Tow boogie
มุมมอง 726ปีที่แล้ว
This is the Tow Boogie at about 30% throttle and cruising about 13-15mph according to GPS watch. It is capable of much higher speeds only limited by the water conditions as the flat bottom surfboard bounces a lot in chop.
Dual Motor Tow Boogie with BREmote differential steering
มุมมอง 628ปีที่แล้ว
Just cause I’ve received questions from users on other forums about this I want to clarify the speed. I am only using about 30% throttle for the demonstration. This thing is fast, I’ve foiled behind it at 23-25mph according to my gps watch and still wasn’t at full throttle. It being a flat bottom surfboard it bounces a lot in any kind of choppy water. I can’t wait to try on a glassy day to see ...
Hey Jesse, cool build, just wondering if you have a foil drive or tow boogie that you would be interested in selling? Thanks
@@mauiowens because of the DIY nature of these I don’t sell them. If you’re on Maui it would be impossible to ship a battery because they are homemade and not certified. I can help you though. Head over to foil.zone and shoot me a message and we can go from there. My username is jesserosco
My VESC won’t detect correct motor parameters for these 6384s. Would you mind replying with your parameters so I can manually input them. Thank You!
I honestly don’t remember. Did you watch my video on the VESC setup? th-cam.com/video/FxBS00QykyE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=YbFg87c2MIKbl3eF
@@jessewagnon1178 yeah your motor parameters don't work either. Bummer. MY 75100 Pro ESC I think can't detect the motor parameters properly in VESC Tool.
Did you run the motor detection wizard?
@@jessewagnon1178 yes, but it gives me terrible numbers that are clearly not right and the motor just whines after.
Hi, I discovered efoling, and your project, a crazy time for makers! I studied the bremote on the forum, I am going to order one. and I would like to make the same model as you with a twin engine, do you have a description? thank you and congratulations
I posted most of the build stuff here foil.zone/t/jdubs-dual-motor-tow-boogie/19048. Foil.zone has so many awesome ideas. I highly encourage you look through the entire build and check out other peoples builds on there as well. I continue to keep changing mine up. It is an unbelievable time for us DIYer's with the available technology at the house! Feel free to reach out anytime
I have an eBike battery I want to recycle for this. Seems like this will pull me up on my 55L prone board with a progression 200.
Easily. I ride a 27L prone board with it.
@@jessewagnon1178 Do you have a log of the build on Foil Zone?

Is it on 8s? Need more power 😅
It is 8s3p. I barely ever use it, but I have read the guys running 12s2p are having even better results. If I start using it more it's definitely something I think I might modify. This is on a 56L and I am 85-90kg, but when I use it in the surf I use my 27L without any issues. Do you think it's possible to E-Foil a 27L board on 12s?
Love to see it
That’s my husband I’m so proud 😍
Was the Flipsky 70 A not cutting it? I have 70/200 that im using on my 65161 tb that seems to be okay but i want to go twin prop like yours so wondering if I should buy 2 new esc's or just get another 70/200 which would actually be cheaper although unnecessarily heavy . Whats your thoughts?
I really like these speed controllers, so much power! I can’t speak to the 70/200, I’ve never tried one, but I would think 100A per motor should be plenty.
@@jessewagnon1178 Thanks for the feedback Jesse. Another favor, would you mind sharing the step/stl files for the 63 motors with me? Would really appreciate it. 🤟
Ya. Just let me know where to send them.
I put 120A flycolor x-cross speed controllers in it. Same 6384 outrunner motors. I think this thing will drag you out of the water on a 2x4, I’m 190lbs and I wasn’t close to full throttle. I still have to add an external heatsink then I’ll try with my kite foil board.
good job, whats new from v1? My TB with a single motor struggles to get me up on a standing start with that armstrong board. I have to use a 5'2 to do a standing start..
A couple people have broken some of the copper windings without heating it up, so if in doubt put some heat on it before trying to break it apart to loosen the epoxy up
That’s dangerous as hell. Most of the motorized foils I’ve seen have a shield over the prop. They tend to bounce out of the water when you fall off. Don’t wanna catch that prop to the face.
That’s what makes it fun.
That is so good. Congratulations on an awesome build. I’ve built my own foil drive which I love and have been toying with the idea of a tow boogie. The ability to steer with the bre remote and twin motors is a game changer. Nice work 👍
Just do it! They are a blast! I built a foil drive too and they both are super fun! Anything to get more time on the water is a win!!
To replace the wires. They only come with 16awg. I replace with 12awg.
Jesse thanks for your video. I was wondering how to do this. When it comes to the replacing the wires. Is it just a case of de soldering and resoldering the new wires. There is nothing too special about it? Also, when it comes to waterproofing did you just use some epoxy on the new wires where it solders to the stator ?
Nothing special at all. I’m gonna make a video for that hopefully today. To waterproof I just soak in corrosion x.
@@jessewagnon1178 thank you.
Wire replacement. th-cam.com/video/F6SWwLVkyr8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=apkkVCuSpeDV41sl
Thank you for the video !
Thanks for posting this. I know you replace the bearings with ceramic ones but whats the purpose of taking the last part off? You gonna pot that with epoxy or something?
That's awesome. I can imagine it is very hard to get something looking so clean building this from scratch! Did you also make the foil or did you purchase that?
The board and foil are purchased. Amundson foil board and Armstrong foil.
so its steers skid steer style?
Yes, the steering works by slowing either one of the motors.
How awesome and convenient
Well done sir.🎉 have you had any capsizing events? I’m so tempted to change my single motor to a double, this is the biggest issue of my setup.
I haven’t had any capsize events since adding the steering. I only had a few capsize events before adding steering and turning too aggressively to the left.
I wonder how it'd perform with the prop lowered.
Not sure. It’s really not made to efoil, but I might drop it down for fun and see if it would. Could probably only get 20 minutes efoiling it on the small battery pack.
Love this video. I bet it cost way less than 5000 to home make. I want to make my own as well
I have about $800 in it.
Nice! Which ESC are you using?
Maytech Foil Boost VESC 100A V6 Speed Controller with Heat Fin I am going to try a Flycolor 80A ESC too. It just doesn't fit in the current box size, but I have heard people are having good results with them.
Pretty sweet
Major design flaw being when the foil lift you out of the water the prop will no longer be driving you forward as it’ll be out the water?…
It’s actually the point. It is only used to get on a wave and then once on foil the motor is out of the water so it doesn’t produce drag while you ride the wave. It is not meant to be an efoil.

I’ll get some video this weekend!
