Tuning a Holley Carburetor for fuel economy
I tune My daily driver 850 CFM Holly double pumper for better fuel economy..... on a Big Block Chevy. Even though good gas milage on my setup is a dream I am going to try because gas is 5 dollars a gallon.

How much?
You didn't even show anything? Delete this video. It's worthless.
Why didnt you show yourself taking off the pin? Weird…
Does it matter of the year for the c6 I’m looking at a 2012 c6 for my tbss I wanted to know if it’ll fit
What size tires you running fam
Did you have to do anything with the Ac? I keep reading it needs a bracket
Smfh
What year C6?
Where the cut outs from bro
What’s done to the tbs sounds amazing
you dont need to line up pump with distributor just put it at top dead center set your rotor facing number 1 spark plug and bump engine over and it'll drop in. way faster and easier than messing around with a screw driver trying to align slot with bottom of distributor. just a little tip i used to do it that way too eff all that.
Look into dual stage power valve if tuning for fuel economy. Also smaller carb would help 750cfm. Just my 2 cents
I fixed the problem by adding 7qts of oil.
Could you swap the pan? While the motor is dropped in? I notice a lot of vids drop the motor in with the pan installed
What size tires are you running up front?
Pitiful soundtrack.... You must be confused.
I tried to watch it, but that ghetto bullshit music just pissed me off. You should figure out your target audience is. Probably a bunch of old dudes that ain't into your gangsta bullshit. Good luck with that. I was gonna sub, but fuck that shit.
Lol😂 it was almost a good video.
Hello, when you run it, do you set it to 1 and then Drive?
Runnintg a 1992 chev.K150 (284 K miles ),700 O/D trans ,373 gears TBI. Michelin Defender tires, was getting 13.5 mpg mostly highway. Changed most sensors, MSD ign. system ,8m.m.m wires,NKG plugs. Jumped 7 mpg. Gunna port the heads ( swirl ) and intake and shorty headers and pipes next..
What modifications did you have to do to make the big block fit, or is it a direct fit? Doing the same to my 85 gmc
It's a direct fit
Wrong Intake.
A smaller carb like a 750 would be better for that engine.
Great Video! Yeah, fuck that though. No chance I'm going for a carb is 14 it the upper end. I think I can get double that. tuinning tf out of an efi setup.
Nice old truck you have, keep that beast running as long as you can! I am running 61 jets on my new Holley 2bbl street avenger carb on my slant 6 with what I think is a stock 4.5 power valve. I am currently in that same boat as you were with my straight 6 engine where I am getting about 7.5-9mpg combined with 15 degrees initial timing at 750ish idle trying to figure out which jet direction to go. I Don’t have an a/f gauge in cab though I have thought about installing one (after I get a bung installed on my exhaust). I do my engine tuning with a vacuum gauge for the time being.
Timing is critical. I run a 850hp dp on my 82 notch. 16 dgrs intial timing. 34all in at 1800 rpm. No vac advance. This is a roller cam 351w with c4 and 410 rear. I get 16 mpg. When u put light springs in distributor. Vac advance isn’t needed. If u watch a stock dizzys timing curve. Usually dont start advancing until 3500 rpm. Total with stock springs sometimes dont even come all in or at like 6000 rpms. So if your cruising rpms are mid range. That vac can and stock springs are hurting performance and mileage. Makes u wonder about emissions because those stock tunes were gas hogs Vac cans add 10-15 extra degrees at cruise. Stock timing on alot of these are low for initial. At best with a stock timing sweep even on some of best “factory “ tunes is like 25 dgrs at cruise with vac can under load. So just mechanical timing with just light springs throwing out your total is actually effective if u do this. Disconnect vac can and cap it I run 89 pump gas on mine no problems. Im. Going to go party she gets 93. I’ve also seen a vac can rob 50ft lbs on dyno going wot. Watching it with timing light. Yeah it lets go when vac drops. But it’s not instant. 80s seems very rich for a big motor like that that its the stock timing curve that’s robbing mileage. U swap to light springs. Ditch vac advance and u can run it alot leaner and not worry about detonating. carb should be almost stock jets. My 850 wants 71 primary 84 secondary. Pink came. 73-33 on airbleeds. 3/4 turns all 4 corners 15 inches of vacuum. 6.5 4 hole pv. Check out my posted car video’s. No choke dont smell like gas and fires right up in 30 dgrs. Id suggest on that big motor. Put a very very light spring and medium to light spring in that dizzy. And a bushing to tailor your timing to around 14-16 intial with 34 dgrs all in if stock compression. 30 to start if 10-1 or so modify and try that. Im at 4k rpms on highway cruising with a 3speed auto and 410 rear. Ps. Light dizzy springs and running a vac can is bad juju. To much timing at cruise. If their was a way to tune those vac cans to only add 5 at cruise with the light spring set up. I think it would be very efficient. But they add 10-15 to much if u at all in on cruise.
I like your idea of recurving the dizzy with lighter springs, would like to try that but don’t know where to get the springs from for my slant 6 dizzy and it doesn’t help the shops that do dizzy recurving is few and far between these days.
They do make adjustable vacuum advance kits. Accel makes an adjustable canister that you use an Allen key to dial in the advance you want, and crane makes a limiter plate to stop advance. I use the Accel kit and have my vacuum advance at 10* with 18* initial and 32 total all in by 2800. It gives me a highway cruise advance @3000rpm of 42* and I’m getting 16mpg with no pinging on a 9.4:1 455 with 223*/230* of camshaft duration @.050.
Why post a video if you didn't show how It was done?
Learned absolutely nothing
What size rims?
I notice texas plates whats yalls place called?
That New muffler made a big difference! Electric cut out is sweet🥰👍🏿 Pretty big cam?
Wow
Good job man. Someone already asked about the headers but what other mods did you have to do to it? Will a BBC drop in using a sbc motor mount? Will it bolt up direct to a TH 350 trans?
You're half right. On cars gotta cut or remove heater box, maybe a different brake booster too. Depends on your setup if you got short valve covers you might be able to keep same booster. Heater box delete aint nothing find some metal fasten screws and a sheet big enough to cover holes. No it wont bolt up to a small block transmission. Save yourself the headache and go for 700r4. Easy and will always be parts. Motor mounts will fit engine wise but will be at an angle.
Sounds bad ass, what cam you’re using?
I have an ignition key that also opens doors. Went and got new keys cut from GM ignition blanks and they work in ignition but not on doors. If I got door blanks and had them cut off the same ignition original would they work?
whats the muffler part number? it sounds good
What cam are you running
Weres the smoke ? Sendit !
Could you get a cross member from a 2wd trailblazer or envoy and put it in here without drilling?
😥 ρɾσɱσʂɱ
What headers did you use? Any mods had to be made?
I used a cheat set of 2wd long tube headers from JEGS and welded a set of v-band clamps to the header. No mods necessary for fitment.
Where did you buy your badges
They were already on it when we got it.
Which stud kit did you use for the roller rockers? I've been having people tell me you can't use mark iv studs on the gen vis. Wondering what part number you used
I used Comp Cams #4514-16 for the stud kit on my roller rockers. in junction with Comp's high energy Die Cast Aluminum Roller Rocker Arms

Where does the oil dip stick goes
On a LS engine the Dipstick goes into the Block so it goes in the stock location in this application.
Nice., sounds good. I think I'd go nuts not having a dual 3" to 4" y-pipe though =P
It has been driving us nuts to be honest. it runs and sounds good, but we will definitely be making a dual 3" to 4" y-pipe as soon as we have time.
@@senditmafia8232 haha yes sir i know how it is for sure. Nice system though for sure. I want to do the same thing... but i might add one more resonator, this is supposed to be the car I'm not modifying haha
@@TurboV8boi Hahaha, That's always how it goes but everything gets modified eventually!
i need to do this to my 408 tbss lol. neighbors hate my mornings.
