Right said Fred! I would have been eight and at junior school here.

I would love to do a job like this. I' m a fifty year old woman with Depressionm Anxiety and OCD ( diagnosed by a psychiatrist, not myself😂). I work outside a lot doing and am not afraid of getting dirty or doing heavy lifting, Sadly, i' m realistic enough to know I wouldnt have the strength. These sorts of jobs are much better for mental health than working in shops and call centres. Full support for the young girls going into trades like joinery , blacksmiths, farming etc. I wish these opportunities had been there when I was younger, Whilst I admire his courage and skill, remember that health and safety laws didn't happen in a vaccuum. Workers demanded them because people were getting seriously injured and dying. It wasn't about cowardice, it was abou5 caring for and valuing people' s lives.. I think Fred was intelligent and his first line of defence was his brain, but it would only have taken one icy rung on that ladder for catastrophe to happen. I bet that those who were crippled in industrial accidents got the ' malingering' and ' responsible for the downfall of Britain' types of remarks. They were certainly treated badly by many of their employers and the state. I always liked what I saw of Fred, he seemed like a decent, clever, skilled guy with a passion for his job, and respect for other people. I know plenty like him and lots of youngsters with real potential. Wearing a harness wouldn't have killed him, better than having to use dutch courage as he admits so many did.
