I wonder how much difference it makes with all the weight on the vehicle instead of just putting the bolt in? I imagine if multiple companies are using the same design they are doing it for a reason?
I don’t know, but just a little bit of wallow on the track bar bolt gave me death wobble. So I wanted it to fit perfectly. My mechanic said 2mm or less is acceptable if I remember correctly.
Great video and informative. My garage charged me $259.55 for the job……….☹️ Included a gas cap and seal 🤯
Probably not a crazy amount to charge for their time! Hope it resolved your issue.
i bought one last week it is not work with my 2019 toyota highlander xle awd please c u give me some idea?
Man, that sucks. Where did you buy it? Maybe check there.
Thanks for the video. I need to do this for my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel on cylinder #2. My part is a little different but your process looks like what I need to do. My question is, is the soldering part mandatory and if so do you recommend a specific iron. Thanks in advance
I’m certainly no expert. I don’t think the soldering iron matters as much as the solder. Whatever I used wasn’t exactly right. I don’t think you have to solder. Just makes it stronger.
Curious, how long did this take you in total? I am a DIY guy as well, but only to a point.
I don’t exactly recall - maybe a few hours. Trying to film it all certainly adds to the time!!
Im hear for research. My lady heard i was taking a four day weekend and wants me to change spark plugs in her car smh. Thanks for showing me what im up against.
Enjoy your weekend! Hopefully this will only ruin 1 out of 3 days of it!
Hi, do I disconnect the fan wire connector, do I just push in above the black wire- I can't see properly in mine, thanks .
I really can’t remember. Looking back at the video, it looks like there was probably a small clip in the back of the connector.
Gracias amigo!!! Viendo tu video hice el cambio en mi jeep de la misma pieza!!! Gracias por compartir tu video con nosotros.
Glad it was helpful!
Very helpful man! Thank you!
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching!
Awesome! Worked for me thanks
You're welcome! Glad it helped
How is the driver seat? Does it sit too high or is it manageable?
It sits higher. For me, not too high. But if I were taller, it likely would be. It’s not so much the seat is higher than the front part of the seat. It’s higher. The part where your rear sits is probably not higher.
Could this also be why mine doesn’t work on high but not rest are fine
Yes, because one or more of those filaments (resistors) are burned out
Thanks very much. Great video. Watching from New Zealand.
Hey, glad it was helpful! NZ is one of those places I need to visit!! Take care!
Can you send a link to the speakers you used please!?
I think they were the only ones they had at Crutchfield compatible with the 99 XJ
Think they were these www.crutchfield.com/p_109CT521/JBL-521F.html
When you say the torque is 30 and 35, I just wanted to clarify that is ft lbs not inch lbs right?
Exactly right! Sorry I wasn’t as clear!
Great Channel Swat. We have a red 96 Country we are restoring. Yours is so mint. I can't help to notice the Virginia plates. We are in Richmond and trying to connect with fellow XJ'rs
Hey, great to meet you! I’m in Richmond, too. I sold the red one, sadly. But still have the blue 96 Country and the black 99 Limited.
Must be nice with absolutely no rust
Oh, it’s not perfect. A few spots on the floor pan and some in the seam above the passenger side gutter. But for a 330k+ mile Jeep, it’s doing great!!
I totally agree and recommend the solid lugnuts.
For sure! Did this to my 08 Liberty too.
You can by a flip sockets that have 1/2 sizes.. example 19.5mm/21.5mm
Must be how the shop does it. I just got new lug nuts.
Also, I don’t have fogs installed, would it make sense for me to do the harness upgrade then install new fog lights since the new harness has wiring for fog lights? I’ll have to get fog lights AND the switch panel from a picknpull, but would that be my best order of operations?
Install the new oem fog light harness and then install the cable upgrade.
Do you need to keep the old harness/plug old harness into new harness? Why not just out with the old, in with the new?
The upgrade works with your existing harness. It’s not a replacement. You still need the old harness to connect to the switch and to the turn signals and marker lights etc. So you have to have both
So what’s the cost vs main benefits of doing this? Great video
I was hoping it would help with the headlights some (which it didn’t). But I feel like it’s starting and running better with it. If you have no real issue, there is no need to do it. As you can see on mine, everything’s just a little old and tired, so replacing 27 year old parts with 337k miles is worth doing for the most part.
Wow, you're lucky yours came off so clean.
It wasn’t terrible. Not something I want to do all the time though!
Hey Swat! I am doing the same move on my 1996 jeep 2dr sport. I found wire harness from a similar year at the JY. I tested all the lights on my rig. I also installed the switch. I also have the relays. Now the turn signals, side markers and headlights work with the JY harness, but when I used a circuit tester on the fog light wires, no signal. I have not acquired the fog lights yet. also the Fog light switch doesn't illuminate, I did put led bulbs in there. Are there fuses that need to be placed in the PDM under the hood or the under the dash to complete addition?
I think there’s a fuse in the panel under the drivers side dash. Check that out and report back!
Hit the key several times, think it's stuck between on and off, and that might be why it's not working. Does anyone know what to do now. My windows are stuck down. Do I need to replace the entire ignition?
Hope you got it sorted. I was lucky to be able to get this one out!
Super excited to watch you work on this beauty!
Thanks! I’m excited too! Pretty fun to drive around
What socket size do I need to remove the oil drain plug?
Luckily I made cheat sheets for each vehicle. Just checked. It’s 13mm.
You make it so simple. Can't believe it was so straightforward. Would love to have that here in the UK. Lovely
I got super lucky. Probably because I drove it a little over 2 years ago, so I know things were working
Long live the XJ 🎉😊
For sure!!
What plug wires did you use?
I’ll have to look. Think maybe just ones I got on Amazon
Great job 👏🏽
Thank you!
put an ice cube underneath to keep it in the up position
Interesting idea. Though it would have to be small for the button to still be able to fit on over it
Muy buena información mil gracias
¡De nada!
I have a problem with mine i got an 88 jeep Cherokee 4wd 6cy 4.0l xj when i turn the key it cranks but once i let go of the key it just shuts off
Crank but no start could be a lot of things. Hope you can figure it out!
Small tip guys, park jeep in a way that front is slightly higher or use jack stands then coolant will not pour out of engine when removing thermostat
Great tip! This was actually parked with front higher than rear in my sloped driveway
where did you find that xj? its tooooo clean to be from the northeast.
This was a neighbor’s in Richmond, VA. First sold in MD for about 2 years, then to VA for the rest of that time. Last I heard, it was in the Northeast
Great video - thank you
You’re welcome!! Thanks for watching
Recently, I just got my cover. Any updates on the seat? This video is very helpful.
As time has gone on, the foam has filled out the leather, so it looks better and better! Now the passenger seat is going. Hope I can find one for that, now!
Are these shocks and springs for a lift or are they original measurements? Sorry for my English i'm Dutch haha
These are for an “Upcountry” Suspension, which is about 1” greater than standard. But when springs are old and tired, new springs will give it quite a lift!!
Replace radiator 100 bucks Get a bigger clutch fan. Possibly replace e fan and check if it works.
The E-Fan wasn’t working. Replaced that. Radiator is fine. Clutch fan is fine. Also did a good system flush which it needed. It’s been running strong since this video
How are the Monroe shocks with offroading? Planning to put them under my cherokee. Good vid!👌🏽
My son drives it to work and school, so I’m not sure too much off-roading gets done! Thanks for watching!
Just in case James Benedict does not respond to the paragraph I wrote on "1988-1996 Jeep Cherokee Radio Repair", I would like your input on fixing some of these radios I`ve got stacked up halfway to the ceiling. Repairs from inoperative tape players, left or right channel loss to low volume. You can just reply to my comment here.
I had never seen his video, so just checked it out! Man, that’s way above my level. I think what you’re doing with the radios is great. You really need to get in touch with Jeremey - the guy who sold the kit in my video. He’s an expert on these radios, but I understand he had “retired” or severely cut back due to health concerns. Maybe you could pick up the slack. If so, keep me posted! I’ve got 3 or 4 radios for the 96 (sold one of my two 1996s, but had extra radios just in case and for parts and so as not to molest the original radio with the Bluetooth set up). All the best!! Aux Cord DIY Kit from Jeremey’s Radio Emporium: radio-emporium.com/
I’ve just ruined my front break lines , your videos a huge help, could you send me the link to where you got your replacements
Sure-I should put the link in the description. They are from Fine Lines (SS Lines). www.sstubes.com/products/cbk0002ss-95-01-jeep-cherokee-non-abs-complete-brake-line-kit-stainless
Hey man. Hope you doing well. This happened to me today and also the key cant be pulled out. Where did you get that new socket and is it valid with all the jeep keys?. Mine is a 4 door 2000 jeep cherokee XJ limited 2.5 Turbo diesel
Got this at the parts store, and it should fit any Jeep with this type of ignition lock cylinder. I wouldn’t think type of engine would matter. www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c/dorman-oe-solutions/ignition---tune-up/ignition-lock-cylinder/7f728fbed9c8/dorman-oe-solutions-chrome-ignition-lock-cylinder/doe0/924784
Put the can in a bowl of hot water and it will flash off and your done in no time.
Wow! Never seen thought of that
Nice. Is the seat color Spice?
Correct! Original and the replacement color is Spice
Great video. I struggled with the white molex connector for a while, watched 4 other videos to find a better way. Use channel-locks or vise grips to apply gentle pressure to the center of the molex connector. Too much pressure can deform the plastic. Make sure not to press on the female side of the connector. If you are in the right spot gentle pressure will remove the connector. I was at this for almost an hour then once I found this method it was out really simply.
Great tip! Would’ve been nice to know when I was trying! Thanks for the info!!
92 YJ here, had same exact issue. Bought a new starter but still not cracking, what else do you think it would be?
You can test the starter as I showed here to see if that was the issue. I’m no expert, but CPS, NSS (on automatics), and ignition switch are all culprits.
@@swatscorner i tested as you showed on the video. When ignition is on I get no readings but I did tried to bridge the starter with a screw driver and it turned on. Now i’m not sure if it’s a wire issue or the starter
Doesn’t sound like starter if it worked by jumping it. I’d have to think more about that. Ignition switch maybe?
Thanks for making this video, looks straight forward to replace.
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching!
Great video thanks
No problem - you’re welcome!
