'll recognise them.

A trip to Thunder road motorcycles in Bridgend on a Honda GL1500se Goldwing for probably one of the best breakfasts in south Wales. Oh and there's some really nice bikes there too :) The traffic was bad on the way home through Cowbridge but hey who cares, good day out.

An autumn ride through Tintern in Wales. The village of Tintern is the stunning home to the spectacular ruins of a world famous Cistercian abbey and to an ancient industrial heritage. Nestled quietly in the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it is a wonderful place in which to live, to raise families and to enjoy the spirit of community. Tintern also warmly welcomes the many visitor...

Many thanks to the staff at Grange Trekking and Camilla the horse. I really enjoyed myself and the views were stunning. If you think it looks good on the video wait until you get there, it's absolutely breath taking. I'd recommend a visit to Grange Trekking to anyone, you won't be disappointed.

This section of Swindon Lane was used when Steve rides Rons bike and turns off to ride across the fields to the farm, the turn off is shown clearer at the end of the video. It was also used to film the scene where Dora is on the back as Steve rides Rons bike. It's also the road that you see Ron racing Lewis on their motorbikes. Ron breaks down (again) and Lewis locks his back wheel and skids. R...

    I just came across this video from a search, thank you for showcasing the beauty of the Rhondda Valley. The Rhigos has changed with the addition of the wind turbines, but the Bwlch remains imposing and stunning. I can imagine that you enjoyed the ride, I hear many a biker accelerating up that road on sunny days. The mountain has been really popular for parascending too. Thank you, really enjoyed the video.

    I used to own two horses, until they sadly passed away. This reminds me of riding through the country lanes. I was a child and not sure if I watched follyfoot on repeats way after it was first aired or if I recognised the actors from the cover of the two books I had. I grew up dreaming of having a horse of my own and finally made it reality

      0:27 Stockeld park, 0:40 Hollin hall ponds (near Follyfoot farm), 1:00 Forge lane, 1:18 Harewood town hall, 1:44 Thorner, 2:45 Clap gate. All roughly between Leeds and Harrogate UK. Follyfoot farm, the actual building, is now a private residence and completely modernised and unrecognisable, the nearby area hasn't changed much though.

    Tonite i finally discovered on TH-cam the tv drama series Follyfoot..what a great discovery.. For many years i had been trying to remember the title of this drama series..i could only remember the beautiful faces of the two teenaged actors, but dont remember their real name.. I watched it when i was 10 y.o..now i m 59..so happy i could watch the real location the drama was shot.. I like the song very much.. Is it called Lightning??

    • @tonysmith8953
      @tonysmith8953 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the comment. The song was called 'The lightning tree' and was sung by 'The Settlers' Follyfoot has a Facebook group that's called FOLLYFOOT TV SERIES. There are some pictures and videos of Gillian Blake who played Dora on there, Gillian's son Jake is a member of the group. Follyfoot was mainly filmed at Hollin hall Leeds, this is now a private dwelling with a large extension. Some of the out buildings have been knocked down. There is a public footpath that runs past the house but the house is private property. The actor that played Steve is called Steve Hodson. I'm also 59 and watched Follyfoot when I was 10. I also think it was Follyfoot that gave me a life long love of motorbikes.

    Part of The Innocents was filmed at The Combs, Thornhill. The buildings were demolished in 2015 sadly but I got some of them on film

    • @tonysmith8953
      @tonysmith8953 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the comment. In 2014 members of the Follyfoot website Forum, including myself, visited Thornhill colliery where the innocents was filmed. The buildings and grounds was being used as Kirklees council building maintenance depot. The depot foreman Rick organised the visit and showed us around. He introduced us to a retired miner who had some nice memories and pictures of the mine when Follyfoot was filmed there. The management made us feel welcome with refreshments, it was a great day, we all had lunch in the local pub afterwards. Sad it was demolished the following year. I have several still photos of the day, somewhere, but no video footage. I was keeping my batteries for my visit to Stockeld park in the afternoon. The memories came flooding back when you walked around the grounds and it was easy to identify some of the areas outside the mine from The innocents. Great day.

      Thank you for the comment Justin. The Imp does look the part parked there. You should get yourself to Yorkshire and have a ride around and reminisce. It's a great part of the country with some nice B&B's near by. When I was a kid in the 70's watching Ron on his motorbike I never thought I'd be riding those roads. Really enjoyed myself making these videos.

    I loved it as a kid, then as you get into working, you forget about these great programmes. Then it weren't till about 10 years ago that I started wanting to reminisce about these programmes I watched as a kid and started finding them on You Tube. I always remembered Follyfoot as it had Arthur English in it, who I had always admired as an actor. Some things like the BBC kids programme The Changes and The Phoenix and The Carpet, I had totally forgotten the name of, but remembered what they were about, then eventually found them too.

    omg Tony Smith... what an awesome video. I felt like i was on the bike with you, and that haunting song/music is unreal. Loved every second of this. i wish i knew how to save it to my computer. My mum and her family came from/lived in Treorchy, we used to always go there school holidays, dad was from London, thats where we lived. Until we all migrated out here to Australia. Ive taken my own daughterfor a holiday to south wales/Treorchy and she too loves the place. this brought a tear to my eyes. well done. I loved the whole video. mind you.. at 11.20 time.. my daughter and i walked the Bwulch (not sure of spelling) to that spot from Treorchy. took us an hour. lol . I remember there used to be an Andy Capp and Flo drawing on a wall right on that corner. It got pulled down... sadly. thank you once again
