Simple watercolour warmups to unlock your full creative potential
All watercolourists should practice doing watercolour warmups because these simple exercises help you develop better hand-eye coordination, muscle memory, and water control skills. As a result, it’s easier for you to lay down brushstrokes and apply techniques. That means practicing easy watercolour exercises improves your overall painting performance so you can easily get into the flow of painting. So in this video, you learn how to practice various brushstrokes, paint simple textures, and do quick value studies to set you up for success with your watercolour paintings!

Yes, I create art with watercolour pencils, but I haven't done so in a long time. However, I can add this idea to my list and maybe in the near future I'll make a watercolour pencils tutorial.

Hi I am just beginning and have painted this picture , however my paper as curled can you advise please?
Hi Ruth! Good question! Watercolour paper curls for several reasons. The first thing to to check is if you taped the corners of your paper down. If you didn't, the paper will curl as it absorbs water. The second thing to consider is how much water you used while painting the layers. If you used too much water, the paper might curl and warp. The third thing to consider is the quality of your paper. If you're using wood pulp or cellulose paper, it can't absorb a lot of water without curling or buckling. In this case, use less water while you're painting so that the paper can handle the water more easily. And to smooth out the paper after it has curled, lay it face down on a table and place something heavy on it (like a stack of books) to flatten the paper out. I hope you find these solutions helpful!
Thank you for this step by step galaxy, not to mention showing how to fix errors so that we don’t bin our masterpieces! 😂🖌️🎨👩🏻🎨🥰🏴
You're welcome! Knowing how to troubleshoot your painting mistakes is such an underrated skill, so I'm glad you enjoyed that section of the tutorial!

Overwhelming ❤ love these and I’m going to start saving now.
Jill, they really are the least expensive of any of the good markers. You can get smaller sets - you don't need one that large. ;)
@@celticpeasant9753 Thanks for sharing your input, Zoie! That's such great advice, and I totally agree with you. Jill, if a large set of markers is too overwhelming, you can start with a smaller set and then purchase additional marker sets in the future to expand your collection. I hope you find this advice helpful!
@@celticpeasant9753 my anniversary is coming up and this is what I want! They can keep the diamonds and jewels, just give me more art supplies!😎
I have used Ohuhu markers for a year now. I had only used the colorless blender to blend inks together and thought it was very cool how you used it. I can give two big thumbs up for the markers - the only thing that I noticed with them is that it is absolutely necessary to swatch with what colors you want to use on the paper you will be using them on. I don't have that particular pad of Ohuhu paper but I absolutely love their paper products and I have two journal type books. I noticed when I used my markers with them that the colours are not the same in most cases as the swatch papers - still they do give one a good idea of what the colour is like. The colours really do change quite a bit from paper to paper. I absolutely love my Ohuhu markers and love that they were so generous to you - couldn't have picked a better person to try them out Thanks Miranda.
Awesome, thank you for sharing your experience! I'm glad to hear that you enjoy using the Ohuhu markers. I've only tried the Honolulu markers in the marker sketchbook they sent me, so I'll definitely have to test the markers on different types of paper to see how similar or different the colours look when they dry. Out of curiosity, what other paper products have you tried by Ohuhu? (Also, thank you for always leaving such kind and supportive comments/replies!)
@OzzieOzzieOzzieOyOyOy That's great advice, so thank you for sharing it! I love that the colourless blender is so versatile.
What do you think of these Ohuhu Honolulu markers? Share your thoughts in the comments below! ⬇
Thank you much. I am going to try this tomorrow
Thank you! Good luck and have fun painting!
Would love more…😊
@@peggymadigan8539 Noted! Is there any specific watercolour tutorial you'd like me to create?
Thank you. Excellent example of ‘how to paint’.
@@peggymadigan8539 Thank you! I'm glad you like this tutorial.
Not very good at drawing so can I cheat and use a leaf stamp with Archival Permanent Ink?
Yes, you can! Personally, I don't consider using a leaf stamp cheating. It's actually a very clever and creative way to help you create your artwork!
Could you show how to paint cats or robins?
Good idea! Truth be told, I don't know how to paint cats or robins since animals aren't my specialty. But if I do get around to learning how to paint them, I could make some tutorials. Thanks for the suggestion!
As a beginner at watercolors & enjoy doing landscapes ty so much for these tutorials! Learning more colors you use (more difficult as a beginner) & learning to get these two color’s blended easier! Getting that mountain (misty look still practicing) then simple moon & easier way to add tad of “gouache” for water reflections & going to try to do this one 😊! On Payne’s grey (mine is PBk6) & strangely leans bit “green)? Will often use neutral tint (3 pigment mix) as Payne’s grey can look very different depending on brand! Love the soft colors then darker mountain contrast you achieved 😍. My math skills are not good as just found out about the tiny “marks” inside that 1 inch on the ruler 🫠. If my area to paint is 5”s & 1/4th (vertically) how to I measure so can know 1/3rd’s of it & mark place for the 2/3rd part? Yes, taking off the tape fun part! Tyvm & doing test sketch first 😊.
Thank you for sharing your watercolour experience! Honestly, I don't worry about measuring and dividing the paper into perfect thirds. Instead, I estimate where each third is and then I make a mark on the tape so that I know where the thirds are. Once I've done that, I begin painting. I hope you find this advice useful!
@@MirandaBalogh That’s what I finally decided as more looked at them (less time to paint) 😊!
@@appleknocker56 Awesome! I'm glad it worked out for you.
@@MirandaBaloghThink got the paper to wet (put pink in) then bottom blue. Went up to sky blue & feel covered up to much of the pink but how I learn!
@@appleknocker56 It's all a learning process. I hope you're having fun painting!
