Beniamino Gigli sang a song for his collection of Italian songs on side four of his Cavalleria Rusticana recording. The song was O Grande Somno Dio O Great Almighty God. It is the most moving Italian song I have ever heard. I want it played at my funeral.

Eine der besten Interpretationen der Partie, die die Faszination von Beniamino Gigli als Caruso-Nachfolger begreiflich macht. Zu dieser Überzeugung trägt der Umstand bei, dass Gigli auf larmoyante Schluchzer verzichtete, mit denen er sich später ins Abseits stellte. Großes darstellerisches Vermögen blieb im leider versagt. Aber seine Erinnerung als großer Sänger in seiner besten Form hat bleibenswerten Kunstgenuss. .

There are various recorded versions of this aria, but for me, this is by far the best I've heard. Gigli's combined lovely tenor, his enormous skills and passion all make for a formidable interpretation of Giordano's piece.

Debbo confessare che, benché riconosca naturalmente il suo grande valore, Gigli non é tra i miei tenori preferiti (questione di gusti personali) peraltro in questa esecuzione é assolutamente fantastico !!

Wow...I hear a very Caruso type of sound here. I know it is said that Gigli was a lyric tenor but there are times when his voice sounds immense. What a voice...and Technique

Wow...that is some brilliant singing! I read a quote from Gigli and he said he didn't like to teaching voice because he barely covered and didn't want to risk the chance of harming another singer's voice by teaching a method of almost not covering the top notes. He had an amazing voice!
