Welcome to Random Tasks. The videos I have created cover various projects that I've undertaken over the years. I have no mechanical or electrical training; I am just another shade tree mechanic fitting these types of projects into my nights and weekends. I hope you enjoy the content, and please like and subscribe if you do.
Repairing the AC Outlet on a Yamaha AV Receiver
In this video, I repair the AC outlet of my Yamaha RX-V657 AV receiver. The AC outlet is connected to a custom relay circuit that powers on a 500W transformer, which in turn provides power to my dual cassette deck and CD player. Yes, I still have and use a cassette deck and CD player.

Hello, do you know how long the antenna is when is closed? Or could ypu measure the aluminium rod that houses the antenna?
Sorry, I sold the car back in Feb.
For anyone watching this, the name of the App on the iOS appstore has changed to "YYBMS" They also changed the board since this video. All the holes line up and all the original Niu connectors now work plug-and-play, except for the temperature sensors, these still have to be replaced with the ones coming with the board
How do I get the top bolts back in at top of shock
It’s not easy, especially if you’re not using a lift. I had to hold the top of the shock with one hand and feel around blindly with the other and screw the bolts in by hand at first.
Which one do you buy BMS because mine is damaged and I want to buy the one you have
There’s a link in the video’s description to the one I bought.
Have the same car an model as you, cant i just change the speakers or?
Yes, assuming that they are all working now. In my case, the front speakers (powered by the external amp) weren’t working because the amp was dead, so I needed to replace that as well.
Is there front seats from 9-5?
No, they are the stock 9-3 Aero seats.
Perfect
what is a brand of the new DIC
It was a Genuine Saab DIC from partsforsaabs.com
Thank you so much for sharing your repair of the automatic Saab 9-3 antenna. I own a Saab 9-3 Cabrio and discovered that one piece of the antenna doesn’t come out. So it’s always very nice and usefull to be able examine the actions of somebody else! I do now have an idea how it is constructed which make it a lot more comfortable to start tryingto repair it. Greeting from the Netherlands 😉
Glad to help!
hi, Friend, how should we contact you ?
Thanks great vid. Does someone know a vid about placing a double din radio in this saab 9-3? I can only found about second saab 9-3..
I haven’t seen a video, but it is covered in a few Saab forums: www.saabcentral.com/threads/og-9-3-double-din-install.748606/
Thank you
You’re welcome
Mooi gedaan!

The SIP website shows the middle bar of the light lit up, I didn't see that in your video - just the lower half and the top half. Is there a reason for that?
Yes, I initially didn’t connect the middle bar as I was short a 12V feed. I wanted something that was independent of high and low beam. I connected it later and didn’t film it.
@@randomtasks ok. Will you be doing a video that shows the full installation?
I need to service the headset and replace the bearings anyway, so assuming I do that myself, I will make another video showing the final configuration of the light.
I just posted a follow up video that shows the middle bar connection: th-cam.com/video/lFSld-GQQPQ/w-d-xo.html
Really nothing wrong with the old one (I've seen 'em a thousand x's worse). Your struggle to remove the original proves this. I'd have just cleaned the original and wiped it down with a little Armor All. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" Doubtful the new, hard plastic edition is gonna stay in place for long, especially considering the minimal amount of adhesive applied. Don't look for solutions to problems that dont exist......
I have a '64 Raleigh with the same hub, horizontal top tube. These bikes with the north road handlebars are great to ride. I've been through and ridden around 15 different bikes. These types are my favourite. They aren't 'performance' bikes but they sure are fun to ride whilst watching the world go by. It's that upright position. The Raleigh 'Huffy Sportsman' will last many more decades.
Yeah, my wife loves the bike and refuses to replace it with a modern, lighter, faster bike.
Have the same box for the last 29 yrs what size latches did you use one of mine is broken plus what did you use to divide the top of the case looks like a thin piece of plastic so the sockets dont fall out
I used some basic latches from the hardware store that are 2 cm wide and 4 cm long. I initially used them on the plastic case, but then when the rear hinge split, I gave up on the plastic case. As for keeping the bits in place, it’s a piece of roughly 1 cm thick stiff foam. I used in my plastic case initially for the same reason.
On my 9-5 -06 there is no black plastic under the soft plastic just a hole with some green connector deep down.
how can you work in gloves that thick?
Practice, but they’re not that thick, and I didn’t wear them while packing the bearings.
Did you change the rear speakers?
Yes, check the description for the exact model. They are fairly easy to swap out.
@@randomtasks thanks, gotta check then out. Did you have to do any fitting work or did they just go straight in
@@Attack-fb5rj There was no modification work required, although I think I might have mounted them from the bottom instead of the top. I would need to watch the video to check, so I recommend you do that.
The speakers are covered in the Part 1 video.
@@randomtasks allright, I somehow missed the part where you did the rear speaker install but I will look again. Been looking for fitting size speakers for the 9-3, thanks a lot.
Are you happy with the replacement headlight fixture ? When i did mine a year and a half ago it was a instant difference. It took me longer to decide what headlight replacement i wanted then it did to install it. How donyou feel about your new headlight?
I like it. It’s definitely brighter, but more importantly, it has a nice flat beam. I’ll probably like it even more in winter on my dark commute.
Just in case James Benedict does not respond on the paragraph I wrote on "1988-1996 Jeep Cherokee Radio Repair," I would like your input on doing repairs like inoperative cassette modules, left or right channel loss and low volume. You can comment below after you read what I wrote.
You must live in Canada with a 200kilo speedometer and those old townhouses and such. At least you don`t have a steering wheel on the passenger side.
Was it possible to open up the ECU as well? Or was it glued tight together?
It is possible to open it up. It was just screwed together.
Im very interested in this as it seems to be the way forward, any info on insurance? is it more or less expensive. Cheers
It’s more expensive because there are less companies that offer insurance for electric motorbikes/scooters. Once more companies offer it, the prices should drop. I had to change insurance companies after the conversion.
Was hoping to see cable connected to Speedo on headset
It’s hard to get a shot of that in video. There’s very little slack. It just clicks into place.

Hi, please could you help me with service manual? I have this radio but deck do not accept cassette. Thanks. Luca
Hi Luca, sorry, but I’ve never fixed a cassette deck before. I created this based on forum threads that I had read. I suggest you do some research on relevant forums and see if anyone else has had the same problem and managed to solve it.
Sorry if I didn't catch it, but how long did this conversion take you to do and how much did it cost (without scooter)?
I did this over the course of 2 months, working only on weekends. Part of that time was spent mocking up the coupling bracket between the two swing arms, and then waiting for it to be manufactured. If I were to do the same exact conversion again, I would order what I needed ahead of time and could get it done in two weekends. As for cost, the bracket was roughly £200 and the aftermarket performance controller was about £300. I already had all of the NIU components, so that was probably about £800 worth of stuff, including the battery and charger.
@@randomtasksthanks for the info. I have a 2016 Sprint with a blown motor and was thinking whether I should pick up a used motor for around $800-$1000 or try a EV conversion. I'm mechanically inclined but I'm a total n00b to the EV game. So that has me a little trigger shy.
If you can find one, the ideal donor would be an electric moped that’s been in an accident. You need the whole wiring harness and lots of little components, so it’s best to get a whole moped if you can.
@@randomtasks ah ok ok, thanks. Any insights on which ones I should be looking out for?
@@tonytran1420 The NIU scooters are fairly reliable and common. As I showed in the videos, the NQI series battery fit perfectly under my seat. The MQI batteries are a different shape, so you need to take that into account if you find one of those. Super Soco scooters are good as well, but I’m not sure what the batteries are like in terms of dimensions. Take some measurements of the under seat storage of your Sprint and do some research on battery dimensions.
Thanks for the video
No problem!
Hey I have the same problem, where can i find this BMS for batery
I got mine from Aliexpress. The vendors change all the time, so you just need to search their site and you’ll eventually find the right one.
hi, Friend, we are Yanyang BMS Factory in China can provide NIU BMS, You want BMS For NIU Which battery ?
really great video, thanks for sharing! are there detailed instructions on how to wire the amp anywhere? or did you already just have this knowlege? also, did you find it absolutely necessary to create that mount from scrap metal, or is it possible to secure the amp to the stock setup? Ive replaced my speakers but things still dont sound great and I'm assuming it's a power issue so thinking an amp replacement is probably necessary.
I’m glad you liked it. Admittedly, I’ve installed dozens of audio systems, so I might have glossed over the wiring. Basically, an amp needs constant power, a ground, and a remote turn on signal (so it turns on and off with the stereo). Given that there was an old amp that had power and ground wires, I reused them. I tested which wire was which with my multi meter. For the remote turn on, I connected the wire to the power antenna connection. Other than that, its audio in and audio out.
@@randomtasks very helpful, THANKS!
Looking for a cost effective way to add aux or Bluetooth to an og 9-3. Cdconnect is a nearly $200. Is there an alternative way to accomplish this? Love the idea of the cdconnect, but that price is steep.. For that price I could add an aftermarket head unit
I’ve got another video on how I modified a Jeep head unit to add an aux input. There might be away to do something similar, but I haven’t investigated it. Alternatively, you could do an FM modulator.
Is the GPS in the ecu?
For the first generation ECU (up until early 2018), the GPS is inside the ECU. For the 2nd and 3rd generation ECU, it’s mounted on the outside of the ECU case.
Where is the GPS in these?
See my response to your comment on my other video.
Thank you
minuto 3:20 la moto es blanca, despues e s verde?? no entiendo,,, y la ECU??
Yes, this is an excerpt of my body panel swap video where I swap the white panels for green. The ECU is the black box that I point out in the video.
el titulo del video dice una cosa pero el señor hace otra,, crei q le iba a quitar la bateria de la ECU,,, YA Q TENGO UN PROBLEMA CON LA ecu
I never said that I would show you how to remove the battery from the ECU, just how to remove the ECU itself. You can open up the ECU yourself, but you will void your warranty (if you still have one).
ottimo video si capisce tutto per bene di come hai messo la nuova copertura!

Hello, Thanks for the video. I have two Niu 60B2 batteries. Both batteries blink 3 times when I press button on top. I check voltage of package, which is good (61V and 58V). At one battery the celles are not in balance anymore, I suspect a faulty cel. The other one is balanced nicely. Now I am searching internet for a new BMS, but the link in your description is not working anymore. You have any other suppliers? Als, does anyone know what signal the 3 small pins in the connector give to the charger and/or the scooter? Thx!
Hi, just search for "NIU BMS" on AliExpress.com and you will find a few for sale. You just need to find one that works with the voltage and amperage ratings of your battery. www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-niu-bms.html?spm=a2g0o.home.search.0

Doesn't the pure highway 600 output in Mono only?
No, it has a stereo output.
Hey man, I have the same problem with mine 93 from 98, how did this fix perform? Did it solve the problem?
Yes and no. The gaskets stopped water getting in the lights and from entering the boot around that area. I also found water leaking in from one of the seams halfway up the edge of the hatch. I used some silicon and that seemed to help.
Also, if I were to do it again, I would probably opt for 3mm thick neoprene.
Why did you not opt for extra sound padding in the doors, and what can i expect music wise, is it really good? Going to use your tips to fix our really broken 2001 blue aero
I didn’t go it because I didn’t have any handy. Either way, it sounded good to me. I was happy with the setup.
i really enjoy watching you making a old petrol vespa useful again for 2024 and above good job
Thank you very much!
Good to see someone hanging on to their US made Craftsman tools. Not too confident about the new box tho. Maybe a little reinforcement at each corner? I remember buying my "mechanic's set" back in the early nineties. Similar looking case to yours w texture on the outside and a tray that lifted up/out for access to one big compartment beneath it. Lent it to a friend who babysat it for almost a decade. Only thing wrong is one of the plastic latches came off years ago while the other doesn't do its job anymore. O and I'm constantly replenishing the 10mm sockets, both short and deep, 1/4" and 3/8" drive. Your vid got the gears spinning now. Gonna check back to see 1yr 3yr updates.
Thanks, I’m going to add some protection on the outside after I sand and oil the case. The thinness of the bottom panel does worry me, but it will mostly be standing on end or laying on the bottom panel, so it might be OK. If something happens, I can repair it, unlike the old plastic case.
I love those Saabs I have a 2002 Saab convertible as my second car. Great video thank you subscribing for the Saab 93 content.
Thanks for the sub!
Is it really necessary to take off the entire door panel to access the speaker?
Yes, almost every car is like this. Even if the speaker grill can be removed separately from the door panel, it’s usually held in place by fasteners that must be accessed from the back.
Nice video , thx. Just thinking why BMS blocking or stops the charger to recharge batteries ? Is this because of software on chip or some fuse on this plate is broken ? Couse normally no one need to change BMS Plate only because of safety function! -I am wonder why NIU don’t tell on the true what to change on plate or how to reset BMS Function !? 😀🙋🏼♂️🍺 THIS wil cost maybe not more then 5$!
I'm glad you liked the video. I have no idea what the problem is with the BMS, but replacing it is a lot cheaper than replacing the battery. Obviously a $5 fix would be even better.
And what is the solution for reset?
@@Gehtdichnichtsan583 You could try disconnecting the BMS, waiting a few minutes, and then plugging it back in. I heard once that this might work, but I have never tried it.
@@randomtasks I already tried that no chance. I guess new bms then for me too
Good job! I have the same problem with my 2002 9-3. Did replacing the seals on the taillights stop the leak? I'm about to replace the seals on mine and it looks like there is an additional leak from higher up - from the gutter, at a seem in the metal, inboard of the antennae.
This helped a bit, but I also had/have the problem with water coming in via the seem. I used some silicon on both sides and managed to fix on the left side, but I still have the problem on the right. I might have fixed it yesterday. I removed the rubber gasket going on the right side of the gutter and noticed that the metal was bent down, which could have allowed a path for water. I fixed it and reinstalled it. It rained last night, so I need to go check for water . . .
Thanks for that additional information about the seam. Too cold in Connecticut right now to use silicone or other sealer so I put some of that silver tape (the thin aluminum tape used for insulation) over the seam on the side that leaked and that stopped it completely. I had previously sealed up the taillight but still had some leakage. @@randomtasks
What is the stock bms max amps for this battery??
Discharge
It’s a 29ah battery. The batteries in the NGT and GTS versions are 35ah.
Hey! Thanks for the video! Really helpful! I have just fixed my antena. But it seemed like the problem was the blocking sleeve.
You're welcome!
