My name is Yoshiko Goto. I'm an artisan of Kaketsugi.
My shop is called kaketsugi-koubou ORIWAGIKEN. It is in Minokamo City, Gifu-ken Japan.
What is Kaketsugi?
It is a technique to restore damaged clothing. By recreating the structure of a fabric we can make holes or tears disappear. If you have a beloved piece of clothing that carries many memories and your tailor said he can't fix it, let us try. Many customers have been amazed.
Maybe it is an antique kimono with a bad tear. Maybe it is a sweatshirt that ripped at the seams. Maybe it is an expensive suit with a cigarette burn. Whatever it is, we will try our best. We begin where others give up!
I learned Kaketsugi from my father, the great artisan, Tessyu Kataoka.
We have been featured in Asahi Shimbum and on television news. In May, 2019, I travelled to New York City to demonstrate at The Japan Society. Please watch the video of my demonstration on TH-cam.
We look forward to hearing from you.

This movie is update of NY japan society. Tuesday, May 21.2019 www.oriwa.net/ The following articles were released by the NY Japan Society. Born in Japan’s Gifu Prefecture, Yoshiko Goto began studying kaketsugi techniques under her father, the kaketsugi craftsman Tesshu Kataoka, when she was in high school. She has been practicing officially as a kaketsugi artisan...
Astonishing skill.
Super!
I understand how it´s done, I can learn the technique, no doubt, but the very invisibility of it is not only an art, but certainly a magical deed of alchemy.
AWESOME!!❤
Bravissima molto chiaro
I have a pair of suit pants that this happened to. I would nearly pay anything to have them repaired. How can I send them to you?
Wow!!!!!
Watched this so many times. So therapeutic. Being a person who enioys craft, and also one who doesn't like to throw stuff away, this restoration technique brings me much joy.
Wow, nice work.
incredible !. People are awesome !
Nice job, but painstakingly tedious. Not for everyone to be sure. That jacket must have cost a lot of money in order to justify this amount of time.
Thanks for the gorgeous video, I have the same problem but I have no idea wich part I should cut first for got the pice
Quelle patience! Résultat impécable! Bravo
Wonderful 👍

I don't understand the last part. All the thread ends on the surface are gone. Where did they go? Does she pull them inside without undo the whole thing? Can someone explain it to me? Thanks.

انت فنانه حقا.you are an artist
super belle. J'adore l'expertise. je veux l'apprendre!!!
WITCHCRAFT!
Wow this is incredible! My question is where do you get the scrap of fabric to use for the repair if the garment didn’t come with the extra patch?
Incredibly well done...
U're wonderful! Thanks.
Excelente trabajo 👍
Kaketsugi broken down means Kaket = casket, and Sugi = cedar. Cedar casket from my Google Translate. Maybe something do to with aligning the grain of the wood? This is such exquisite needlework, and so much part of the hand made excellence culture of Japan, from woodworking to food preparation. Just sublime. You represent the finest in human craftsmanship. Thank you for keeping that alive. Domo Arigato, Tailor-san.
Bravo 🤩
Absolutely stunning! I can’t even see where it was repaired! I am going to have to practice this technique!
